@nomisbehvn : The person in the exploding car was the father of attorney David Abrams, played by Stephen Lang. His father at one time was a bookmaker with nominal mob connections. The bomb was intended for David Abrams after he slighted mobster Ray Luca (Anthony Denison).

away in one episode and move on to another bad guy, like many cop or crime dramas now (CASTLE, LIE TO ME, CSI) and NBC's constant schedule shifting, the great unwashed did not tune in. Today, we see this effect as decent shows like LIFE ON MARS or THE UNUSUALS get cancelled yet trash like JERSEY SHORE is the No.2 watched show in America. Too bad The Situation could not run into a guy like Luca, who would cancel him and his tawdry mates just on principle.

The show also showed the frustrations of agents in trying to get a case to stick to Luca, based on the FBI's futile efforts to bring down Outfit boss Tony "Big Tuna" Accardo and NY boss Carlo Gambino. Mann and Adamson tried to bring slices of the real mob (not the glam version of THE GODFATHER OR THE SOPRANOS) and why the dice roll the way they do; how and why a Ray Luca or Max Goldman can rise up from the streets and attain great power, legal and illegal. But, because Torello could not put Luca

CS had multiple storylines and arcs and unfortunately, the great unwashed want an issue wrapped up in one show and on to the next. The reason The Sopranos did better was because it was on HBO and could be "streeted up" via profanity and sex but it also was more of a soap opera or melodrama whereas CS was a true crime drama, which delved into issues like the changing of the guard when Luca kills Bartoli or Luca's alliance w/the military (based on Chicago mobster Jon Roselli's work w/CIA).

To someone who said the show was cancelled, it was my understanding it was only intended to run two years. As for the finale, the season one finale was the a-bomb. The season two was the end of all of them.

In the final scene, when this wonderful show ended, wasn't Ray Luca driving away from the camera (like in the desert away from Las Vegas)?  What was the song that was playing; opening line was "I'm just a bad boy...", then some atomic freaking bomb went off...wierd ending, great show.

This series was way ahead of its time. Michael Mann has done many great things such as the series Miami Vice, I even like his Movie Miami Vice. He also did Collateral, which was awesome.

You're right i used to love this show just the cinematography used and the theme music not to mention the acting. All round brilliant made me want to go to Vegas as a kid lol. Michael Mann went on to do good things after such as the movie "Heat".
