That's because a murderous, militaristic and fanatical society can produce extremely effective combat soldiers in large numbers, a liberal democracy struggles to do this, not rocket science.

I think in the post-Max Hastings world of History books no-one would doubt that the Wehrmacht was the best fighting force of WW2, but that doesn't mean that this series is inaccurate, it simply tells one part of an enormous story.

I like books too. But that aside, do take a few minutes if you have them, to go through this series for inaccuracies, and see how it compares to other depictions of WW2 on the big or small screen, because I think BoB compares very favourably, and is a faithful representation (usually) of well-collected primary source material.
