If you get radiation poisoning you drink potassium iodide. Elemental iodine is a halogen and inhaling a gaseous halogen is always bad. That's like saying that inhaling chlorine gas is a good idea because table salt is nontoxic.
@Evaldas521 The only reason you would drink an iodine based compound is because during a nuclear bomb explosion, radioactive iodine is produced which can be inhaled and ingested. Iodine compounds are concentrated in the thyroid gland. If you ingest isotopic iodine, you get thyroid and other related cancers. Taking non-isotopic iodine compounds saturates the thyroid so that it can no longer take any iodine even if it is in its isotopic form
You can still die from general radiation exposure though
No, but iodine does stain quite a bit. That's why you've gotta where gloves and an apron, if it gets on your clothes or even your skin, well, it's not coming off.
