update will keep files but not recommended for jailbreaks because it messes up the device.

turn your ipod/iphone off, then unplug. hold home whil you are pluging it in, and continue to hold it until you see the itunes thing on your screen. then unplug it again. plug it back in, then try to go into itunes, hold shift and restore. it should work.

for those of you who cant do it this way search for the new ih8tesnow download for windows thats the easiest way to do it. it works with 3.1 update just make sure u backup ur info on itunes

Just youtube DFU mode theres a lil process to that, and its just a lil error usually restarting your computer or switching the usb port your using will fix the problem

Thanks it works! Only bad thing is that you have to install appsync and installous again to sync cracked apps in the itunes library and if you use themes then the slide to unlock text will disappear.Does anyone know how to get the carrier name back?

What do you mean won't work on EDGE? I am on AT&T with EDGE and 3G. I jailbroke with iH8snow and it all worked except "NO SERVICE". That is what is displaying on iPhone 3G with ultrasnow installed through Cydia.

You are not doing something right.

Plug in USB. Open iTunes. Slide to Power Off. Then hold Sleep button and Home button for 10 seconds. Release Sleep button and continue to hold home button for 10 seconds. COUNT. After your second set of 10 seconds, release the home button and WAIT! Touch nothing. You will get a white screen.

That is what I did. I didn't think I held it long enough but then I got the audible beep from Windows and the screen on my iPhone turned white.
