Robots have become advanced enough to learn on their own. Soon, we may be able to play football with robots! Imagine... The Yankees V.S. The Bolters (Robots) Who wins? Well, at this point, robots aren't dexterious enough to catch a ball very well, especially a fast one, but this proves that we are getting very close. Also, I wonder if since robots are self learning, they actually have LIFE. By that, I mean that they actually control their actions, and have some sort of emotion, so to speak.
I find it scary that they talk to the robot as if it is a child learning, fair enough that you would automatically feel the need to. But it has no emotion, it doesn't need compliments...
I wish i was paid salary to fuck with shit like this!.....I mean mess with stuff like this ill never get anywhere in life if i keep swearing druing job interviews.
Are these autonomous? I dont know if that's the right word. I mean, are their movements remote-controlled by someone off-camera with a joystick? Or are they moving on their own?
Not only is Monty autonomous, but Monty also LEARNS how to do the things he does (with coaching). Trevor programmed it to be able to learn how to do things essentially by trial and error [on Monty's part, and I'm sure sometimes also on Trevor's part :)].
Monty seems to be left handed ... he throws best with left and catches with right (bare handed).
[Hope Trevor doesn't mind me calling him Trevor; Doctor seemed too formal, and Mr. Blackwell conjures Worst-Dressed Lists.
I'd do anything to get to come over and see these robots sometime. Amazing stuff.
I'd love to see any more footage you have of all of your robots.
Obviously, it takes a certain understanding to realize that what you're doing has far greater potential for a truly life-like robot than bots like ASIMO.
But then, if you don't know that ASIMO is named after Isaac, then you have a bit of studying to do before you can understand that.
Trevor has quite a few snippets of both Dexter and Monty, they should appear in the sidebar here. I will be passing by the studio there again, and seeing if Dexter has got the new hopping motion down.
Unfortunately, it does not know. At least, not yet. As the technology improves, it would be nice to get it to play a game of "catch" where the ball is dynamically tracked ... but that's a looooooong way off.
Throwing a ball overhand is actually a pretty complex piece of motion. Monty throws underhand, although I think he _could_ throw overhand. Problem is, I think his shoulder would knock off the head in an overhand throw. Might be interesting to try.
Well, yes. It's funny really, but when you're near these robots .. despite being made of metal and plastic .. they evoke a pretty strong "parent" feeling. It's definitely a bit silly to talk to Monty and Dexter since they can't listen...
ASIMO (not asibo) can only perform pre-programmed steps, and does not handle situations as they happen. Monty and Dexter are pretty unique, as they adapt to situations, learning on-the-fly. Right now, Dexter is actually learning how to walk, more or less in the same way a child has to.
Looks a bit like Monty's arm motion is linked to a motion capture glove that somebody is wearing out-of-frame. The balancing is very very clever though.

Nope. Maybe in a couple years Dexter (the walking robot) might be able to. Dexter can jump now, which is a pretty amazing feat.
