  • Now all the kids can see where Steve Vai got his hippy weirdo guitar god vibe from

Check the solos here,Vai copped Hillage all the way, tone, feel.go to the 4:00 minute mark approx and hear for yourself. Hilly is da best!

  • Amazing gig.

  • excellent performance. plz don't forget the rest of the band. all excellent and several of them still playing together LAST WEEK! magic ...

  • As Neil the hippy said on The Young Ones: Oh wow, Steve Hillage.

I've been enlightening a 25 yr old colleague at work on the wonders of the Hill-meister.

  • Steve Hillfish.The Maestro.

  • The cynicism of the Hillage/Beck comparison begs the reason for the comment, though I loath greater visibility to mind that made it.

  • Ah, the beauty of pentatonic scales!

He reminds me of Jeff Beck

  • Isn't it time this "ten minute" restriction was lifted? It's been a pain in the *rse ever since YT started.

I get fed up with having to switch back to a YT window to start the next segment particularly if I've just started to get into what was playing.

    OK, whinge over.

Thank you, tpatgod2007, for uploading this. It's wonderful stuff!

    :)

  • Hillage is kewl!

  • Into the history of the guitar-players, Steve Hillage has not had the merit he really deserves. He revolutionized the sonic concept of the instrument and also he always played better that many guitar-players famous into the mainstream. The problem was that many people blindly believed in the american rock press such as the last word. But, I keep that this century is going to be a fair century for many performers who really did not have a fair recognition.

  • True, but what could he do compete with Alan Holdsworth? No he made banging techno, much better!

  • HILLAGE IS GOD!

  • amazing! thank you so much for uploading that!

  • I wonder, is Tony Littlejohn watching this?

  • Great footage, this is a real gift!

  • God Bless Steve Hillage an Bugs Bunny!

    That's all, Folks!

  • Such a complex song to do live. Freaking great.

  • wow! clive bunker

  • Certainly is a great tune. Fantastic musicians too. Especially Clive Bunker on drums.

  • This guy is sick, why does no one into classic rock know who he is? He deserves to be on classic radio damn it!

  • Twistomatic -- That's because most people have a musical IQ of below 100! Few people know of Tommy Bolin either. Hard to believe he was a contemporary of Jimi huh...

  • WOW! True psychedelik energy!

  • Got to Say The Salmon Song is still hot today 33 years later!

  • Om Shanti Shanti Shanti!!!

  • Timeless music! THANK YOU mr.Otto

  • thanks for putting this on . Its great to see and hear steve hillage one of my favorites musicians

  • "Guided from Alantis to the Water-Bearers's jar...Ah ha-we're getting nearer, Nearer to the Water Bearer." Check Share International.

  • "Salmon Song" is one of my favorite compositions for guitar, it makes a case for him being among the top 5 greats. Uber-psychedelic prog, this version is even better than the studio one from "Fish Rising", the best psych-prog effort ever made! He makes the complex arrangements and playing seem so effortless here.

  • i had the same face 30 years ago.what a merde like when say in french to loose his hairs!!!it is genious to see that if it is old fashion for the new generation , its stil soooooooooo gooooood for us

  • Fuckin Ace man, remmeber seeing him at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester when I was younger, on drugs and drunk...Arrrhhh---Salmon Song. Thanks to our German U-tuber.

  • Steve Hillage! Where is he now, anybody know? Loved his guitarwork with Gong, and enjoyed his solo excursions (though he was always too serious, compared to Daevid Allen). Beautiful angelic guitar hero, for sure... hope to hear he's still around and making music!

  • were is he now?

    steve hillage & system 7

and recently playing back with gong at the gong convention in Amsterdam last year.

  • That's fabulous news... inspiring! Goes to show, good music and great musicians never fade away without at least a few glorious comebacks :-) Thanks for the update, tpatgod.

  • @Starmandala Steve is here on youtube and in England still . I will write to you so it's not posted in public . Other wise he will get flooded with ignorance ..if ya know what I mean. He is Systen 7 .check out my site if you like . I have dedicated my whole life to be following in Steve's footsteps..

  • Does anyone have1988 aktivator and talking to the sun.Or anything off "green".

  • Are Steve hillage and Eric idol related? they look like brothers.

  • "Are Steve hillage and Eric idol related? they look like brothers." He looks like Tiny Tim, to me. Nothing wrong with what's coming out of the amps, though.

  • Fish rising is one of my favorite albums, but green and open are gems.but gong live etc is amazing.

  • Awesome more people who love steve....peace to all .All is one and one is all.

  • One of the greatest guitarist the U.K has ever produced and much under rated, a true and original genius. This clip is like water in the desert!

  • Is there footage anywhere of Searching for the Spark, the riff was awsome?

Have only found these performances today. Still have my vinyls in the attic. Got the CD version of Live Herald, best live album ever.

  • One of the greatest guitarists of all time! Thanks for posting this = bloody marvellous stuff.

  • Underrated 70's genius guitar guy.

  • Totally agree

  • Anybody who does a symphony to the breeding habits of salmon should go down (literally!) in Portland's History (or Herstory, if one believes the local legends!). However, great improvisational (jamband, fucking duh!) documentation.

Peace & fish from Portland, OR, USA.

  • wonderful why isn't this on dvd

  • thanks so much for this...so glad to see people liking the HILLAGE!

  • Steve Hillage: "The Salmon Song": King of the fishes; Fishes is floating upstream; from the north sea; and to the western coast up,up and away trough the Norwegian Fjords up, up to the mountains to their once belonging!

  • Brilliant! Thanks for sharing and taking us back down memory lane once again.

This is a well record video, I love it!!!! The last I saw Steve and Miquette live as Steve Hillage Band was back in 76' in Coventry. I did get to chew the rag with him back in 2004 whilst at a gig in Manchester during their Encantado, System 7 gig. Now moving onwards and upwards with another Journey Beyond Time..

  • SOOO Jealous of that tale, mate! I got to see Hillage/System 7 play in the Limlight (NYC) back in 94 I think...
