Unfortunately the water in Barton Springs hasn't looked like that since the mid 1990's. (no wonder we don't see eels there anymore !)That movie _The Unforeseen_ explains what has happened to the water since then, it is highly recommended.
I use to live there and I miss the Springs. Thanks to you and a lot of other people, the memories are back. Thank you for posting it. It is a great place just to go to have fun or relax.
This is WAY old, I snorkel there occasionally and the underwater foliage is covered with sediment. Still plenty of fish. If only this video reflected the current condition. The pool needs to be cleaned of all the muck. Watch out for below the pool, there are thieves that steal wallets and purses.
This is really good. Thanks for posting it. I love swimming there. What's amazing is how it looks totally natural, when it's a swimming pool! Half natural and half man-made, it's the closest thing we Austinites have to skin-diving potential. Plus being spring-fed and open all year round makes it very special.
Just saw Unforeseen. They explain why this footage is so much clearer than my own. Development upstream of the Springs has turned it murky and raised the level of chemicals in the water.
same here. even the crawdads gave me the creeps when i visited. i didnt want to put me foot down on't floor. if id have seen one of those eels i would have thought it was a snake and never got in again.
Beautiful! I still need to see 'The Unforeseen', by Laura Dunn. A documentary about the development around Barton Springs in Austin, Texas, and nature's unexpected response to being threatened by human interference.

Your underwater footage is much clearer than mine. Did you shoot it early in the day before people stirred up the muck?
