1529 Sunday, January 24, 2010 Hey people: I'm gonna tell you a secret: Please listen to "Hold Me" by Fleetwood Mac (1982) and when the chorus arrives you'll discover the "Listen" infectious chord progression! —Long Live The Clash! (( I know other similar secrets. ))
@mrbassman25 When they remastered this song for the 'Super Black Market Clash' CD the producers found the need for whatever reason to edited down the original vinyl 45 inch record of 'Listen'. Perhaps they needed space on the CD and had to cut some of the end of the song off. Have you heard the vinyl version? If not, try to find a copy. Very rare. I used to have it until it got stolen. There is like 10-15 seconds of the outro of the song that is not included on the CD version on SBMC.
Yeah, this is fuckin a great instrumental song. So raw, infectious and just so fucking rockin. Great progression and then the end Mick Jones solo is so expressive goin off and wailing. Beautiful!
I believe I figured out the begining on bass. It just goes (on the A string) from 11-133-355-577-799-99-911(G string)11-119(A)9-911(G)11-1199 and so forth. kinda hard to explain on here
@track8fodderstompf that was at their first gig supporting the pistols johnny rotten said they 'were'nt very good'. i think a little later they (the pistols) felt a bit threatened by the clash.
Interesting, was wondering which one wrote this great piece of music.
In one of the documentaries Joe tells about them playing this very early and Paul being so nervous he got the entire intro wrong. Not a great start to a gig.
yeh im pretty sure it was mick in the same documentary paulw as talking about how mick used to tell him wat notes to play and wen him and mick wud be fighting joes wud be walking back ard forward between them getting the notes off mick and telling them to paul hahahaha!

May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this fine instrumental.

This was on the NME single with Capitol Radio
Great instrumental
Their lyrics were really powerful, but this proves that their music was just as powerful, original version or not
basszant 2 years ago
This is however, not the full original single version of the song.

@pwyndam
'not the full original single version of the song'
I don't think so. Do you have a link to the 'original' one?
JOELchannel7 2 years ago
@pwyndam
there isn't a full original song .... ''we had this instrumental''...
from Joe's very own mouth
