  • This is a misleading title. Yes, there were Jewish performers in Hollywood. But there were plenty of Gentile performers who worked hard for the Jewish moguls and made Hollywood great. Many were Irish, like William Powell and Myrna Loy. Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney were Scots-Irish. Maurice Chevalier was French. Greer Garson & Cary Grant were British. Marlene Dietrich, German. Garbo & Bergman, Swedish. Where are they mentioned/

  • Learn from the Jews how to survive and reinvent. Espicially in these tough times. Great people.

  • Eddie Cantor was Eddie Cantor years before he went to Hollywood -- before there was even talkies. Same goes for Sylvia Sidney -- in fact, her mother (not an actress) called herself Sidney first. I know this is nitpicking, but it seems like there's a bit of deliberate vagueness going on in this documentary.

  • This has been an interesting documentary. However, there was a big contadiction in this segment. Until then, the film kept making the point of how Jews were using Jewish themes in their films, songs, etc. In this segment, we're told the studio heads stripped themselves -- and their films -- of Jewishness. I never bought the first idea of the injection of Jewish themes in their films. Instead, the themes in their films were those their customers would relate to.

  • This isn't a show about the history of Hollywood. It should be titled The History of Jews in Hollywood. There are other elements that weren't touched upon.

  • At 3:11 one of the funniest dance/comedy moment I ever seen.

  • @hephaistos999 isn't it fucking crazy that someone danced on film like that back then.

  • lulz....east coast v.s. westcoast

  • whys everyones attention span dead by this part.. Oh yea Americans Sorry, So its not American Idol. The truth is so boring right? If its not a 5 second sound bite you move on. And im an american, not really though I don't label myself as such. Just saying im not jewish or american and still paid attention to learn to better myself and humanity. 159 others thanks for sticking with me.

  • Don't allow for them to program self-hate into you or any American! There's plenty of evidence, even on my "insight" radar, that there's a HUGE amount of people in the US and Canada, Central and Eastern Europe and Australia waking up to the truths of politics and economy and the ideologies around them. Be patient and remember the "hundred monkey effect", we don't need everyone to understand the truth!

  • @TRUTHBETOLD10 I agree 100 percent. So many people are oblivious to American history. Yet they are the first to run their mouths about what they think they know. I too am not Jewish. Im Creole, black/french/latin. And thank God i have a grandmother who is a history teacher for a college university. She drilled us about the history of people & understanding it. And judging from only 706 views here, we have a long way to go

  • Does anyone know what year this was made?

  • Doc was made by Canadian jewish filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici (born 1953) under the original title: Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies & the American Dream in the year 1998.
