  • aww hes so cute...in a way

  • one day robots will play robot american football and it will be amazing and I will watch.

  • Robots have become advanced enough to learn on their own. Soon, we may be able to play football with robots! Imagine... The Yankees V.S. The Bolters (Robots) Who wins? Well, at this point, robots aren't dexterious enough to catch a ball very well, especially a fast one, but this proves that we are getting very close. Also, I wonder if since robots are self learning, they actually have LIFE. By that, I mean that they actually control their actions, and have some sort of emotion, so to speak.

  • I love how Monty knocks himself silly at the end. Funny stuff.

  • amazing... you guys are ranked next to Gabe Newell.

  • I find it scary that they talk to the robot as if it is a child learning, fair enough that you would automatically feel the need to. But it has no emotion, it doesn't need compliments...

  • I wish i was paid salary to fuck with shit like this!.....I mean mess with stuff like this ill never get anywhere in life if i keep swearing druing job interviews.

  • The Terminator's retarded little brother

  • LMFAO

  • what the dude says makes me think that robots also have feelings

  • he throws worse than a girl lmao.. but in a few years, robots might beable to throw heavy stuff a mile away o_O

  • it is a mentally challenged robot...

  • no, this terminator is "special".

  • lol "special"

  • For some reason I can't stand robotics, but I understand that it's useful research. AI etc.

  • i love robots its my drem job

  • i think they've o9nly got about 6 employies and ther looking ofr more

  • Comment removed

  • well they are only a small company

  • i've got a best friend and hes called monty and we play catch with me - yeah thats really cool,no serously it is

wow have you guys ever heard of tidying up i very dangerous for monty he might trip and smash his computers.i think my rooms got competition

  • well if the guy who steers the arm is behind the camera it loks like the robot is behaving like a human :-)

  • HE WILL KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP

    lol jk, very awesome.

  • he talks to it wow does he have friends...

'I dont need friends ive got robots'

  • nice job

  • haha im so in love with monty ! he/she/it reminds me of a baby. i Lol at when it hits its own head! :D

  • like two years old baby. :)

  • Two year olds are smarter than that.

  • well done. most realistic human analog arms i've seen in action.

  • this reminds me of datas daughter lawl

  • That things gonna have someones eye out

  • or its own head..

    he knocks his self out!!

  • iz dis rreel?

  • Are these autonomous? I dont know if that's the right word. I mean, are their movements remote-controlled by someone off-camera with a joystick? Or are they moving on their own?

  • Not only is Monty autonomous, but Monty also LEARNS how to do the things he does (with coaching). Trevor programmed it to be able to learn how to do things essentially by trial and error [on Monty's part, and I'm sure sometimes also on Trevor's part :)].

Monty seems to be left handed ... he throws best with left and catches with right (bare handed).

[Hope Trevor doesn't mind me calling him Trevor; Doctor seemed too formal, and Mr. Blackwell conjures Worst-Dressed Lists.

  • MORE, dammit! MORE!! I'll never get to try that tasty Matrix Steak and fight the machines with John Conner at this rate.

  • I'd do anything to get to come over and see these robots sometime. Amazing stuff.

I'd love to see any more footage you have of all of your robots.

Obviously, it takes a certain understanding to realize that what you're doing has far greater potential for a truly life-like robot than bots like ASIMO.

But then, if you don't know that ASIMO is named after Isaac, then you have a bit of studying to do before you can understand that.

    I'm humbled.

  • Trevor has quite a few snippets of both Dexter and Monty, they should appear in the sidebar here. I will be passing by the studio there again, and seeing if Dexter has got the new hopping motion down.

  • i like that robot and the dexter one monty is better than asimo at least in my opinion.

making robots like this are one of the many reasons why i want to be an engineer

  • I meant both of them are cooler by this

  • Did he say he hit himself in the head at the end? Spooky...

  • How does it know if it's made a successful throw?

  • Unfortunately, it does not know. At least, not yet. As the technology improves, it would be nice to get it to play a game of "catch" where the ball is dynamically tracked ... but that's a looooooong way off.

  • Sucky bot -- back to the drawing board..

  • I can imagine what robots will be able to do in about a hundred years. Scary.

  • Thats pretty cool. But can he do a backflip on a trampoline?

  • Nope. Maybe in a couple years Dexter (the walking robot) might be able to. Dexter can jump now, which is a pretty amazing feat.

  • monty throws like a little girl

  • Throwing a ball overhand is actually a pretty complex piece of motion. Monty throws underhand, although I think he _could_ throw overhand. Problem is, I think his shoulder would knock off the head in an overhand throw. Might be interesting to try.

  • AHahahahahahaha!!!

    Awesome comment!

  • truly nifty though

  • Isn't talking to a robot silly?

  • Well, yes. It's funny really, but when you're near these robots .. despite being made of metal and plastic .. they evoke a pretty strong "parent" feeling. It's definitely a bit silly to talk to Monty and Dexter since they can't listen...

    ... at least, not yet.

  • ASIBO makes this guy look like a disabled dude..

  • ASIMO (not asibo) can only perform pre-programmed steps, and does not handle situations as they happen. Monty and Dexter are pretty unique, as they adapt to situations, learning on-the-fly. Right now, Dexter is actually learning how to walk, more or less in the same way a child has to.

  • Looks a bit like Monty's arm motion is linked to a motion capture glove that somebody is wearing out-of-frame. The balancing is very very clever though.

  • somehow... creepy.

  • Somehow, because humans are trying to train robots to act like humans. Once they figure that out, robots will try to train humans to act like...

  • that was cute video :) I love monte
