  • @2975jessica May God bless his soul and may he rest in peace. Peace be with you.

  • @2975jessica Every time I read your comment it makes me cry, it's so sad.....and yet happy at the same time. I know you'll meet your husband again one day and he'll greet you at the pearly gates with open arms. You'll see him on the horizon, while the white gulls call. Now he is only across the sea, your ships will come carry you home to him one day. Don't ever let your hope fade, because the shadows ARE falling. You'll find your white shores. and you'll be there in your husband's arms.

  • I always thought that this was a guy singing... but still ITS A GREAT SONG !!! :D

  • @ThEdReAmEr1694 lol me too the first time I heard it

  • I know why the white gulls call. We all will go Into the West someday. The grey ships will carry us home.

  • This song brings peace to everybody who lost a loved one..and also makes you easier to accept the fact that you will also die one day..thank you Annie Lennox , thank you very much..:')

  • i cried listening to it after watching the film

i cried listening to it here.

and propably i'll ever cry listening to it.

it's touching. wonderful. brilliant. sweet. everything to love a song.

and the films are the best ever made. there won't be any better. never.

  • you know there is something special about a song when you get goosebumps listening to it.

  • @hendy1011 Constant goosebumps every 5 seconds or so. @___@

  • I cant even express my love for this film. The Return of the King is my favorite, it is just so amazing and beautiful, the emotions and stakes are so high, and I love how the story dosnt really end, its another journey for all of them.

  • So touching. I have tears in my eyes, everey time i hear this song.

  • @AlfredoMaia so true

  • What an amazing song to end the LotR trilogy.

  • this is a beautiful song. I listen to it everyday. This song should play in my funeral one day after I die.

  • We will all Go West one night...one day...just wait for that Great Voyage!

  • so epic...

  • this song has defiantly deserved its winning oscar!

  • 40* people went Into the East

  • I can't help shedding a tear every time I hear this song... It means so much for me, and it always will. While listening to it, I almost feel like I'm dying... a feeling so terrifying, yet so beautiful... If we all could just go into the west one day...

  • ah love it but, love it even love it more in an orchestral version. even more with the viola as the lead instrument.

  • This song almost makes me feel that it's such a pitty Sauron was defeated... it meant the end of a beautiful epic. D.R.

  • I had to make one of the hardest choises of my life today. Watched LOTR to cheer me up.

  • well... when i was little i always went to San Alfonso del mar, that place looks like minas tirith, and now when i remember all that times watching the movies on my car or with my lotr toys i really want to cry.....now im going to be a soccer player so if you see a guy who is celebrating with a gollum t shirt THATS ME :')

  • This is what i'm Tolkien about!

  • The thought of this being played at my funeral makes me want to die sooner. So amazing.

  • this is one of the reasons i always stay till the very end of a films credits even if i'm the only one left in the whole cinema

  • @homophie55 HIs works have many similar things with christianity, I'd agree. As much as most religions on our planet have similar themes of good & evil. If Tolkien's fantasy universe was so strongly based in christianity then how do you account for the presence of multiple gods, which is mentioned in the Silmarillion & other works. Tolkien was a very learned man. It JUST MAY be possible that he took his creative license in another direction than the faith he may have lived by.

  • @Baroshi Hey, but I have to make one correction. The "Gods of the West" as men called them, weren't actually gods but were Angels who had come to protect and cultivate the world from Morgoth (the fallen angel and "Satan" of the story). It makes it clear that there is one God. It also makes a divide that only God can create real, living and breathing sentient creatures.

  • I'm playing this at my funeral. no question about it.

  • @homophie55 I know the lord of the rings have any christian themes, but this is definitely not one of them. It is about the ships to Valinor, and the end of the lord of the rings.

  • Debating about how much Tolkien's faith influenced LotR is pointless, since it doesn't actually make any difference.

Analyzing this song in the same way is also pointless, since it doesn't change anything. This song was made partly in memory of Cameron Duncan, that's what we know, and it's the only thing that matters.

  • @homophie55 I think it is rather ethnocentric to claim lotr as having christian themes. It includes gods, beings with eternal life, mortals, and basic good vs. evil themes.

  • My dear friends, what "moves" u in your hearts when you hear this song it's, very simply, the Promise... the Promise from above that it's the base of Christian faith - the faith of Tolkien and of all his friends: "Don’t say,/ We have come now to the end./ White shores are calling./ You and I will meet again./And you’ll be here in my arms,/Just sleeping."

Follow that path, to anything it will lead you...

  • @YouPrete trololoolololol, twisting this awesome lyrics into christian message going on here.

This song is literally about a land in the west. Dipshit. It's called Valinor(Ammand), land of the Valar.

  • 38 people went Into the East

  • @HaF7110 the number is getting bigger day by day xD

  • @HaF7110 Next 2 from Mordor joined :]

  • @HaF7110 after Diablo!

  • @TheMajinTrunks I get it!

  • @HaF7110 and 2 went north.

  • when i first heard this song when i first watched the film in the cinema, i was only about 8. one of my most vivid memories was sitting in the cinema even after everyone else had gone, and refusing to leave until this song had finished, and crying throughout this song

  • @me4evaful

I was in my 40's and a grown man and had the same reaction. I stayed in my seat crying until the very last note.

  • Some music simply makes men long for heaven, and grants them a foretaste of it.

  • Possibly the only time in my life I stayed in the theater to watch the credits was to hear this song. :') The ending to the trilogy was one of the best endings to anything ever!

  • @ReyaitheShadowWolf I've watched the trilogy again last week. I've watched it countless times, it always makes mme weep like a child. This song in particular, it's enough to hear just a few notes and i'm off. It just makes me realise so much, and realise that i have a magical life to be introduced to the world of tolkien. His books will always be my no1.

  • 38 people have no ears.

  • this is the definition of true music...

  • No Word´s can describe the feeling of this song.Legen......dary!

  • the first time i heard this i broke down. im even worse, now welling up after "lay down". its beautiful

  • :D

  • This is being played at my funeral....there will be tears.....and hobbits, many hobbits

  • @nibonator How can you hear it when you dead o.0

  • @nibonator I am so loving this :D

  • @nibonator agree completely

  • @nibonator This was played at my mates funeral last week. There were many tears.

  • @chriscorless16 And this was played at my dads. There were few tears, from me at least.

  • @chriscorless16 I'm going to have it play at mine now. Thank you :) and dont worry you and your mate will meet again on the white shores

  • I wanted to have this song when my mother died but was denied by my sisters. My daughter and I set off to drive to the funeral, crying while listening the beautiful music and perfect words.

  • the hobbit's going to come out soon... hope there's gunna be as much splender

  • 38 people went into the east and died in Mordor

  • In 16 days I am going the watch the Lord of the Rings Blu-ray Extended Edition Marathon!

  • @guidoroelandtguido I started yesterday when I finished ''The Two Towers'' and in an hour or so I'm going to watch ''The Fellowship of the Ring'' and then ''The Return of the King'' tonight :DDD

  • If you've read the Simarillion these lyrics take on a whole new level AMAZING

  • my two sisters and I watched all three of the Lord of the Rings on Christmas Holidays!!!GREAT!!!!

  • epic :)

  • awesome :)

  • oh man. I am fighting a losing battle to hold back the tears. This song is so beautiful, and exquisitely transforms the spirit of the tale into lyric and melody.

  • i just LOVE lord of the rings! So damn amazing! and the music in the movies is just so BIG! (if i explain it with one word)

  • I can listen to this song over and over again. Annie Lennox did a phenomenal job! All three of the Lord of the Ring movies are awesome. I have the extended editions and the regular versions of the movies and all I watch is the extended editions. Twelve hours of pure pleasure.

  • Such a great song, Lord of the Rings is the greatest <3

  • L oad

    O f

    T remendous

    R emarkableness

  • Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie and always after the third I have to listen to part of this song. It is wonderful ♥

  • Lord of the Rings embodied many real life experiences and struggle. Struggle of men fighting and greed over the material world, and how friendship can help people pull through the endeavor that they pursue. Tolkein is a genius making a beautiful story of life in fiction.

  • YUP, need to watch the movies AGAIN. a weekend marathon shall begin!!

  • Thank you Annie Lennox!

  • Such a beautiful song. I want this to be played at my funeral.

  • i am singing this song in chorus and after i read the sheet music i just had to see it professionally

  • I really think that music and art is the very highest essence of the human mind and creation.. man, I just dont have words.. Thank you so much; Annie lennox, Howard Shore, Peter Jackson and Tolkien.!

  • @hcpiano also cameron duncan, the beautiful teenage boy who was the inspiration for the song! he was an aspiring filmaker who befriended Fran and Pete and unfortunately died of cancer :(

  • @moonshoespotter1712 wow! I didnt know that.It just gices the song een more depth. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • @hcpiano that's what i'm tolkien about!

  • This is about the only song I've heard that makes me tear.

  • Happy Birthday, J.R.R. Tolkien!

  • I'd like to see you make a masterpiece like the LOTR Trilology. Jackson AND Tolkien made things you could only dream of making. So how about respecting others work instead of complaining about it?

  • I sing this song to my girlfriend and play it on my ipod when I watch her sleep. You know you met the right one when this song just makes moments like this perfect. I love her and can't live without her. She's everything I ever wanted. This song and her is the only combination that has made me cry in happiness. No amounts of I Love You can compare to how I feel.

  • @TragedySoldier so sweet....

  • Oh believe me i know, i read the books, and when haldir died, it pissed me off. And the shelob thing in the 3rd confused me. But in todays society, where most movies are completely warped from the books, a few flaws is okay to me. I mean, its already a 3 hour movie, so obviously content has to be cut. But in my opinion, the movies are still some of the best film adaptations of books i have ever seen.

  • It really makes me sad how some people think that Lord of The Rings is just a stupid war movie. The trilogy is easily one of the greatest movie trilogies ever made, and one of the few movies that, in my opinion, are actually better than the book. I remember hearing this song on the DVD when i was younger, and it actually made me cry. Still does. I cant wait for the Hobbit

  • @Redsunrise86 you lost all cred at the better at book part...

  • @brigeboy95 Well thats just my opinion. Yours may be different, and i know the books have more content, like all books do. But For my personal taste, the books just moved a little too slow in areas and i never felt the emotion that i did while watching the movies.

  • @Redsunrise86 just imo jackson story will never surpass the book version

  • @Redsunrise86 to be truthl its just because jacksons version does not make sense the wood elves where NOT at helms deep they where fighting at the northern front no way they could have got around mirkwoods blockade same goes for the dead army attacking minis tirith they only attacked at the port which the black ships where attacking aragorn job was to get that army because it could defeat the blockadeing ships. just the flaws i see in the movies

  • This song sends chills up my spine and gives me goosebumps, truly magnificent.

  • Annie Lennox, wow girl, have some pitty on other singers. they will all go in to deep depressions after this one.

  • Thumbs up if you miss The Lord Of The Rings 1,2,and 3

  • When I die, i want this song for my funeral...

  • @mniyad Same here, I want my friends to remember me when they hear it.

  • @mniyad I cried so hard on this song today on the funeral of my uncle :'(

  • This song's meaning explains that death musn't be feared but it is merely a gateway to white shores where you can walk in peace while listening to seagulls calling and waves rolling...

  • My girlfriend doesn't understand why I well up every time I hear this. She's not a fan of LotR so I don't think she ever will. Definitely her loss...

  • @cryptotom This song gets me every time. I sometimes think I am to emotinal, but as you say, "Its other peoples loss" :)

  • @cryptotom get a new girlfriend then.... lol

  • @cryptotom Dump her. If she doesn't well up at Theoden's speech right at the Golden Charge or Aragorn's speech before The Black Gate or when Theoden just breaks down before the tomb of his son, she's heartless!

  • @Gilgamesh417 I am a huge fan of LOTR but do you mean the speech in ROTK when Theoden starts speaking to the soldiers before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields?? 'Cause that speech was laughable xDD

  • @TheMonkeydluffy455 I disagree, I loved that speech! :)

  • @cryptotom and she is still your girlfriend?O.o

  • @petertel123 Good question ! D:

  • @cryptotom Why the fuck does she have to be a fan? I literally feel like a child again when I hear this. She has no soul. kill her.

  • @cryptotom Dump her!

  • @cryptotom Really? That's a bit difficult to believe, I mean has she actually heard the song?

  • @cryptotom I hope you mean your ex-girlfriend.

  • @cryptotom this is so beautiful this song. i dont understand her just saying :)

  • @cryptotom definitely dump her

  • This song is spectacular. The video was almost great, but they ignored Gimli. Apparently, he isn't pretty enough.

  • My Favorite~ Song in all the world~D'JOY

  • at 2:28 it looks like pippin... took an arrow to the knee =P

  • The Fellowship Will Never Break!

  • What will you do when its all over and your world turns to silver glass and you come upon the white shores? Will you be ready?

  • Call me a nerd, but I will till love the Lord of the Rings.

  • why do i weep? it's because i dont live in middle earth! well i do since it was the saxon name for europe.

  • why are there comments arguing? how can you even think of bad stuff while listening to this song?

  • Comment removed

  • I love you Frodo ♥

  • Frodo lives!

  • I cry every time I listen to this song :D. Thanks so much for putting it up- and putting those images to it :D. As for copyright- I own (if memory serves ^^) all three movie soundtracks- so THERE RIAA :D

  • most beautiful song i' ve ever heard

    i love it

    thank you :)

  • It would figure they would make hobbit movies when all the fans of those fictional works want them to make The Silmarillion and The Children of Húrin.

Will they make those or is it all hairy hobbit feet? So many people have such limited tastes.

  • God I cannot wait for the two Hobbit movies! 2012 and 2013 need to hurry up and get here! Those movies are going to be so badass...

  • I prefered the hobbit to the lotr trilogy as books, but whist saying that they both Beat just about every other book on the planet hands down, much like the films beat almost every other film ever made. Long live Tolkiens Legacy, And Long Live Peter Jackson for Transcribing so much beauty from book to film. I agree with my fellow tolkienists, Lotr With live For Ever
