  • Mine is the coyote brown and came with strap cutter

  • I just bought this knife about a couple of hours ago, simply because of the fact of the possibility for the spear capability, while I carry another knife in my hip, the blade is good on this knife, mine cut the packaging paper product and so e printer paper right out of the packaging, not a fan of gerber but this is a decent system

  • its not ASEk version

  • @skinheadsrulz

    uh, yeah it is.

  • @unmotomarine0351 on website and store where u might have purchased the knife dealers put the heading LMF2 ASEK version but according to GERBER knifes and tools only LMF 2 in foliage green which comes with all the accessories is ASEK version .... now thats the catch .... there are 3 version Read my previous comment in it ... its clearly mentioned :) ..... one of my friend got reply from gerber on this topic ...

  • @skinheadsrulz only the asek comes with the strap cutter and in cyoty brown

  • @mudjugXdipper i understand that but asek according to gerber is not Aircrew Survival Egress Knife

its meaning according to gerber is Aviation Support Element, Kaneohe ...

so according to them they only call asek version in foliage green which comes with all accessories read my previous comment its explained there in detail

  • @skinheadsrulz

by IR do you mean IR resistant? or whatever you call it...harder to see with NVG and whatnot.

  • @unmotomarine0351 Yep IR means Infra red resistance Knife handle And sheath but only of foliage green one be it asek version or infantry version ..... for more info you can specifically check out the model number of these different version they all differ from each other ... and yes i cant be seen in IR light or Camera ...

  • @skinheadsrulz yes it is, the only difference between the ASEK and the infantry is that the asek has a strap cutter

  • WHATS THE DIFFERENCE LMF II and the LMF A.S.E.K?

WHY IS ONE WORTH THAN THE OTHER?

  • @fluttering13 difference is that the sheath/straps are fire retardant in the ASEK, 2 straps and it also includes a v-cutter... other than that, the knife is the same. Hope this helps.

  • AWESOME BACKUP KNIFE FOR HUNTING SOME EX SAS GUYS TOLD ME ABOUT THIS KNIFE

  • @demonman74

    carbide.

  • what does asek stand for?can someone fill me in

  • @jarrod1685

    Aircrew survival egress knife

  • @unmotomarine0351 thanks mate

  • oh alright , got it

  • could someone please give some examples of what those 3 holes are doing on a survival knife?

  • @katsieris

for lashing to a stick for a spear?

  • I was thinking about getting this knife. I really liked the specs. However, the one thing that bugged me was that it wasn't a full tang. I went with the Gerber Prodigy. Same exact blade and almost identical handle, just full tang. I really liked you review. Some are shit here on youtube.

  • @FmasterJG

    thanks for the kind words.

there is actually a reason for it not being full tang, and that is to aid in shock absorption when using the knife for hammering or pounding, as well from conducting an electrical charge. do some googling, there was a guy in either iraq or afghanistan that used the LMF to cut through a heavy duty electrical wire to cut off electricity in the compound he was at to prevent his team from being seen. there are even pictures of the knife afterwards.

  • really good review

  • @katsieris

    thank you!

  • the fact that its stainless is fail enough for a survival knife. stainless sucks at edge retention and is difficult to sharpen.

my glock field knife cost half as much and is 10x better quality. then again i never considered gerber to be anything but a budget knife company.

  • @yourredcomrade2

i personally really like my SOG Seal Pup right now, but i want to get a benchmade nimravus soon. benchmade is my favorite knife company.

  • @unmotomarine0351 sog knives are win. everyone i ever owned stayed sharp and took a beating.

  • It seems like a great knife but for me it is not a great hikers knife. I'm not big on serrations and I also dont see the need for a "glass breaker" in the bush. However it is great for the people who it was made for (air force). I would look at the BK2 or an esee before this knife.

  • @JamesBerkey

i carry the sog seal pup now for hiking, i had it in the military and its a good lightweight knife.

  • @JamesBerkey

it was made for the army.................special forces to be precise.

  • this is a great knife. own it love it.

  • This knife has been proven to save lives....what more proof do you need to buy this????

  • man i really want one but i dont have $100 so i have to wait also if i buy this im going to buy the gerber mashete jr best combo ever

  • @theUFFproductions You can find it for less than 80 bucks online. Or the little brother of this knife, the "Prodigy" model. You can get it for less than 50 USD online as well.

  • whats the difference between the lmf 2 asek and infantry models?

  • @MrHappypelican Not the same material: 12C27 for this one and 420HC for the Infantry model.

  • @MrHappypelican the asek comes with the stap cutter and the sheath for the stap cutter, the infantry does not, and i think you can get the infantry without serations

  • I found it too heavy to even consider using.

  • @envirosponsible

i put in on my day pack when i had it. i have since sold it. i carry the seal pup on my armor now.

  • @envirosponsible I guess thats because you are a limp wristed sissy girl

  • @den9

I reckon...pretty sure he has put the same comment on all the LMF II knife reveiws.

  • I find that the retention built into the sheath is strong enough that I don't use either strap on mine, but I did't CUT THEM OFF!!! All you have to do is wrap the straps backward around the inside of the belt loop and snap 'em down. They're outta the way and if I ever change my mind, or need more retention, they're still right where I need 'em!

  • @jeepnicc

i kept the top one, i just knew i wouldnt ever use the second one. it reduces weight too! lol.

  • @unmotomarine0351 Reduces weight. LOL! That's awesome.

  • Watch this series if you think this knife isn't tough as hell! Gerber LMF II ASEK Destruction Test Part 1

  • I've got the same knife minus the Cutter. Mine has a completely different leg strap than yours does. Also I find the sharpener in the sheath is difficult to use and doesn't really work that well.

  • Made in USA ?

  • @urkingod I think all Gerber knives are made in China.

  • @88Azazel wrong made in Portland Oregon USA

  • @pooinyourass You're right I was wrong. This knife is made in Portland. I did a little research on the interwebs and it seems that there are still a few Gerbers that are made in the US however the majority of their knives are made in Taiwan.

  • @88Azazel yes it also has a life time warranty i believe, i cant wait till i get mine :D

  • @pooinyourass What color did you get your in?

  • @88Azazel exact same as the one in the vid lol
