  • Hey hikock what model smith is that? It looked like a k or l frame but I'm not too sure. Thanks for all the vids

  • Thank you for the information on cast sizes of the bullet. I really enjoyed the video. Hopefully I will remember that when I get a lever action rifle.

  • is this the same gun that shoots the 45 colt?

    from your other video

  • Great info, thanks for the video Hickok! I appreciate it! YEEEEEEHHHHHHHHAAAAAWWW!!!

  • I really want one of these in .357 mag.

  • @tbndeereman75 I got the winchester 1892 in .357 magnum, and it's a very nice shooting rifle and hits quite well with a hot loaded 158 gr. speer deep curl.

  • @jung159 is ur .357 good for deer? i am looking for a lever gun and i like the .357

  • Can you put a scope on this?

  • @wolfslayer1990 yes you can scope it

  • God damn, do you ever miss?

  • The PUMA is nice.......

  • Who makes the holster for your 3" smith?

  • Comment removed

  • ive got this gun in blank gun version

  • I've been shooting and hunting with a .44mag since, oh....probably mid '80's with a Super Redhawk. Recently I picked up another Ruger, a Super Blackhawk. I was all fired up to get a Marlin in .35 Rem, but after seeing this video I have to go out and look for a Marlin in .44mag!

  • man i really like your vidoes so does my son. also do you have any henry rifles if so please do a video on them i own a henry lever action 22 rifle and its amazing good luck on your videos have a nice day

  • I like the way you point out that its not the weight of bullet that defines flight path, we all need to remember pull of gravity is constant no matter what weight is, its speed and ballistic coefficient or drag that affect flight path

  • Excellent video, lots of info on the 44 mag.

  • thats a hex barrel there mate

  • @dabigtank167 No. Look at it closer, when he shows the muzzle. 0:49

  • thats a hex barrel there mate

  • A cheap case of paper plates stapled to the backer make great targets to simulate steel plates at ranges that don't allow steel targets.

  • I just bought a used Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum today. I've wanted that gun since I was about 9 years old. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to getting it to the range!

  • hickok, what are your impressions on the Henry repeating .44?

  • Where did you get your holster for your 3 inch S&W 629? Thank you. Like your videos.

  • careful with that gun!

  • That is some good shooting.

  • can you fire hollowpoints out of a .44 levergun?

  • @Mellow6ties any flat tipped/hollow point ammo you can fire out of a lever gun, and i say flat tip because you dont want a sharp point on the round that could cause a primer detonation...

  • @soonersfan081 Don't forget those fancy Hornady leverevolution rounds.

  • can you shoot 44 special out of this rifle?

  • Hi, this sounds stupid but wich has more recoil 30-30 or 44mag rifle

  • @MrSkates360 30-30

  • for deer hunting i use a winchester 94ae,30-30 with hornady 165 grain bullets. the gun has a 20 inch barrel. is this a good choice or should i look into a bolt action rifle. thanks

  • Can I buy 431 diameter bullets at any sport stores or do I need to order them from some where special?? Who make this size bullets?

  • Great vid!

  • Nothing like a lever gun to bring back western nostalgia. Great vid Hickok

  • Mr. Hickok, I've heard from certain individuals that cast bullets leave lead deposits in the rifling of the barrel, and that over time this can cause permanent damage to the rifling. Is this true?

  • @armenianesh818 well im not sure if my word means much but ill just mention, yes there will probably be some lead deposits in the rifling of the barrel but its still lead a soft metal compared to the steel of the barrel, usually all youll need is to clean the barrel to get rid of the lead deposits, it shouldnt harm the barrel but if the barrel is dirty it will cause accuracy problems, but nothing permanent..

  • @AngelosMonark

Thank you for replying to my question. I appreciate that you took the time to answer it. I've also heard from different sources that if you constantly shoot reload rounds that it will have the same effect that I previously mentioned. I don't know whether this is true or not, but whenever I go to the indoor shooting range in Burbank CA, their weapons are VERY unreliable and VERY inaccurate. My dad told me it's because of the reload rounds that they use though I have my doubts.

  • @armenianesh818 maybe its because they dont know how to clean out the guns properly? im just saaying soft lead shouldnt affect guns permanently just causes then to dirty up a lot faster

  • papa gun rocks !!

  • Tons of great info in this video, great job hickok

  • Hickok45 and Tom Knapp should hang out, shoot some clay's and knock back a few cold one's. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • these videos seem to get really quiet after shooting the guns

  • these videos seem to get really quiet after shooting the guns

  • Can you put a sight on it? like a rifle scope???

  • Stick a dildo on the end then stick it in your throat and fire a shotty.

  • @kylebikesfit Asshole.

  • @flacoferlife im kidding haha

  • Looks very well balanced in your hands :-) I also like the hexagonal barrel. Thanks for the video.

  • 10:10 for the shooting

  • Whoa whoa whoa! What is that on the stock of the rifle? That ups it's cool factor by 5!

    Seriously though, what is it.

  • @xmmh Alright nevermind. I got overexcited and precommented.

  • I LOVE YOUR VIDEO,S HICKOCK .! please just keepum coming, thank you sooohh much!!

  • is this gun left handed friendly?

  • hickok what exactly is bullet grains the weight the bullet or the siz of the bullet?

  • @deerhunter29102 It's the weight of the bullet.

  • @Weaponcollecter16 thanks i was always a little lost when it came to that

  • Wowza that gun has some juice behind it!

  • dude THAT is a cool vid. Heavy Hitters and Gong Targets? MAN STUFF BABY!

  • Hey Hickok, have you ever shot a Henry? How was it? I'm looking for a lever rifle and I heard Henry and Marlin are the top dogs for this sort of thing.

  • watching this guy shoot is like watching an artist paint

  • I have the same rifle, is heaps of fun. Apparently it was the last one left in the factory here in Australia when i ordered it. Very happy with it

  • I would trust my Sig P226 to hit a small target at 20+ yards. I wouldn't be able to hit much with my glock at that range, but with an aimed shot from my Sig, I could put a .40 caliber hole in the forehead of a static target, not to say it would be easy, It's just not a shot to be rushed. It helps to REALLY know your gun.

  • I would love to go shoot with you some time, I have a pair of 60yr old colts i shoot SASS one is a .44spl the other .45LC one belongs to my aunt the other to my dad I shoot a marlin cowboy chambered in 45lc I am going to buy a pair of Taylors New model conversions with 8 inch barrels :) i already bout a rig for them

  • very interesting videos, most 5 year olds on this site just want to see guns being fired to make them feel like they shoot them, but i appreciate the commentary, its very interesting..thanks :)

  • @mickparker0 By anti Freedom I mean Anti Gun, anti Self Defense, Anti individualism. There are lots of those in england. Here in America, we sometimes take those things for granted at times, but even something as simple as wanting to drive a different car with a different engine that is not a Hybrid, is treated differently here as compared to over there. Basically, More Freedom, less Restriction.

  • @mickparker0 I don't know if that is a particular station that you are looking for, but we have lots of radio stations here. The cover everything just about, including stations dedicated to Classic Rock, Oldies, and others. We also still have AM channels that play sports, other types of music, Talk radio. But yes, there are many classic rock stations in the US, a lot of them being local.

  • @mickparker0 Personally, I love my country very much. Yes, we have some problems with some polititions, but in general, if you live in a small town, people are very friendly, and we take our freedoms and rights very seriously. Hey, since you are coming over here, Would it be ok if we kicked some anti freedom people out and sent them over there? (Jk)

  • @mickparker0 Well, it depends on where you live. I will say there is a lot to do here. A lot of states have really great fishing if you are into that, and currently, there is no road/car tax from our federal gov't. I have never understood why in the UK that they can charge 3000 a year for a classic muscle care that gets driven 50 miles each year, but only 50 for a beat up smoke spewing volkswagon beetle that gets driven 15,000 miles. It's backwards.

  • @mickparker0 No problem man. I've lived under gun oppression before, so I kind of have an idea what you are going through.

  • @mickparker0 Sure you do. Only, the criminals are the only ones who have them. You have my sympothy sir. Firearms and the shooting sports used to be a big part of the UK, and you have lost your herritage due to your government. As an American, I hope you can get things turned around, and I wish you the best of luck in doing so.

  • I notice someone else Commented on the Skinner Sights. Is that the Express model? All in all, a very nice looking little Levergun. Just by chance, are you a member on the "Marlin Owner's" website?

  • Oh nice rifle the newer ones are checkered stock with a circular front sight wonder what year this rifle was manufactured? I'll never get to fire mine because it's so nice to just look at plus ammo was expensive just gonna keep it clean and new looking :P

  • The guy at Cabela's told me only to shoot 45 LC with these.

  • @SuperOxideDimutase you always want to shot ammo with what the manufacture suggest any other caliber you use you want to be careful i won't go to say that it can't fire a 45 LC (never tried it) so if my rifle says to use 44 mag or 44 special i myself wouldn't take that chance of using a 45 LC maybe some others would but not me

your safety and the safety of others depends on it. but then again i can't seem to find my manual at this time....lol

  • how much is a box of 500 44 magnums?

  • @ddgg00 just the bullets or a whole complete cartridge

  • @ddgg00 In the U.S i bet it's free compared to Scandinavian standards....

  • @ddgg00 i doubt anyone sells them in that much bulk. look on bulkammo(dot)com, ammoforesale(dot)com ableammo(dot)com.

  • @ddgg00 A box of regular 44. mag bullets (240 grams) costs 240 dollars. The rounds featured in this video, the 44. magnum lead flat head special costs 280. If you are deer hunting I highly recommend the flat head special because it leaves a larger ballistic imprint meaning the deer bleeds faster.~Nick, Robertson Trading Post Henderson TN

  • @ddgg00 , 500 .44's would cost you close to a million dollars

  • @ddgg00 ive never seen them in 500 but a box of winchester which is a 50 count is around 30 or 35. reloading them is way cheaper.

  • Comment removed

  • @ddgg00 On Cabelas cast bulk .44 is 409 dollars for 600 rounds.

  • @ddgg00 around 350 i think

  • @ddgg00 Not cheap, but cheaper than 45-70 gov't.

  • Nice hat duudess!

  • Send this guy to Afghanistan with an M14 and let him go to work. Damn.

  • Did u jus say dodge city? as in nashville?

  • Great video and damn good shooting!

  • Damned your good at shooting!

  • Hey. How is the recoil on the .44mag? I have a toss between 44mag and 30-30, and I don't know which to pick. Mostly will be used for range, but also occassional hunting in CT. I never shot neither of those calibers. Just like .223 and .22lr. Is there a difference in kick, and can we compare 44mag and 30-30 recoil to anything? I'm a small frame guy, so I'm curious. Thanks

  • Hickok45 you're the man! is there any gun you don't have? haha! Another great video

  • great vids, enjoy them all, love this Marlin

  • this question is a little random but do you have a mp-40 or a henrey rifle please let me know

  • 3:48

That was your daily ammo truck, right hickok?

  • did they use this gun in WW1 and if they didnt why? its so much easier in my opinion

  • @MrRandomaussie wow<<<<<

  • @MrRandomaussie: I dont think it was ever issued, I think the problem would be that most lever-action rifles dont have the range that many bolt-action rifles did, I know a 30-30 lever action does not have the range of the 30-06 springfield from WW1. Another problem is that the lever action does not load nearly as fast as a bolt action with a 5 round stripper clip. They also mentioned that using a lever gun in a dugout was more difficult than a bolt-action. Either way I love my 44 mag levergun.

  • @tonydelacruz45 thanks for that mate thats a real good point. and the .44 is good all .44's are!!

  • @MrRandomaussie cheers

  • i just got an 1894s and am just getting into reloading. it's a microgroove barrel.., and i;m guessing yours is too, ya? good tip on the 431's, i've been hearing this alot, and if i shoot cast, will make sure i get the right size. do jacketed 429's shoot just fine? my first batch will be used fiocchi brass, 2400 (however much my lee basic loader decides i start with, GMM large pistol primers (not magnum) and Hornady 240 gr xtp. does this sound ok? lol... i'm new

  • ive had to reload for my marlin 336 because every factory bullet just keyholes

  • Damn, that thing packs some power

  • what is the ammo cap on the levergun ??

  • Crap...one of the best lever guns

  • Best revolver

  • I am looking for a rifle that i can take with me camping and use for hunting, how is the reliability of this rifle? Is the recoil the same as a 30/30?

  • Comment removed

  • Another Great video, straight to the point, from a guy with years of practical firearms experiance and no bullshit. Thank you Sir, I will be getting a Marlin in 44 mag, the cowboy unlimited or the stainless round barrel. Manchester, England. UK.

  • @eldubya2010, I think so. the Smiths seem to shoot anything from .429 - .431 just fine.

  • hi hickok45

what do you do for barrel leading?

  • Another great video! Thankyou

  • i have a hunting buddy thates huntes with a 7mm in his gun goes thow thos thing like you shoot at i thank it is a over kill

  • im looking to get the skinner peep sight for my 1894 44mag ad i was wondering did you use your factory front sight? im not a fan of the marlin factory sights as i too have astigmatism and it makes it extremely difficult for me to focus on the sights. any info will be greatly appreciated

  • @02lb72500HD , Yes, it aligned okay with the front sight. Apparently, the cowboy models usually work with the stock front sights. On others you might have to change the front sight out, too. Depends.

  • Even though I have yet to handload, your descriptive insider tips were easily digested and very interesting.

  • I wish i had a backyard setup like that...

  • It's a really nice looking piece of hardware. Kind of a bridge from the subject, but what would you recommend as a starting handgun for a guy on a budget? You definitely know better than I do.

  • I used to carry a Blackhawk convertible in 357 and a Marlin lever gun in the same to plink for fun as a really nice combination. Rossi is supposed to have a Mare's Leg in 44 mag coming out in 2011 and I may look at it. It is supposed to have 45 long colt as well. I enjoyed too many TV shows in the 1960's to not be fascinated with lever guns. I have a soft spot for Marlin rifles.

  • definitely agree on the toughness of those plate targets. even at 15 yards, I have missed quite a bit on those plates shooting stages.

  • I'll be getting the stainless steel model shortly and to prepare I think I've watched this video 20 times...

  • i bought this gun back in1978-79 it has the round barrel model 1894 cost $92.00

  • What is the hight of your front sight? I just got a skinner for my 1894SS and I am shooting high. Thanks.

  • Don't fuck with this guy!

  • another great video fro this guy.

i love all his videos just great showing you the rifles beng used and fired

taking about ammo loads. he knows so much respect.

    keep the videos coming mate.

  • Very good shooting. I like the mystique of lever guns since my favorite plinking rifle is a Marlin 39A and I liked it so well I eventually got a Marlin 357 magnum.

  • How much does that rifle weigh, how is the recoil as compared to a 30 30? I have a messed up neck and do a lot of hunting with pistols. I have always been curious about a .44. I had a 30 30 trapper Winchester that was a real cheek buster.

  • i watch all your videos i like your work

  • why do you need glasses if you can shoot like that??? very good shooting :)

  • How do you find the 300 grain bullets perform in the 1894? I've heard from numerous sources saying that the slower 1:38" twist will not properly stabilize bullets weighing over approximately 270 grains. But you seem to have no problems with them?

  • @KingKoodles , They work fine for me.

  • @hickok45 thats a nice gun you got there. seeing you shoot that gun make me want to shoot my grandpa's lever action, all i know about it is that its not a replica and its going to a musiem

  • @hickok45

Sir, how bad is the kick from the .44 mag in a rifle? I have cervical spondylitis, and really can't handle the heavy stuff any more. I've never tried the .44 in a long gun, and would appreciate your thoughts as to whether it is a suitable combination for the recoil sensitive.

  • When the wife allows... this is my next rifle. I've probably watched this video 10 times in the last month. Watched A Fist Full of Dollars and Good, Bad, and the Ugly for the nostalgia factor too. What's not to love?! Light weight, 10 +1 round capacity, fast handling, and .44 magnum that can take pretty much any animal in N.A. under 100 - 150 yards!!!! I'll probably put on the new winged skinner sight if I don't go with the XS rail sight. Great video and very informative Keep'em coming.

  • Looking to get one of them.thanks

  • very nice your a crack shot!!! beautiful rifle

  • @mxrida97

4:03 something from the right enters the screen at the middle almost level with the bench top and fly towards the top centre almost at his head, looked yellow probably an insect of small bird

  • Nice shooting! No flinch on an empty chamber. That's great education for new shooters. I like the Marlins, I have four in Cal. .22, .25-20 Win, .35 Rem, and 45-70.

I don't have a .44 Mag rifle yet but I'll have to look into getting one. To one older gentleman from another. Nice video.

  • I like then way you talk, and explain about your guns,

    and fireing them,

    really cool and interesting too,

  • I really enjoy your videos. I adore guns; it's just a pity I can't obtain one so easily in my country (Ireland).

  • nxt video--- review about nuclear boom!

  • your great with em ghot sights

  • SKINER!

  • I was checking out a forum and heard that you can buy a metal follower and take out your ten round plug and get an extra rounf capacity or two. I'm not sure of the validity but it might be worth checking it out the next time you take down your gun for cleaning.

  • this video was made on my birthday last year in 09 wat a surpise im 11 now did you name your self hickok45 because of james wild bill hickok he is my second favorite outlaw my first is john wesley hardin for christmas im shooting a 44 magnum revolver 45. , 9mm and 357 magnum colt python cant wait marry christmas

  • Mr. hickok45 I like the way you explain in videos. But I have a question for you.

Some years ago I bought a Marlin 336 caliber 30-30. But now I'm looking for what is the best scope for this type of weapon.

Certainly in Mexico, this weapon was very popular during the years of revolution, and there are even some old songs on this rifle and even more amazing is that a bottle of tequila carries the name of 30-30.

    thank you very much

  • You should get a HD camera. Would look much nicer, Nice rifle by the way.

  • hickok45 you say that you aim with your left eye, do you ever shoot lefty?

  • I'm trying to decide between the Marlin .357 mag/.38 and the Marlin .44mag/.44 Special lever rifle. I'd like my wife to be interested in shooting it as well. Is there a big difference in the amount of recoil between the two?

  • see that´s good shooting :-)

  • did you replace your front sight too?

  • @AirsoftVeteran96 , No, on the cowboy models, it has just required a rear sight replacement. The front sight still works fine.

  • I wondered if the OAL of 300 grain bullets wouldn't choke those Marlins. Good to see that they dont. And I love your range.

  • Pro aiming, love it.

  • How bout a Chapter 2 shooting both Lever and 3" Smith to show the diff when the lead hits the small swinging plates?

  • This is my bear gun.

  • Thanks for the informative video. I just purchased a model 1894 44 mag and will be using it deer hunting in WV starting next week. Cant wait to see how it does

  • Shot one of these in .357 they are alot of fun to shoot.

  • I'm planning on going into law enforcement once out of college and so I did some research and saw your videos on the glock pistols before (very excellent and informative), then I just decided to see if you had any on lever action .44s and lo and behold! I'm looking at buying my first rifle and I'm thinking of going with a lever action. So far, the Henry Big Boy has really caught my eye. Would you recommend a Marlin over a Henry? Do you know of anything negative about the Henry Big Boy?

  • @DaveKnights66 , No, I don't know anything negative about it.

  • @hickok45 you mention your height and your long length of pull. out of interest , how tall are you ?

  • @DaveKnights66 I just bought a Big Boy .44 magnum, it is a little heavier than the Marlin but it shoots great. .429 240 grain lead bullet is no problem for it, doesn't tumble even with max powder load. The brass did it for me & I am very happy with the rifle. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @DaveKnights66 Ive got a Henry .44 mag/spl, as great of a gun as it is, some of the things i wish i'd considered more carefully before buying it are that it's a lot heavier than most other lever guns (you really notice that you're holding the thing after a while on the range) and it's not side-fed like the marlins. To load the big boy youve got to draw out a long tubular insert and slide rounds down towards the action from the muzzle end, which is awkward the first few times around.

  • Yeah, I've got one of those repeaters...y'know... In fallout new vegas :)

  • I have a .44 magnum Marlin, but my manual specifies hollow point ammo in the tubular magazine. I got the rifle over 25 years ago, so is that an outdated precaution? I assume it was to keep the primers from going off in the tube with regular-nosed (non-hollow point) ammunition touching end to end.

Thanks for your videos, sir. I've learned a lot.
