Great series! I just purchased the new ESAB 280. I started with a MillerMatic. After watching your first and second video I knew I was ready to move on. The MillerMatic is OK to start. After I became more confident that was not not gonna die my welding becomes more about fabricating instead of practice = thicker material, more ambitious projects and structural efficacy. Thanks for the inspiration to go forward.
Hey this might be a stupid question but when your mig welding and you hook the earth clamp to the metal your welding, can you touch the metal or is there a current running through it ?
@MrDavetheman you can touch it (careful a ground can get hot enough to burn you bad) but as far as getting electrocuted that is not likely because the voltage is very low,
I find the weight of the MIG gun makes it harder to control. I can do robotic looking welds with stick and TIG, still need to get more practice to get that clean look with MIG. The welds are strong, just don't look very good.
Thanks for the videos on Mig welding, I am just getting into Mig welding and have been stick welding for years, I have a Miller Trailblazer and a Miller Shop welder that welds both AC & DC. I purchased a Lincoln 125HD mig welder and started with flux core wire.. Thanks to you explaining and showing me the luxury of using shielded gas, I will pickup and adapter with flow meter and will be using the gas mix. I watch you videos nightly and always learn something. TONY G. cougarman07470
@cougarman07470 you're very welcome sir, I really appreciate comments like these the most. sometimes I'm just being a goofball but when I put out a video like this it's only up there to help folks out.
Thanks very much for the primer! I've never mig welded but it does look pretty easy.
I read some books and self-taught myself with stick and oxy/acetylene back in the 70's. I was building a dune buggy. It looked a bit like the Flintstones car because I had no way to bend tubing but it held together through a lot of hill jumping so I guess I did okay. I just hobby weld but your tutorial has gotten me interested in mig. Looking forward to more.
@Davetech23 well it's not INCREDIBLY easy but it's about the easiest for a novice to use and is very versatile, with the right machine it works well for thin and thick materials, and with small changes it can weld aluminum and stainless steel satisfactorily.
Could you define the term " spray arc " as you have demonstrated ? Or maybe I missed that somewhere...Thanx in advance.

more voltage=better welds?

@Zorack10 Depending on material and position.
