This is India's cast sytem followed for many generations. I agree completely but it is not what the vedantic dharma or now commonly known as Hinduism teaches. According to the vedas, anyone can become a Brahmin or a Kshetriya according to his willingness in the classes defined. Those who seek the knowledge of vedas and dedicate themselves to understanding it is a brahmin and those who chosses to be a warrior and learns thee art is a Kshetriya.

In bali, anyone who receives a diksha may become a brahmin, also people of different castes intermarry, and the bride gets the groom's caste and also the offspring. In ancient Khmer civilization Hinduism was imported as whole, but not caste system at all!!!!!
It is interesting to note how diverse, complex and sometimes weird south asia may become depending on time, tradition, community etc. In bengal there were not the traditional caste division, there were brahmins and sudras. vaishyas, Kshatriyas did not existed!!!! Namboodiri community in kerala still keeps this view. Putting again in doubt what caste system was like in ancient times!!! If it differs on region, Why not time?!

@jurys9 The original vedic definition of Vaishya is "commoner" ( it comes from Sanskrit root "Vis" which means "Common" or "Generic" ). Any productive work not related to the military or priesthood was Vaishya. Shudra was a class that specifically meant "menial labor" and developed later on.

it differs according to place in india. in north India khatriyas are like brahmins of south india. in south india brahmins are like khatriyas of north india. but by and large upper castes are top, in terms of wealth and prestige. but, may Indians realize that all are equal.

The successors of people who built the nation (the Aryans) must reap the benefits ahead of the historically outcast community.

Dosto, forget that govt will do any active effort to remove this sad thing but we, the people of India need to take positive measures. One solution that I can think of is that we all need to remove last name and just use first name and middle name. No need to use last name. Again don't depend on corrupt govt. Please list your suggestions too. Lets start working towards solution rather then blaming each other.

Well.. It is tough to convince everybody as most part of population r illiterate (or not-enough literate) people won't leave conservative thinking and I believe, that thing will take time. But all those who doesn't believe in conservative / orthodox / old style thinking should and MUST take initiative. If v all together want change then v must change ourselves, our thinking. It is simpler to make understand that by virtue of the nature of work, to be a Brahman one needs to be a Doctor, Engineer, Scientist, Teacher, Philosopher, Alchemist or a desciple of 'Brahmya-Gyan' or Knowledge of Creation or 'Science'. If one joins a business & becomes part of economic activity for the society one becomes a Vaishya, & if one goes into the defense or law maintaining forces one becomes a Kshatriya & if one is not any of the above one remains a Shudra or Working Class. It is the fact that Old Indian Brahmin class opressed others and did not spread knowledge for their own domination over the society ! Remember it is not birth on wich the society is divided it is tendency, influence and qualities(swabhav ,prabhav And Guna )of human being according to that the person is classified as Brahmin , Kshatriya, Vaishya , Kshudra. This is India's cast sytem followed for many generations. I agree completely but it is not what the vedantic dharma or now commonly known as Hinduism teaches. According to the vedas, anyone can become a Brahmin or a Kshetriya according to his willingness in the classes defined. Those who seek the knowledge of vedas and dedicate themselves to understanding it is a brahmin and those who chosses to be a warrior and learns thee art is a Kshetriya.

It is interesting to note how diverse, complex and sometimes weird south asia may become depending on time, tradition, community etc. In bengal there were not the traditional caste division, there were brahmins and sudras. vaishyas, Kshatriyas did not existed!!!! Namboodiri community in kerala still keeps this view. Putting again in doubt what caste system was like in ancient times!!! If it differs on region, Why not time?!

India is the ONLY society on the entire planet that has a SURVIVING civilization, a continuing civilization, that is more than 5000 years old! Most cultures have disappeared and been replaced with new ones. Yet, India, the Hindu culture, has survived the longest! Why? It is only because of Varnashrama Dharma (caste). Therefore, it is clear why the untouchables (muslims/christians) are trying to destroy the caste system!

@jurys9 The original vedic definition of Vaishya is "commoner" ( it comes from Sanskrit root "Vis" which means "Common" or "Generic" ). Any productive work not related to the military or priesthood was Vaishya. Shudra was a class that specifically meant "menial labor" and developed later on.
