Finn independence wasn't in stake at all. It was only the territorial claims. Consider that after Mnnerhaim Line got broken then soviet tanks may go unopposed over all Finnland but they didn't. Why you ask? Because Finn goverment agreed on all soviet terms quiclkly at that moment. So that was it. Soviet gomenet got satisfied and war stopped.

It all began in 1918. Finnland got independence from RE but forced the border at surburban of Leningrad on soviet goverment of that time. Finns refused and war began. Finns lost it and the border was redrawn as it is today. End of story.
15 years ago the exact casualties number was publicised in Russia. Its about 85000 irrevesible causalties (means kia and died in hospitals). It is official based on the casualty reports filed by commanding officers to head quaters. So if take it against 25000 of officail finn casualties thne kill ratio is 1:3. Big enough but consider that soviet troops went against Mahherhaim Line and broke it.

He had a few choice comments. He said the Russian leaders were idiots. They were sent down narrow roads lined by forests. Their trucks were only 38 hp and were totally unreliable. He said the Finns were fanatics and snipers tied themselves up in trees. He had a lot of respect for the Finns. He admitted they got their asses kicked.

Here's a major explanation why many Finns are suspicious of Russians. A totally unprovoked attack against a small, democratic country that was no threat to anyone. Finn independence wasn't in stake at all. It was only the territorial claims. Consider that after Mnnerhaim Line got broken then soviet tanks may go unopposed over all Finnland but they didn't. Why you ask? Because Finn goverment agreed on all soviet terms quiclkly at that moment. So that was it. Soviet gomenet got satisfied and war stopped.

The British and French were threatening to come to the aid of Finland if Stalin went ahead with the Sovietization of Finland, which would've threatened Hitler's plan for Scandinavia. It all began in 1918. Finnland got independence from RE but forced the border at surburban of Leningrad on soviet goverment of that time. There were Civil war in Russia so soviet goverment let it go for sometime. When Soviets become stronger under Stalin then eventually decided to get it back and move border away from Leningrad. Finns refused and war began. Finns lost it and the border was redrawn as it is today. End of story.

It is official based on the casualty reports filed by commanding officers to head quaters. So if take it against 25000 of officail finn casualties thne kill ratio is 1:3. I talked to an old Russian guy who fought in winter war - Petr Somethingovich... This was back in mid 90s so he is long gone by now.
He had a few choice comments. He said the Russian leaders were idiots. They were sent down narrow roads lined by forests. Their trucks were only 38 hp and were totally unreliable. Russia is a great nation lacking proper guidance.

Here's a major explanation why many Finns are suspicious of Russians. A totally unprovoked attack against a small, democratic country that was no threat to anyone. That's what Russia stands for, killing innocent people and invading countries that are neutral and want to live in peace. That's what Russia's history is all about. The Russians plundered and stole vast areas of our land and murdered so many people. It will never be forgetten, that's for sure.
