And don't forget to use the free service from the antilosta website to tag all your valuable possessions like credit cards, passport, camera, phone, laptop etc. Thanks to my little antilosta tag I got my lost wallet with all my credit cards back one day after it was lost while travelling.

I'm sooooo glad that a friend forwarded me advice from her sister: book all your accommodations before you leave. I couldn't imagine arriving in a city at night and have to start looking for any place to stay. I booked all of my hostel stays before leaving, printed out their names, addresses and phone numbers so that locals could help me get there. A Berlin couple even got on their cell phone and called the hostel because they couldn't find the street on a map! How nice of them!
