They just don't make television shows like this anymore. The 80's had all the epic mini-series. Two North and Souths that were each 6 nights long, The Thorn Birds, and that one with Robert Mitchum, War something. They don't even make movies of the week anymore let alone something on this scale.
That's true..but PBS masterpiece theater does have some great miniseries..Little Dorrit..and their Jane Austen series..as well as the Forsyte Saga. But I do agree that NBC/CBS/ABC..dont do mini series anymore....
@SoapFan711 Agreed. The 80s were awesome for these kind of miniseries. I love North and South the best ofcourse, but War and Remembrance, right up there.
@SoapFan711 Winds of War. They should have made a mini-series about Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind etc., that would have made an excellent mini-series.
I went to Blockbuster yesterday and they said they didn't carry North and South.Does anyone know if it is available in Canda.I live in Ont. Really would like to get this DVD.Thankyou
The best mini series e book1 and2 on dvd. Don't watch book3 heaven and hell not half as good and easy mistakes made in it such as charles rank in the army is different at one pt to another for no reason. Patrick swayze doesn't feature. Madeline and George fall in love. Book2 although in many ways different to the novel still a good series.
I think in Book 2, they should have stayed a lot closer to the novel "Love and War" (my favourite book in the trilogy). In it, Brett's in Lehigh Station the whole time, we see a lot more George and Constance and their relationship, Constance starts an orphanage for slave children, and Madeline does not run away. In addition, James Huntoon is killed by Lamar Powell, Ashton's lover, in an attempt to retrieve a gold treasure in Santa Fe with which to establish a new Confederacy.
I love North and South, esp. that magical feeling that lies within the music! It's an incredible theme!

@Cynical31 yes I agree. I did some research this morning on that man's voice and it's Ernie Anderson.

@JelloFarming I agree. I read the whole series by VC Andrews and it was really out there..
Incest and everything. The movie they made sucked.
But, if they made something like that now, it would be for HBO or Showtime..
Personally, I like the Casteel Series and the Landey Series the best..

LOL, Huntoon would have deserved to be killed, that fool. and Ashton even more.... I always wished it had been Ashton who died instead of Virgilia
