    its a simple song

  • 2:00 2:01 bull-SHIT!

  • Comment removed

  • RoxBox

  • This is actually much easier than I thought it would be.

  • Stupid question, but does anyone know the time signature for the song?

  • @TheSpAaSm it's in 4-4, but don't worry about that too much, it's not exactly a strict time signature

  • @WhoKilledHomer01 Thanks :P

  • am getting there now but finding the diminished c arpeggios with 4 notes quite tricky compared with 3 notes,

  • great videos samual, very very helpful to actually see it played with tut help.you should be a piano instructer, oh your window sill could do with a wipe, just an observation, thanx for your helpful vids,

  • many thanks my good men!

  • which piano you are using the video?

  • GRRR ive got the whole first section of this song perfect even tht first high bit of the solo but i can't get the big arpeggio bit...oh well practice and practice again i guess.

  • where did Bellamy find those chords?? D:

  • Comment removed

  • "G to the A...i sound like a rap star" lol awesome. U crack me up mate :)

Quick question to anyone - towards the end of this section (7:00), just before you shift the diminished chord up to the C# E and B♭, how certain are you that the base hand is playing a D? I know it creates a nice sort of rumbling clash between the D and C#, but i cant decide between the base hand playing the octave D or a C# to copy the treble hand...

  • ive never played the piano in my life but i learned this in like 10 minutes not the arpeggio part but the other part perfectly...does that make me good

  • im not sure you explain this properly... i feel you rushed the whole "Alternating" section from the start

  • my teacher is a proper pianist. youre supposed to use your 3rd finger for the black keys and your 1st one for the white ones. when you get to E or B, use the second one, & so on. just in case you wanted to know that hah :p

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial!! the only one who explains the chords and notes!!! thank you soooo much, you explain lovely, like a teacher...you're very sweet...!

  • THAAAAANK YOU! I was looking for this for a loooong time! You made my day :) And You did a great job by the way!

  • i made it easily to this part and now im just failing damn....i can't get the arpeggios smooth.

  • Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial!!

I started learning this yesterday and almost acing it today :)

  • thanks you so muuuuch!

I have to practice a lot.

my god, my english is so bad >< sorry, but thanks again D

  • Great tutorial!!! But I am going to kill somebody I am so frustrated!!! I hate having only a 5 octave keyboard, it's too small!! I can't play this song pwoperly because of it!! :(

  • @Mileyrosebloom I know how you feel :( You can't play Space Dementia either! :'( So I feel your pain.

  • @hylia665 Well you can kind of play Space Dementia with a little improvisation. I can't find a tutorial for the verses though so I can only do the intro. xD

  • @Mileyrosebloom I'm not that advanced to improvise (; I've been learning from Muse's old sheet music booklets, which is fun. . .(!) :P I thought Youtubeing Butterflies and Hurricanes would help me, under it a bit more. haha. I wish you the best of luck fellow Muser. :)

  • @hylia665 Haha, neither am I. My 'improvising' is playing the same note in a higher octave. I can't even read sheet music. :( But where did you get Muse's old sheet music booklets, can you buy them? Thanks, and the best of luck to you too. :D

  • Lol show off

  • Lol Yr not a pianist dude u r amazing

  • What is the piano?

  • Not so hard after all.

  • oh my gosh!! this morning, i got out of bed and had the mad desire to learn this song. so i watched this vedeo, copied the notes, found a piano, and learned it. thanks so much!!

  • "A to the G and then to the A ... I sound like a rap star ..." xD

  • Kinda fun watching this in mute.. makes you look crazy moving your hands everywhere.

  • which sound should i use?

  • You're cool.

  • I learned and perfected New Born and Bliss before I played this because i needed to learn how to arpeggio and do that mirror thing. thank god I did because I would DIE if i didnt. my hands would fall off lol.

  • which piano do you have?

  • @milliondolarsfrree i make the same question :p ... i see its just a keyboard conected to the pc.. but i cant figure out the model.

  • this tutorial is very good! thx very much for your work!

  • aw my keyboard is two keys short AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • 1:56 - "Probably, a piani--- A PENIS would tell you to do it a certain way... But, I'm not a proper penis." LOL!

  • Amazing! You're a very good teacher! You just need a wider lens to make it a little easier to see everything! I love this piece of music - and would NEVER have attempted it - I'll have a go though (espeically those lovely arpeggios!

  • Oh Lord. Help me D: this is so intricate... the changing chords and arpeggios... OMG.

  • @Emanizer

Never learn music by the theory of it!

Just learn it by the feel of your hands!

So you don't say to yourself "ok, this bit is apreggio, this is an octave up, etc"

Your hands just know which bit comes next and in what way! :D

  • @Emanizer how you getting on with this piece? :)

  • very well explained thank you

  • Thank u so much! this is was very helpfully for me! thanks a lot! ^^

  • Thank u so much! this is was very helpfully for me! thanks a lot! ^^

  • fantastico.....thank you so much

  • are you from devon?

  • @GreenishGoblin This truly made me lol!

  • thanks*

  • you are amazing at this! I think it's mostly your credit that I actually CAN play the song now :) thans!

  • this tutorials great! Where did you get the sheet music though?

  • that was amazing!!!! great job!!!! Unfortunately i could never do that haha

  • thnx dude this is epic

  • OMG, it's actually really easy!!! When i looked at the sheet music i was like WTFFFF!

but its really just a pattern you gotta follow

  • hey where did u find that score for it? i would be really much more comfortable with it than with this video, im a bit confused:)

  • Ahh, i really can't remember where i got it from. I think it was on someones video.

Or what i did was just type it into google chrome and click on of the links there.

    hope this helps

  • thank a lot

  • try this: scribd (dot) com/ doc/ 17693917/ Muse-Butterflies-and-Hurricanes

  • This is one of the easier songs I've had to learn to play, the only part I have left to practice is the virtuoso. lol

  • gran tutorial! pero antes comprese un piano que esto es lo que usaban en la edad de piedra! xD

  • Sam, your a legend mate.

if you ever come to melbourne australia, message me and il buy you a beer.

  • This is gonna take me a while to practise...

    goodness this is hard

  • those arpeggios are ticking me off

I have everything else down, I am going to have to freaking practice!

  • Haha, i'm struggling a bit with em too..i'm fine about 3/4 that speed...but at full pace...argggh!!

  • me too :(

  • shock horror practicing :O

  • ugh, my keyboard is too small to really play this. :[

  • xDDD

  • you just made my life a lot easier XD

  • ahaha lmfao I thought it was a freakin pain to play this song, but it's very eezy peezy

  • arghh my keyvboard only goes up to C so i cant do that that high bit at the start

  • and the low D bit dam my short keyboard

  • Never played piano before in my life.. And instead of learning easy songs, I am skipping right to this. Wish me luck, with enough practice I may be able to get it sounding okay in about a month... or two. D:

  • yeah. right.

  • Aha! Same! :P

  • @Testicularcancr This is a very easy song to play

  • @kw1ksh0t Yeah for people like us with possible natural talent but for those that struggle with piano, it's a fucking hard song to learn though :P

  • @Testicularcancr I'm pretty much in the same situation here... Lets both have a lot of courage!!

  • @Testicularcancr WELL It was a year ago so HOW'D YOU DO!?!? YOU HAD THE LUCK OF 42 THUMBS UP XD

  • @Testicularcancr well its been a year ?

    have you learned it ?

  • @Testicularcancr SAME!

  • i watched this even, though i had no intention of being able to learn this. :)

  • SO HELPFUL THANKS :)))

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU :O

  • THANKS. your work is much appreciated, and in case no one has said it already, you're an excellent pianist and teacher. I taught my girlfriend to play a song once...teaching isn't easy. I can only imagine how much more troublesome this was since you were your own camera man.

  • I love how you talk.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

  • a month? wow i started today and i didnt want to have to take a month to learn it :( haha, im dreading the 'sweeping' part haha!

great video - your the man

  • it's not too bad after a while, yes it is very hard at first but once you've got the hang of it it gets easier. this is a great video :)

  • Gah, when it gets to the big sweeping part...SO difficult.

  • So annoyed i cant play this because my keyboard doesn't have enough notes!

  • same with mine, hate it

  • thank you very much! great work!

very good explaned! I thought I would never learn that piano solo!

  • thank you

  • I never subscribe to anything...but because you took the time to teach us this...I subscribed..

  • you should try learning proper pieces and stuff (you said you werent a proper pianist,) you would make an AWESOME pianist

  • Thanks very very much, I was trying to play this song since months, and this video helped me very much, I learnt things that I would never have learnt without this video, thank you, and, that's a very nice song ;)

  • this must be the hardest piano solo ever right? I have been trying to get it right for a month and I still cant make it :(

  • not even close lol

  • what type of piano is that

  • M-Audio prokeys 88sx.

  • haha i know what you mean with the solo.

i was trying to to that technique with bliss. it's really hard.

  • I just started playing Piano about 3 months ago.. i played the first 2 arpeggios by sound but one of the chords totally stumped me >.> you made it pretty easy to understand - thanks man this song is so much fun to play :D even though im only learning the solo

  • hey hombre do u noe where i can get a music sheet for this?

  • Thanks man, I've just started practicing this and it's mad fun!

  • THANK YOUUUU!!!!!!you're the best ^^

Can you made a tuto to learn space demantia? it will be soooo nice :)

  • "...sound like a rap star..."

    LOL.

  • I can't thank you enough for these videos. I previously would have considered this way out of my league, but I'm currently working on the solo (having already got the other parts down) thanks to your solid instruction.

  • nice video really really helped, nice keyboard, what kind is it?

  • This tutorial is AMAZING! I learned it quite easy and it's so funny to be able to play it :D

Hey, why don't you do another tutorial song? :) Would be awesome if you did Space Dementia! Just a suggestion... ;)

  • i can do it but only on the right hand..well i can do the left hand but not the right wayyy...HELP !!

  • THANK YOU... I can't read music and have been playing for 15 years, but just started playing piano again... so I don't know chords or even how to play, but I can learn by ear and watching... this is all I needed..

    Cheers.

  • nice lesson, but some of the notes are wrong e.g.

after chromatic scale the trem is between D and E, not E flat

and one of the left hand chord is D flat not D natural

    Otherwise, very nice

  • I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you lol. The trill is definitely between D and Eb. Definitely. And I think I'm fairly accurate with the bass notes, but I think I mention in the video there are bits I'm not sure with. For example, the C-Eb-Gb-A diminished chord in the solo; I've started playing it without the Gb in it, as there isnt one in the tinkly bit, and I'm not convinced its on the recording, or that he plays it live. I may do a new tutorial or the solo at some point.

  • waaaaah

    too hard for mee

could you upload the version for dumbs??

  • can u write sonme sheet music 4 it plz

  • fuckit too hard i give up

  • Arr, I'm getting hung up on the last part where he said he wasn't sure. It's hard to see what he's playing on his right hand. :P Are both hands playing the same thing, except the 3rd in the chord by the right hand isn't moving?

  • Never mind, I think I got it. By the way, great tutorial again. :)

  • Thanks, you are my hero!

Thanks to you I can play this song now!

    You're amazing!

  • this has been amazing for me thank you! i learnt it in one day but now i need to perfect just like you did! your incredible i've always wanted to play this and now i can thank you very VERY much! keep em comin ;)

  • thanks for taking time out of your day. and for free. its greatly appreciated.

  • Perfect !!!! My greatest wish is to play some Muse songs on piano.. but.. its a long way to go... Grtzzzzz

  • You are my new hero =D

  • thank u very much pal!indeed helpful vdeo!

    ciao cheers from italy!

  • this really helps dude!

    :D

  • you are crazy

  • my keyboard doesnt have enough octaves for this, so i cant get the low octaves

  • :( mine either

  • I swear sometimes when he plays the D major chords going up he ads the 9th (E) at 3:28. And also the part at 4:04, I don't think you come all the way back down because the bottom A in the left hand comes earlier than expected.

  • If you are a pianist, then the part in the solo where u go up in semi-tones will be much easier if you do this as you would do a chromatic scale, rather than just one finger.

  • i love you

    thank you sooooo much!!!

  • perfect! Just add the word 'tutorial' to your tags, i've been looking for something like this quite a while

  • thanks this really helped me :)

i could play most of it, as i got the 'Play Piano with Muse' book, but i couldnt understand some of it and a lot of it didnt sound right, but this really helped.

    Thanks! :D

  • You are a great man.

  • THank you man! You helped me alot!

I tried to make this by ear, and I reached nice levels, but with this video I will perform it better!

    Thank you!

  • do u know any more solo's similar to this (u mentioned vercharoso)

  • He said virtuoso, at least I think he did, which he just means by professional musician solo or something like that, I guess as a joke.

  • hi,will a 61keys keyboard be able to play this? or do i need one with more than 61 keys?

  • probably can just wont be able to hit all the octaves

  • Donwload the background music of this part the link is in the info of my video, I think It will be helpful for you guys, thanks for sharing this...

  • wow. this is really awesome. i wish i was a little better at piano so i could pick this up. i'll keep trying though.

  • "and i sound like a rap star" rofl

  • is that keyboard a yamaha np-30?

  • You are like the coolest person ever. Thanks so much for doing this!

  • How much would I have to pay you to get some piano sessions? :D

  • Thank you!

  • "I sound like a rap star" hahaha

  • you are a great help to me thankyou! ive always wanted to learn this muse song, for bout 5 years ive always wonderered the glissando scale matt uses, thankyou!

  • when you play the beggining of the solo do you use the pedal??

it sounds weird when i do lol

  • Hey man!

When I searched youtube fot a tutorial on the solo I never expected to find something this good. Thank you sooo much! You deserve some kind of reward/award for your time and effort you put into this. You've helped out a lot of people including myself. Thanks again!!

  • ur da best!

  • you are a pianist. I dunno where you got that sentence from "i am not a proper pianist" your naming minor diminished 7th chords and YOU CAN PLAY THAT!!!!!!!!! thxs alot for posting these vids came into school at the end of half term and played it they were all amazed that id learnt it that fast over about few days. thxs again and i will look at more of your vids so look out for my comments!!!

  • thanks to this, ik can now play the solo 8D

  • Very good vid. I play piano myself and I'm trying to learn some muse-songs at the moment... You explain the stuff very well in the start, but then you go fury on the piano and don't get time to explain the chords properly. I mean, like you did with the c-minor for example. That was good, I mean... it's no problem to me to get the sense of the chords, but for others it can be hard to figure out, which buttons, you press.

    Just a future advice. :)

Else I got nothing to say but; You rule :)

  • you're right, but tbh if you don't know what a c minor is why would u attempt to learn this! haha

  • I don't play piano much at all, don't know any chords and i'm doing alright

  • these videos are a lot of help many thanks. Keep up the good work
