I feel like the "8 x 10" girls started being recruited around the time that WWE had a contract with Playboy. Their existing roster (Lita, Trish, Molly Holly etc) wouldn't pose, but that contract is good money and exposure so they brought in these girls. Now WWE is PG and doesn't have that contract but they still have these 8 x 10 girls there.

Although the Diva Search wasnt all that bad, I mean we got Michelle (Arguably one of WWE's best female talent atm) Maria (Someone who was really over with the crowd)and Candice ( Proved everyone wrong about her not having talent, as well as being very over)

But Dawn is right in a way, the divas aren't really being taken seriously anymore. Otherwise someone like Natalya would be champion.

Well, I like dawn but i struggle to see how she was a good wrestler herself... most of the girls in the company today do better than she ever did! She was never a brilliant wrestler, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Trish WAS over rated. And i liked her! But yeah, she shouldnt have held that title so many times. A worthy champion, but not worthy of it 7 times.

Its a rollercoaster in that business, good eras and bad eras. I think we're slowly moving from the most recent "bad" era..

I don't agree. Not all the new Diva's are 8x10's. We have a lot of great diva's on the roster now. Mickie, Melina, Beth, Natalya, Katie, Maryse, and Gail. All wonderful wrestlers. Then you have the diva's that improve more and more each day. And of course divas who have no hope left. People like Kelly Kelly and The Bella Twins, will never be as great as Melina and Mickie.

If all of you wanna talk about the "downfall" of the WWE women's division lets start with TRISH STRATUS becoming a 7 time champion. That's when it all started. Trish should have never held the title so many times with such limited ability. She was highly overrated. At most Trish should have not exceeded being champion 3 times.

Michelle McCool is turning out to be a better champion than Trish ever was.

The current divas have potential to be better than the "golden era" that Dawn mention, actually they have better wrestlers now then they did back then. To me, WWE is just using them wrong. About the whole models thing, yeah they had pretty "talentless" girls in pro wrestling like all the way back even before WWE got big. There will always be models and pretty girls in wrestling so idk why people are acting like this is a new thing =/

idk about that. dawn didn't even mention molly, jazz, sable, or gail and her list still sounded great. i feel the division has become way better now since the diva search days but the girls are so limited. none of them have true characters or storylines the way the girls use to be. i just hate how divas like ashley or joy didn't really gave a f*** about wrestling. divas like christy and candice and kristal are the only only former divas i still love and respect from the diva search.

I consider the 2004 Diva Search to be the beginning of the end of women's wrestling in WWE. Ten women who knew little about wrestling, taking part in stupid, degrading competitions were getting TV time over the women who could wrestle. Not to mention, this was the year Jacqueline, Jazz, Nidia and Gail Kim all got cut, Ivory became a broadcaster, and Molly got buried.

The song in this video was perfect for outlining Victoria's career alone. She definitely saw quite a few changes (mostly for the worse) throughout her career. She came onto the scene at the beginning of the Golden Age and left in the midst of the shambles that is the women's division today

Why am I getting thumbs down for stating facts? Kelly and Michelle ARE better wrestlers than Dawn and Terri. Go watch their matches on this very site if you don't believe me. Dawn didn't even start training to wreste until she got in WWE. Sable, Trish, Victoria, Torrie and Stacy all started out as "8x10" girls. Hell, some of the main eventers are "8x10" men. Its just the way things work in this business.

Totally agree... While some of the "8x10" women ARE sincerely trying to improve their wrestling skills and become better wrestlers, I feel like they have also greatly brought down the quality of women's matches.

Even with Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, and Melina in the roster now, they still have to put people like Layla and Maria over. It's a shame someone like Victoria (who put on matches back in 02 that were better than some men's matches) had to end her career putting these new Divas over...

The thing is, they don't care if the girl can wrestle. The only thing they do care is if they are hot. As you can see, Natalya and Katie Lea (two great performers) are on ECW, where they can't even wrestle in a match, but Eve and Layla are on a storyline on SmackDown, where they appear every week, doing stupid backstage things that were done before the evolution of women's wrestling that occured in 2001. So, they are basically putting all the work that the Golden Age Divas done, on the garbage.

The difference is, girls like Dawn and Terri knew how to work a crowd and get a reaction from them. They had personalities. The current crop of cookie-cutter catalog girls are so bland and boring. It's not just about wrestling (which most of them can't do too well), they don't know how to tell stories. For example, while it didn't involve much wrestling, the Torrie/Dawn feud of 2002/2003 was one of the best storylines in recent memory. Also Dawn trained to wrestle before she went to WWE.

Kelly Kelly was good on ECW with her gimmick but WWE just turn the show to a kids show! Candice do alot of things and become a good wrestler but Candice can be on a kids show? I remember Torrie Wilson do good matches with Candice but that can't happen right now...This kids show sucks!

The difference between this and the golden age, is that mostly of the best divas today are like the same thing in ring as the worst divas of the golden age. Kelly is starting to get better NOW, and is not very good wrestling already.
