no it turns off, but the electronic rear differential makes it feel as tho there is traction control, and that only activates when one wheel is predominantly spinning and it slows that wheel down by appling brakes on that wheel

That is the traction control. Its a lsd mimiciking braking system. Mercedes didnt allow users to turn it all the way off until the 2008 models came out. That stupid control activates with the slightest hint of wheel spin. All mercedes since my 97 e320 have the same ETC, even the 55's. So if you drive hard, prepare to replace a lot of rear brake pads. On my mercedes I just pull the relay wire to completely shut it down.

Its also called busted Rear end too. You know how heavy that car is? Maybe around 3800 to 4000lbs. If it was me I would stay at the right angle most of the time to not push it too hard.
