What I don't get is why the mexicans are so bent on keeping spanish, having been colonized by the spaniards as opposed to the english, spanish is just as foreign to them as english, seeing as they once spoke aztecan or some other subordinate dialect. Why not embrace english? This, of course, does not mean I dislike spanish, I'm actually currently learning it, but it does mean, since they're so bent on coming over, why not just start learning english straight from mexico?

Actually this bill would not provide college funds to anybody; that is a common misconception. It only gives an opportunity to obtain legal status to immigrant kids who happen to take two years of college, that they pay for themselves.
Anyway, I encourage you to refuse to pay taxes. Our taxes pay for NAFTA and other free trade agreements that export well-paid U.S. jobs to Mexico as sweatshop jobs. They also subsidize agribusiness which pushes indigenous Mexicans off their land; a direct cause of the flood of immigrants heading north.
I believe that ultimately we have the same interests; Mexicans would like to stay in their own communities with their families. U.S. foreign and economic policy is a major cuase of the increased immigration, and it would be more worthwhile to target these things in order to reduce immigration, which is devastating to everybody.
I hope that as we learn more about the causes, we can unite against NAFTA, the transnational highway, and other policies that hurt people on both sides.

Just for the record, I think the bill is a good idea if the military component is removed. It is the military portion of the bill that these activists are opposing, because it is taking advantage of kids who want to become citizens very badly and most of whom can't afford college.

Right now, these are the United States of AMERICA, and there are laws about people coming into the country illegally. The only reason most illegal immigrants are from Central and South America, is because the border that they have with the US is not as regulated as the ports people from Italy, Germany, or China could enter illegaly through. Maybe because Mexicans in all too many cases are unwilling to learn English or adapt to American culture. European immigrants usually are willing to do both, if they haven't already. What I don't get is why the mexicans are so bent on keeping spanish, having been colonized by the spaniards as opposed to the english, spanish is just as foreign to them as english, seeing as they once spoke aztecan or some other subordinate dialect. Why not embrace english? This, of course, does not mean I dislike spanish, I'm actually currently learning it, but it does mean, since they're so bent on coming over, why not just start learning english straight from mexico?

Actually this bill would not provide college funds to anybody; that is a common misconception. It only gives an opportunity to obtain legal status to immigrant kids who happen to take two years of college, that they pay for themselves.

I've also heard that "Latino" refers to anybody from a Spanish-speaking country, including Spain or the Spanish-speaking countries of South, Central, and North America (Mexico). Somebody correct me if that is wrong. Anyway, I realize Spanish is not the first language of the indigenous people, and they are therefore not technically Latino.

I correct myself. Latino does not refer to Spain. It refers to Latin American Spanish-speaking countries, at least according to the formal dictionary definition.

Can we afford to deport 20 million illegal aliens? Can we fail to meet recruitment goals? How long can we afford the war; financially secure elitist dont care because money is not an issue to them... bankrupting the goverment only impacts the poor(negatively). Shouldnt the goverment care about its poor or has it already been completely bought off by the corprate world?

Actually, it would interest you to know that there are already about 35,000 non-citizens currently serving in the U.S. military. This has been an ongoing practice by the U.S. military, to recruit non-citizens with the promise of possible citizenship.
