It wasn't a traffic stop. The cop responded to domestic violence call and the guy was about to leave. The cop asked him for ID and the guy admitted he had marijuana. Officer Gurlea was looking for a victim, preferably female and relatively young and Hope Steffey fit. Once Gurlea got his catch all the other state drones got in on the action. Their superiors, wanting these types on the force, do everything in their power to cover for them.

This is why I am trying to get out of law enforcement. I don't want to take the chance of giving up my life for people who paint us all with the same brush. People who take a few bad examples of bad cops and ignore the thousands of good deeds that are done by cops every day. Unfortunately that doesn't get the media coverage it should. Yes there are bad cops, just like there are bad employees everywhere. Is it right? No. but hat doesn't mean the whole group is bad.

@Freedomguide I disagree. If the taser is used appropriately it can end a fight quickly that would have otherwise resulted in injury to the suspect or officer. Not that I condone tasering everyone such as elderly, handicapped, children, etc. Also I have let many a person go that I could have ticketed or "hauled" off to jail. If common sense and discretion is applied many situations can end without someone going to jail.

The news reports in the Hope Steffey case that a deputy was "confused" when he answered the call...what a load of BS! There was NEVER any confusion on who the victim was according to all the evidence by the Sheriff's Dept, The Ohio State BCI investigation, & the FBI.

i don't no what the answer is but i do no its time for the government to step in and make some kind of law dealing with police its completely out of control..down here in the southern states its much worse then anywhere else and when someone comments that police are just doing a hard job that tells me that person has never had contact with a cop because police brutally cases have risen over 60# in the last two years,its a problem that needs to be dealt with now before its gets any worse.
This video also alleges that the officer was "confused" about who the victim was. If you saw all the video, read the court transcripts, and got ahold of the incident report, you'd see that there is NO WAY this cop didn't know Steffey was the victim.
He is even on video discussing with another cop that Steffey's attacker had also been arrested the MONTH BEFORE THIS on another assault charge! Steffey's cousin is ALSO on video reminding the cop she is the victim.
In the Hope Steffey case, yeah Sheriff Swanson got caught in lies, along with the county Prosecutor John Ferrero & his office.
But during the state BCI investigation they reported that the next shift at the jail did NOT go along with the story Swanson was trying so hard to sell.
They reported that they could find NO effects, or even SMELL of alcohol on Steffey.
So thankfully there are SOME good cops, its just too bad the Sheriff & county prosecutor's office wasn't among them.

Whether or not you agree with this video, you can't use Rodney King as an example. That dumb fool just would not stop resisting and fighting back. Under his own admission he drove in excess of 100 mph trying to get away from the cops because he didn't want a DUI while he was on probation from a robbery conviction. It wasn't a traffic stop. The cop responded to domestic violence call and the guy was about to leave. The cop asked him for ID and the guy admitted he had marijuana. Cop talked to wife and asked her to leave and then the cop arrested the guy for possession. Do a little research, 'tard.

This is why I am trying to get out of law enforcement. I don't want to take the chance of giving up my life for people who paint us all with the same brush. People who take a few bad examples of bad cops and ignore the thousands of good deeds that are done by cops every day. Unfortunately that doesn't get the media coverage it should. Yes there are bad cops, just like there are bad employees everywhere. Is it right? No. but hat doesn't mean the whole group is bad.

Not that I condone tasering everyone such as elderly, handicapped, children, etc. Also I have let many a person go that I could have ticketed or "hauled" off to jail. If common sense and discretion is applied many situations can end without someone going to jail.

This video also alleges that the officer was "confused" about who the victim was. If you saw all the video, read the court transcripts, and got ahold of the incident report, you'd see that there is NO WAY this cop didn't know Steffey was the victim.
He is even on video discussing with another cop that Steffey's attacker had also been arrested the MONTH BEFORE THIS on another assault charge! Steffey's cousin is ALSO on video reminding the cop she is the victim.

In the Hope Steffey case, yeah Sheriff Swanson got caught in lies, along with the county Prosecutor John Ferrero & his office.
But during the state BCI investigation they reported that the next shift at the jail did NOT go along with the story Swanson was trying so hard to sell.
They reported that they could find NO effects, or even SMELL of alcohol on Steffey.
So thankfully there are SOME good cops, its just too bad the Sheriff & county prosecutor's office wasn't among them.

I have been illegally detained and had my vehicle searched in my town. So I'm having a hard time believing its just a couple bad apples that are giving cops a bad name. Whether or not you agree with this video, you can't use Rodney King as an example. That dumb fool just would not stop resisting and fighting back. Under his own admission he drove in excess of 100 mph trying to get away from the cops because he didn't want a DUI while he was on probation from a robbery conviction. He also physically struck at least one officer and threw another to the ground.
The whole world saw that tape thousands of times, but it wasn't the whole story at all.

But if they were using ASPs (the extendable batons) which were gaining popularity around that time because they can be carried on the belt in the cruiser, then they most certainly are aluminum sticks.
