this video is on fast forward.no pilot in his entire mind would have this tremendous speed on final.at the normal video speed, the maneuver doesn't seem so dangerous.i think it was fast forwarded just for the effect, to amplify the 'fear' of the viewer.it's a perfectly non precision approach, this airport doesn't even have an ILS system for I can't see the localizer and the glideslope station
@rockonmario It's not on fast forward. I've landed on that runway and been on the road below when flights have landed. It's a small plane in close proximity to the ground, of course it looks fast.
@sagereid I'm flying a D class aircraft which has the Vref between 121-140k and I know how the terrain and speed looks like from the cockpit.that aeroplane must be a C or less so there's no way in this world that tiny aircraft (Bombardier or whatever it is) will have that Vref speed.the greater the aircraft the bigger the Vref.not even an A380 would have the stall speed*1.3 that big.if you still say I'm talking nonsense, take a look at 0:52 at the PIC's hand.fastforward all day!
most certainly NOT an ILS landing. all looked Ok, until that "overshoot" of Turn to final, due to a very short and somewhat 'hairy' Left Base Turn, then, he floats far left of centerline, in an Overcorrect, banking dangerously to save his already botched Oh-so-NOT-'stabilzed' approach. No Bueno here. Risky and a Go Around should have been the call..........guessing this kind of flying for this crew won't last long.......
Naw, wasn't a nice approach. "Blew through" the final approach path; however, did correct and get back to the centerline. Would have been a problem if there had been any wind to speak of. Got off really "lucky"!!! I'm sure the person, who was making the approach, was saying: "Yesssssss", as he was able to straighten the plane out before landing. Have some luck, once in awhile.
def wouldn't call this good airmanship. The turn to final was late and resulted in an overshoot then a correcting turn very then he overshot again! Def should have called a G/A on that one.
Minimums is nothing. Minimums is a callout that tells us when we reach the point of Decision. When we hear the word minimums we should have the runway (or lights) in sight.
@supernaturalguy2009 Minimums have nothing to do with the aircraft but to do with the approach. There are three main approach types, ILS-I, ILS-II and ILS-III. They all have different minimums in each sub catagory.
over egged the turn on to final somewhat and hardly that stable on short finals but smoked it in the end nicely.. messy piloting skills followed by great piloting skils all in all a very intersting vid to watch
brilliant landing, center line and everything. reminds me of my first solo when i got turned in in front of a fighter jet... what kind of plane is this btw
The Saab is a plane you learn to love in situations like that. Reminds me of the ILS circle to land at Boston Logan that took you over the Charles River.
This has to be one of the most dangerous approaches in the world. One little mistake and you are dead. I don't know why some airports are done without the minimum safe regulations.
This is not an ILS approach. At best its a NPA(non-precision) and looks like its offset by more then 30 degrees so it prolly is a circling approach. I give to 2 to 1 that its either an VOR or NDB with circling only minimums. I am surprised by how "officially" unstabilized he was but that looked VERY fun.
I agree 110% It is a NPA. Definitely not an ILS because the plane is clearly not captured in a proper glide slope path. Almost looks like a VOR-A approach.Cool video though!
looks like a great place to get away from it all for a while... nice video!

Pretty standard landing at Sumburgh when approaching from the south. I always look around for 'newbies' on the plane when coming in that way

Definately not an ILS approach as he wasn't even alligned to the runway. ILS requires to intercept the localizer....which is not the case here

VFR, unstablized and landed fast. What's not to like about that!

I'm not a pilot but that looked kinda dangerous to me.

You don't want to be rolling the wings so much at such a low altitude. Not a good landing and quite risky actually.

you really can see this isn't an ils approach

Very nice approach though, be it Visual, VOR, NDB or Circling. (don't see enough of the set up for the approach to narrow it down)
