If your a new/experinced user who wants the features of like face tracking subject tracking get the D5000 same sensor as D90 expect no built afs motor, but that isn't needed if you don't have old nikon lens and for the canon it feels like a cheap toy. I hope this helps
@meesers Between Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS 500D, I will choose the Canon. It is a semi-professional camera, and I think the only pro the Nikon has is the flip screen. Though that is pretty cool, but meh, I think the profits of the Canon overweigh. Also, I trust Canon, but I've never really used a Nikon. I don't know anything about d90.
D5000 is already a failed dream... at first I thought it had the same sensor as the D90. After seeing samples, I can conclude that its high ISO capabilities can't hold a candle to the D90.
As footage goes that seems pretty disappointing. The shutter speed is too short. Creating very jerky motion. And the rolling shutter effect is pretty bad.
From a film-making point of view, the GH1 looks more promising.
It is lower priced for a reason. If you read the specs you´ll see it´s more of a renewed D60...as far as features go, it has some important things that it lacks, compared to a d90/d300...
Nikon, excellent new camera, Love the articulating LCD screen, wish it was opening to the left rather than down, Very useful HD video capture integration. Are you guys planning on developing a mirror-prism free technology like the micro four thirds in the near future? to make the overall size of the cam + lens smaller?

I think they won't improve the video recording thingy until the d400 comes out. maybe 1080p with autofocus then.

And the wobble is still there. For those who don' know is called: Jello Vision!

Its a dslr camera not a camcorder the video part is a extra. Plus you can always fix this in simple video editing software like Imovie.
kpierce118 2 years ago
its called Rolling Shutter and no, you cannot fix it on imovie, its a very complicated error to fix.
tmpst787 2 years ago
couldn't u just sort of image stabilize it in imovie or whatever ur using and have most of the problem corrected

It is the D90 with a new number, funky LCD and lower price. It is mind boggling how Nikon can do such a rehash trick!

The D90 have more important specs : a much better viewfinder , internal AF motor, top lcd, better grip, front dial wheel and more ...
