@TheTrihorn1 LOL! No, it was bought to resell 27 years ago. It was probably sold about a month after this video was shot. Your 27 years late and a dollar short!
@OneBadSuperbird well you should have bought to resell today because i would have bought it and you would have made a hell of alot more than you did 27 yrs. ago.
@Mr68charger440 LOL it was my buddy's car. I provided the equipment to shoot the video. I have owned two 1970 Corohets - a 440 R/T and a 383 station wagon.
@Mr68charger440 That's what I had planned for it. It never got that far though. The guy I sold it to put a 451 lowdeck stroker in it and a healthy shot of spray. Cosmetically, it wasn't mich to look at being a dingy, faded reddish-brown color but I'm told it won a lot of late night street races on the mean streets of the Motor City's east side. I sometimes wonder what ever became of that car
@19mg94 Naaaah, it only works out to less than 9,000 miles a year. What a lot of people forget is that a lot of these cars were just that...cars. Cars like this 383 Superbee were just everyday drivers. A lot of southwestern cars that have been drivers their whole lives and have been kept in service for 20-30 years have 300,0000 to 500,000 miles on em. It's amazing how a dry climate can dramatically increase a car's lifespan.
@OneBadSuperbird well iv got a 70 cuda with 28000. but then iv got a 99 cummins with a 150000 lol my daddy has a 70 Z28 with 35000 thats just what i was rangeing it at
@19mg94 I hear ya there. It all depends on the owners. In 1983, we filmed a Mopar event at Charlotte (Lowes) Motor Speedway and met a fellow with a B5 Blue 440 4-speed Superbird. We did some filming at speed around the track from inside his car. At that time, the car had around 200,000 miles on it. We ran into him again at the wing car meet in Talladega in 2004 21 years later and the old Superbird had a tick over 500,000 miles on it!!!
These cars were so inexpensive back in 1984 that nobody in their right mind would make a clone. I don't think the idea of cloning a car was even invented yet as so many of these were readily available. You could easily get a real Superbee in nice condition for very little money.
@b679995 Excuse me? How much money do you have to wager on the FACT that the car shown in this video is a 100% factory 1970 Dodge Superbee? I swear the internet must breed morons.
for all the comments below: ronnie sox tested a 69 six pack bee back in 69 for hot rod magazine. the car only had a blue print ballenced motor and carb work, he got the car in the high 11's STOCK! but hot rod magazine said that they would not publish this because no one would believe it. so they de-tuned the motor to run mid 12 secons. this was all on stock red lined skiny tires. i herd that from ronnie himself at the mopar nats. in ohio
I saw one of these at local resturant that I eat at in the mornings and a guy pulled up in one just like this one!!. colors and all! I wasn't too fond of the F85 green but it was still a classic..
I read in a Mopar Mag that someone had a '69 Bee and it was a 6-pack car, and on the red-line tires he claimed that it ran a 12.80 in stock form. Can that 440 really push that hard with those tires? Just Curious.
It sure can. There are lot of '69 1/2 440 Six Pack lift-off hood Superbees and Road Runners can run 12.80's or quicker in "Pure Stock" trim and on the original F70-14 redline tires. I know several people real well that have Six Pack cars that run that fast. The fellow that rebuilt the 440 Six Pack engine in my yellow Superbird is the original owner of a '69 1/2 Sux Pack Bee that pretty much sets the standard for those cars. He runs 12.20's in Pure Stock legal trim.
That would mean that the HEMI powered cars must have been faster, then. A friend of my dads had a '71 Challenger with the 426 and he claimed that he ran 11.75. Never gave much thought to it, because the guy was a "story teller". lol Once told my dad he recieved orders from his teeth to clean his house. Anyway, lol, can the Challenger or Cuda run that quick? It doesn't surprise me that it could, the engine has the power and the drivetrain to do it.
You can actually get about as much power a lot more economically with a 440 Six Pack than with a Hemi. The cost of Hemi parts and the machine work and labor involved make it pretty darn costly. A properly set up Pure Stock trim Hemi Cuda can easily run in the 11's. You just have to decide for yourself if it's worth all the added cost and maintenance in a Hemi just to go a couple tenths quicker. Either one is an insanely cool ride.
Wow,back in '84 cars like this were still used as "daily drivers!" Rain, snow and the horrors of wet carpeting and rotted floor and trunk pans! So traumatized was I, haven't washed my '71 Challenger R/T in eight years. Just wipe it down with a "California Duster".
Now here we have a utterly baffling comment. We've got a video of a '70 Superbee that was shot 24 years ago (1984) and we have someone commenting that the taillight doesn't work??? Now what the heck is that all about and what possible significance could it possibly have? I swear I just can't figure people out any more.
Take it easy man, watching quite a few videos a day, I didn't notice it was actually taken at 1984.. I had good intentions and it could have saved you a ticket if you/anyone do drove it like that in the present.
OK, I kinda sorta think I almost understand now. Although I do have to add that it did say "1984" right in the title. Thanks for pointing that out though and for watching our videos.
Wow what a super car! Thanx for sharing
