I guess they figure people will more easily associate Hunchback with Disney than they would Aida, seeing as how it was already made into a movie somewhat tailored for children.

Actually, it did very well in Germany. Hence why they're considering bringing it to Broadway, they would never even think about bringing it to New York if it had flopped in Berlin.

Hmm, it was supposed to run ten years, then they shortened to five years and closed it in less zhen three years. It never played outside Berlin, in no other german town. I was there, 15 times or so, I loved it and i really miss it, but I think I'm right by saying, it flopped.

Or at least: It didn't fulfill the expectations of the producers.

@Gerion81 I don't think it flopped exaclty. As far as I know, Hunchback fans adore it's darker edge (I know I do. It's surprising how far they went with the story). I think they're just trying to work out the kinks in pontentionally censoring the plot...again, even though the nw ending was recieved well so far as I know...

Ja, Steve Barton sollte eigentlich Richter Frollo spielen, sprang aber ca. 6 Wochen vor der Premiere ab und Norbert Lamla wurde kurzfristig für diese Rolle gewonnen.
