@BojikArc They run away, no matter how much room you have, escape artists. Anywhere near a busy street they WILL get run over. Somewhere I read 85% of shibas die in traffic. I lost one, ran over her myself when someone left the gate unlatched. Going for a walk anywhere, you can never let them off leash, and if you fumble the leash even, gone! I never would have bought one, I inherited two.
@BojikArc Shibas get a bad rep in the training department (they're so smart, they usually just blow you off). The trick is to make sure they know something's in it for them. My shiba will do anything for a bit of an apple (I know, wierd, but it works). For excercise, a brisk walk will do. They are actually very good apartment dogs, or so I hear, since I live in a house. For more info on the Siba go to 'The Misanthropic Shiba' page and read all about these wonderful little demons!
oh god I had a similar experience happen to me . I have a female Shiba Inu named Babie, and today a duck landed in our pool. You can only imagine what was going through my head. I thought for sure she was going to jump in and tear that duck to shreds, even though she dislikes water... but luckily for the duck it saw the danger and flew away lol.
I want a Shiba soooooo bad....but I don't think I have enough room outside to give it the needed exercise.
I also don't think I'm experienced enough yet to handle one...I've only owned golden retrievers and German shepherds.
I don't want to own a Shiba until I know I can take good care of it and be a firm, loving handler.

@zootybeano Not really true. I have a Shiba, she can be of lease and will always stay in sight. Never had a problem.

Wonderful -- love the way the tail shakes independently of the body.
