i must say i'm an outraged by all the gay coupling going on in this clip. i was so enraged that i watched this clip several times to make sure of what i was seeing and then i watched it several more times to be sue that i had seen what i thought i saw. it was awful. my whole body began to perspire and parts of me began to stiffen with rage. i was positively oozing anger as i watched this outrageous episode. i mean outrageous. i want to know who is responsible for this. his azz is mine.

I am part of the crew of Retro Film Studios. We did not make a "gay" episode of Star Trek. We made an great episode of Star Trek which happens to have gay relationship as part of the story line. Hopefully in the future, books, movies and TV episodes can be judged on the merits of the story and not just in the sexuality of its characters.

I think there being a gay couple would have worked a lot better if they had held to the same standards that all relationships had in the original series. I mean... you wouldn't have seen Kirk laying on top of a woman. Sure kissing. Yeah you'd see him pulling his boots back on the morning after... but... I dunno. Making it so physically intimate, while I find it adorable, doesn't really fit into the whole "Star Trek The Original Series" thing they're going for, gay OR straight.

"Blood and Fire" is an episode written by David Gerrold for possible use on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The script was commissioned and written, but never actually filmed because certain studio executives had a negative reaction to its positive depiction of an openly gay couple. It was eventually adapted by Gerrold into a standalone novel

These guys were both dressed, but my first reaction was also a little apprehension.

But remember Kirk was taking interstellar relations to a pretty high level too in the 60s... he seemed to be making out with a new species most weeks. I would think that's riskier behaviour.

Originally a two-part story draft for Star Trek: Phase II in 1977, it was rewritten into a one part episode for this production. A good deal of the episode takes place on Qo'nos, the Klingon homeworld: which was shot on location at Fort Ticonderoga, NY, and at a local restaurant. Members of the International Klingon Federation helped out with the location shoots.

I heard it ( MIGHT ) be this month .

I think they should also recognize Lucy Ball as the "Mother of Star Trek" as ST:TOS was produced by Desilu Studios, and Ms. Ball was the one who gave the green light for the show. If not the mother, as least "Midwife" or "Grandmother". Some sort of recognition.

I had heard so much about this episode, and was looking forward to watching it. Under normal circumstances, I would've thought the ending very appropriate, but one week before I finally found the episode, I lost my long-time lover to the AIDS virus. It hit a little too close to home, but otherwise I actually enjoyed the episode. He was a huge Trekkie... I just wish he'd been alive long enough to see it.

Getting back to the teaser, the drama of the main plot was the heavily damaged Enterprise was in constant danger of being attacked by the Klingons that were patrolling the sector. Combined with the hype of a "new" Phase II look for the Enterprise in subsequent eps., I was expecting Commander Kharg to attack the Enterprise, damaging it further, to justify a refit to the Phase II look. The ending I saw was weak.
