  • if i have been using a Fender Champion 600 and I bought a Laney Cub 12 stack, would I be happier with the sound quality? I love playing Pink Floyd and Gary Moore.

  • @paulgaudinjrBCN

Depends on what tones your looking for obviously but the Laney is a bigger amp with more wattage and headroom so I think you'll get more out of it than the 600. The Laney goes nicely with most musical styles.

  • I have decide to buy laney cub 12, BUT don't know should I buy head and cabinet or the combo?

Is the head/cab too loud for bedroom playing? And is the combo (cub 12r) loud enough for small gigs? Or is there difference at all? I really dont know much of these :)

I hope you got any sense of my question :)

  • @Tsjouel

I'd buy the stack. The combo doesn't have as much headroom. The stack works nicely for bedrooms and studio/rehearsal but you'd need to mic it on stage, as you normally would. Check out the Fender Blues Jr for something similar and slightly louder.

  • Wow man. There's no enough words describing amazing job you are doing on Gilmourish website showing gear and taking apart everything, true tone freak would want.

You playing is exquisite also. Thanks my friend and keep rocking.

  • yo bjorn,

which is the best bridge pickup to get the pompeii echoes sound?

    greetings,

    tim

  • @Letes92

David used late 60 models at the time so the Fender CS69 I guess.

  • Sorry for being such a nuisance: are you saying that you set the amp's volume knob to 10 and that it is a low volume? I am very interested in your musket demo. I also have the musket, but I never get it to sound as bright as it does on your demo and I figured it was due to the low volumes (say 10 o'clock) I normally use. In my case (I also have a laney cub head) the musket sounds a bit too dark, smooth, but way darker and muddier than in your demo.

  • @DarthG0m3zzz

I thought you were talking about the guitar volume knob. No, the amp volume is set to about 12:00 (50%) and the gain at 8:00 (10%). You need to set the Musket focus at 100% and the mids at 1:00.

  • @BjornRiis Thanks!!! I have also been mostly using the <1W input...maybe that has an effect... but I will try out your suggestions. (fyi, I have a SSL-5 on the bridge)

    Thanks again!!!

  • gotta love the glassy tone

  • Shine on...super playing great tone, would love to hear you do some with backing. Keep it up;-)

  • Nice playing... lovely sound! My only complaint would be the pickup switch being too early on Coming Back To Life lol.

  • Nice Playing e ans really cool sounds!

How do you consider Laney Cub reacting about external distortions(rock-metal pedals)?

    Bye man!

  • @TheGuitarisT1701 its actualy very good, and for a 15w amp it unusualy has an effect loop. you can get pretty decent hard rock tones without them as it as it has 3 preamp tubes as well as a master volume means you can dime it , plus having the .75w side, its bedroom friendly. but personaly i never use any more than a oc44 rangemaster clone and my wah in the front, but my big muff pi was great driving the head when i tried. i couldnt say anything about boss as i dont use them.

  • Zepp sound amp have it at home buy it if you love zepp's :D

  • I was wondering what were chocking me with your strat, it's the rosewood fingerboard x). Your gear is cool and your play is very nice (i'm found of pink floyd)

  • What do you think about the reverb? is it spring or digital? Is the Efx Loop good also?

    Thanks!! Good playing!!

  • @lberretta

The reverb is digital. The loop seems to work nicely without any noise or signal loss.

  • @BjornRiis

Without a doubt - yours and Kit's - best DG sites on the web, KUDO's!!! For me, so much usefull information.

Your playing is fantastic... all the pedals in the world will not achieve DG's tone without the timeless study of his technique and, my favorite thing about David, his unique brand of "efficiency". Love the non-compressed wide-open tone. This has been my issue with clean practice amps recently - Thanks

  • @jckas1968

    Thanks!

  • hi Bjorn is it good also for gigging 200 seat venues?

  • @drystef

I guess it would be too little to give you any volume on stage but you'd mic it anyway and with a front monitor it would be more than enough.

  • @BjornRiis Great sound, and great playing!

I have a question though. I know you talk about the tube amps need some volume to make the pedals sound better. How loud, and which watt setting were you using on this video/other videos with this amp.

    Thanks so much :D

  • great shine on you crazy diamond there BTW :)

  • good amp for gilmour sounds?

  • @Nimrod9458

I was hoping this clip would shed some light on just that :)

  • @BjornRiis haha good cuz i just decided to buy my first tube amp!! :D

  • hey, do you think this would be a nice amp to play stuff like earthless, radio moscow and some more stoner-ish ?

have you matched it boost pedals and fuzzes ?

the fx loop is nice ?

    hope you can help me

    thank you

  • how loud is this???

  • Nice playing & tone.. What input on the cub are you using, I am assuming the < 1watt and how do you find the amp for clean headroom?

  • @mrthorbs

For this clip I'm using the 15w input. The amp has lots of headroom.

  • @BjornRiis Hey man. Thanks, I am seriously considering buying one of these. Do you think the amp is loud enough for small gigs with out being miked? and did you get the chance to compare this to the combo version?

  • Wich level are Volume and Tone guitar s knobs?? I have always difficutly to set VOlume and TOne Knobs ... it s a mystery for me.

    Ram

  • @CarlTrec

I mainly keep the tone controls at 10 and the volume around 9-10 depending on the tone I want. Most solos are 10 while I like to roll down to 9 for a smoother tone for cleans and some overdrives.

  • @BjornRiis Hi Bjorn, thanks for posting these great demos. Are you saying here 9-10 o'clock or the actual numbers in the knobs? On your blog you mentioned you changed the tubes to JJs, did you use 12ax7? Did you also changed the power tubes?

    Cheers

  • @DarthG0m3zzz

10 is 100% - the actual number on the knob. I changed all tubes for JJs. The preamp tubes are 12AX7.

  • @BjornRiis Thanks!!! and wow that's some pretty loud volume no wonder I don't get the same results (aside from the obvious lack of skills on my side). How come you don't get some clipping on your recording? Thanks again.

  • @DarthG0m3zzz

The amp is set very low and I've adjusted the input volume on the computer. On the recent clips I've mic'ed the cab for a more professional recording.

  • That strings are really fat! What gauge do they have. They looks like 13-56, LOL!

  • that strat reminds me the dark side period

  • It just feels great when you instantly feel what certain version you are playing!!!

    Just great playing!!!

  • Great!!! ;D

  • I always Love Watching and Listening BR I learn so much.. Thanks Man !

Ya need to Make a DVD..

  • what is this neck?

    warmouth?

  • @TheElmore95

Fender CIJ '65 reissue with binding.

  • @BjornRiis thank you

  • @BjornRiis

I don't like that neck on a Black Strat:(

  • Is bindings on the neck of the strat ?

    Incredible tone as always !

  • @GuitarSindre

    Yes, it's got binding. It's a CIJ '65 reissue. Wonderful axe :)

  • @BjornRiis Nice ! Den ser helt fantastisk ut ! og den låter helt utrolig !

  • Very nice, thanks for sharin!

  • Ahhh Bjørn, you switched to bridge pickup too early :)

Good sounding amp it seems. I'd like to hear it with some heavier distortion as well :)

  • Great job. Always impressed by how well you get both the technical and the FEEL of it so well.

  • wow, a black strat with a rosewood fretboard looks nice, i prefer maple though :P

  • @drowzy721 he just swithched the pick up set up from his maple to his 65 rosewood for that pure 70s blackstrat look.

  • nice sounding amp.

  • Very nice! ;)
