  • I want to make babies with you :)

  • I think I'll never shoot a ghost with these on :'(

  • jamie - I'm having some trouble getting enough AA batteries to power up the flux generator. Will let you know once I've reduced the capacitance feedback.

  • photoshop

  • who else can see the reflection in all positions?

  • haha magic!

  • if you look at a lap top or hd tv set with this it will turn completely black.

  • I LOVE my CPOL lens filter! I never leave the house w/o it...although now I bought a new lens and it's bigger so now I need to find a bigger cpol filter since the old one doesn't fit anymore:(

  • @toocoolforu simple physics? think you will find it is acutally quantum physics that explains this. looking at light as wave not particles bla bla,

  • @dombower Oops - quantum physics looks at light as particles, not waves :) It's wave nature that polarising filters make use of. Anyway, more useful and interesting than toocoolforu's inane criticism.

  • @alheeley i thought quantum means looking at light being 2 things at once, ie the double split experiment. light is both a particle and a wave

  • @dombower not exactly. Quantum mechanics deals with light being transported in quantized (they have specific amounts of energy otherwise they interfere with themselves and can't exist) packets of waves called quanta, or photons. In some cases these packets can behave like particles.

  • @dombower the photons (light/electromagnetic waves, what we see, if u will) get a polarization, when being reflected on something like your car, that differs from the light that comes to your eye (or camera sensor) "straight from the objects".. this has to do with the properties of the reflecting surface and the physics involved in this phenomenon (reflection of electromagnetic waves)

So what the Filter u have does is basically filter (duh..xD) waves with such polarization.

  • @dombower the "rotation it" part is because this polarizations im talking about wont always come perpendicular or horizontal or whatever... so the filter has got all of them in a "circular fashion", if u will, and u just turn it around until u match the filter and the wave polarization u are trying to stop the camera from sensing...

Just like focusing (bad english.. i know) a regular camera :)

  • @Firgu i meant "rotating it", sry

  • @dombower watch?v=rbx3K1xBxVU there u have somewhat of an explanation :D

  • @alheeley So how does the quantum leap accelerator work?

  • @dombower you can simplify it. it's simple then. enough for normal people. don't get me wrong, i love quantum physics.

  • @toocoolforu Simple physics tell me you're an attention seeking arsehole.

  • ive got polarized glasses

  • @KeijinShiho sorry but magic sound closer to me

  • He made it disappear! He's a witch!

  • it doesnt completely go away but we get the point lol

  • If you would like to know the real reason. Light hits the filter from many angles. What the filter aims to do is remove sources of light that are not wanted ie the reflections that dont need to be displayed. The reason polarisation works in increasing saturation in landscapes is the fact that atmosphere scatters light and the use of this filter will diminish the scatter and allow only the intended sources of light to hit the lens.

  • It's also useful for landscape photos! It makes the colors look better!

  • Ahahah magic ! good one XD

  • I also use a circular polarizing filter, and its just amazing the things that little expensive thing can do. If you use it for car photography it WILL do wonders, I advise anybody who is at least a bit interested in photography to purchage at least one. Nice vid Dom!

  • LOOK AT your LCD TV "on mode" with the pola

    Thats magic !!!

  • i still see it

  • Circular polarizers are also great for seaside-pondside shots as they block reflections that wash the water flat. The deeper water colors come through beautifully. Also great for bright sunny cloud shots as the cloud definitions are enhanced.

  • is this not called a fisheye?

  • @Noodle930

light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which consists of electromagnetic WAVES. It is possible to measure the wavelength of light, therefore, to have a wave length, you must have a wave.

  • @satp100geforce wrong

  • @dombower

    @satp100geforce

Oh my lol, and he called you the noob?

The'se aint a pair of sunglasses buddy.

Great little video to introduce people to polarizers

Use mine all the time. Keep up the good work, alas you will never escape people like that.

  • @D3Nikonian thanks man. never escape but i can block idiots...

  • @D3Nikonian hey ur right !!!! or just plz people LIKE-THAT , even if there is something wrong u can just say it in a polite manner !!! :)

  • @dombower lmmfao ... He called you a noob Dom ... Some people just shouldn't be allowed to hold camera's let alone watch reviews or tutorials about photography ... Keep up the good work Dom, you are an inspiration ...

  • @satp100geforce

    wrong you fucking noob

  • @satp100geforce if it is like you claim, they wouldn´t do a shit on a camera. i mean you cant tilt it when its on the lens.

  • @satp100geforce turning it polerizes more learn befor u say

  • @satp100geforce looooool you dont know shit

  • @satp100geforce hahaha u know nothing!

  • @satp100geforce stick to your no-name point and shoot potato.

  • THERES ANOTHER VUVULEZLA SOUND EFFECT HERE

  • That is THE BEST explanation I have seen of what a Polarizer does. Keep it up!

  • how much? where to get?

  • Gotta love filters. They are quite expensive but worth eliminating obstructions like glare, and flat clouds before processing in photoshop.

  • light waves bouncing off a flat surface are polarized, i.e. travel by vibrating in only one direction. A polarizer will not let polarized light pass through, provided the polarizer is aligned with the light wave. Anyway, you've found a nice example and indeed, you make it look like magic!

  • @bourrafon "Light wave" ? Light is not a wave ;)

  • @Noodle930 but it does come in frequencies like a sin wave ... kinda like a wave

  • @dombower Sort of, yes.

  • @Noodle930 wave particle duality theory, so you are both right. Truth be told, no one really knows.

  • Hahhaha I think it's magic too

  • what else can it do?

  • help saturate sky colours, and also lower the exposure by about 2 stops if you are wanting a slower shuttterspeed

  • makes sense

    thnx :D

  • A good pasta sauce, perhaps. =D

  • use it to take pictures of water and stuff. think of it like your sunglasses which should be polarized for less reflection. like fishermen the use polarized glasses so they can see the water.

  • I love my polarizing filters...I use it for all my landscape and some architecture shooting.

  • Magic ! lol

  • Comment removed

  • Im new but i do know that you NEED a filter on a lense.

  • you should do a more official video w/ one of these? Or more of those filters... I use none atm, but there are all kinds of filters, etc that seem to do pretty neat things.

  • How? it's magic... lol! Funny stuff.

  • Could you recommend any specific polarizer filters? I use no filters at the moment and would like a polarizer for my new Sigma 10-20.

  • a filter to cover that size of lens (ie its a 77mm diameter) would be very expensive. you would also very likly have an obvious black ring round the outside of the image. To best avoid that you would have to get a very good pro Circular Polarisor but that would be well into the 100s of pounds

  • Great video as always. Thanks for posting!

  • is that a swift??!! ur car??!!

  • what happens is the filter is "polarized". so it only lets light waves come in at one angle instead of at all different angles. so the light coming from the outside tree comes through but he light from the paper gets blocked.

another trick is holding it up to a lcd monitor it will completely go black because light comes out in one direction(from a lcd)

    nice vid

    jani

  • Thats a pretty neat magic trick there Dom. I have to get all new filters now that I bought an 18-200mm lens. Looks like I'll have to add this one to my cart.
