@Reconforce23 But I bet it scared off that particular bear enough that it didnt attack that person. Also if you hit umm in the Chest or in the nose, I betcha it's gonna do an about face and run like hell. Id be comfortable running into a good sized bear with my .40S&W. 14 rounds make one hell of a reason for him to think twice. Unless your in Alaska or Canada a .40S&W or larger will do
TVhyrus. I've seen a 30-06 deflect off of the thick scull of a bear. I highly doubt a .45 acp would do the job. Unless it's a baby haha. You called him on his bluff
I like the vid and I agree with the general direction of the comments. If I were S&W I would slap a 3-4 inch ported barrel on that puppy. With a revolver, I'm not worried about a decrease in velocity negatively impacting on the weapon's action. Also, I would wear that tank driver style. That way it's up front and across the chest. Fuck hip hugger style. Also, thee should be speed loaders in a pouch.
I'm thinking a Maxpedition, rollypolly style pouch with plenty of loaders. If I'm worried about
Bear spray, common sense and or understanding bears would work better than this gun unless were talking about black bears. For protection against people and such .38 special is plenty and the recoil is more manageable.
Hmmm carrying the S&W 500 for protection from bears "MAYBE" can u handle the recoil? Can u aim shoot and hit/kill a charging bear in only a few seconds?....
If your talking surviving the fall of mankind yeah your a idiot agian to carry it.
I've seen these survivals kits. However, even with the mighty .500 Magnum catridge, shot placement is still everything. As the bear charges, it may be very difficult to get off a second shot. This leaves brain and spine cord as the obvious choices for disabling shot placement.
@MrNevermindTheBuzz I've fired a .338 Lapua, its not bad at all. A .30-30 kicks more; the rifles are lighter and generally shoulder fired, as opposed to the heavier and generally rest- or bipod-fired .338 rifles.
Um... call me stupid, but where do you put the box of bullets for the gun? I see no place for bullets, and I assume if you happen to rip this out of your sinking Cessna/canoe you wont be carrying loose rounds in your sock.

I'm calling bullshit on your whole story, pilgrim. Unless the bear you killed happened to be a juvenile black bear, in which case you have absolutely no place to call someone else a pussy.
P.S. If you think a .30-30 lever action, especially as smooth as a Winchester has a significant kick to it, the only thing you should be able to fire is a large frame .22 short revolver, don't try to strain yourself with a .22 lr, don't even try to step up to a 36 grain .22 magnum; Turn in your man card, go ahead and give your boyfriend or your mommy your testise to hold onto in their purse. I would like to see you try to man up behind my .338 Lapua Magnum Blaser Bolt action.
I went bear hunting with 3 friends and was the lucky one who bagged it, and I took it out with my Les Bear 1911 with only 2 shots fired of Hornady hollow points. you better hold it right or it will cut your finger tips off o and that thing can break your wrist and if you think a 30-30 has a heavy recoil don't bother shooting that thing
i just hope if thats your shtf gun, to learn reloading cuz that cart is expensive as hell so when all hell bracks down your not going to find it on the street
That pistol is worthless. Anything out further than 20 ft and you have a better chance throwing it at them. The recoil also causes such a slow refire rate that again...throw it after the first shot. The weapon anyone should have in their oh shit bag is the AR15. Great for hunting as well as self defense. Also...one would be more frightened of an m16 at them than your hand cannon.
Who the fuck would have time to grab for an assault rifle when being attacked? And a bear isn't going to be intimidated by any weapon you pull out numbnuts, rifle or handcannon. "Oh shit a bear wandered into the camp, jump into the tent and grab the fucking carbine rifle emergency kit!" At least the .500 has style.
The purpose of your video is for an "oh shit bag"...oh shit means the world is falling apart and survival becomes the issue! What the fuck would anyone do with the pistol you have? You can't hunt with it. You can't protect yourself with it from any distance further than 15 feet. All in all the gun sucks...I have fired one before and I know. Now...when you upload a video you get comments in return. If you don't like them, turn them off. Don't hate because you got ripped buying junk. Buy an AR15!!
Most places in America don't even allow for regular people to own Assault Rifles you don't know what you're talking about bro. The .500 is loaded with a 700 grain cartridge... and if used properly it can REMOVE your cock. I'd wager I can draw the revolver quicker than you could unsheathe a goddamn AR.
get ready for the recoil its gonna be brutal.. kid both hands and one foot on top of it there is no shame in telling a friend to hold your hands when you do it.. worst than geting bear slap is geting magnum falcon punch right in the face
Number one barrel for the s&W 500 mag is the 18 inch barrel with a compensator for dispersing recoil. Namely because it ends up with half the recoil of 44 mag (popular for its use in "Dirty Harry") and the fact that it can very easily put down a raging bull elephant.
when i was in wyoming hunting when i was taking a piss a bear ran at me from about 40 yards good chance longer not sure how long it is and a pulled out my S&W 500 magnum and even though i could have be killed a stoped and said me smith and wesson arent going to let you kill me then shot him right between the eyes
that pistol is not a 50 caliber a fifty caliber pistol is like the size of that pistol or bigger i dont like shorter barrel pistols that much becuase there not accurate and not as strong as a longer barrel pistol
@mark12130 What most people think of as .50 cal is the commonly used berretta rifle ammunition (most popular sniper rifle for the us military) however that is a pistol .50 cal round.
I think the concept of the kit is really cool, but the problem I see is price of the ammo. To get proficiant at a hand gun it take practice, practice, practice. That ammo is kid of expensive. 44 magnum has allot of power and its cheaper.
Smith and Wesson should put together a similar "Suicide Kit" for retail.
It'd have the same box and same gun, only the oranges would be replaced with blacks. The booklet could have encyclopedic list of people who killed themselves and also include a "helpful hints and tricks" section or something. A pad of paper to scribble a suicide note would be there; a diaper to wear to save on the mess for family members / paramedics; one-time use cell phone to alert ambulance to impending corpse, etc.
@MegaSpongebob94 As doing this could get someone seriously injured by the recoil, there would be nothing funny about this. The gun could snap back and hit someone in the head.
Seems more of a marketing / sales package reinforcing fear of bears and the unknown rather than a practical survival pack? Hardly compact. Is anyone really going to carry a brief case with them on a long camping trip? Would you rather have the gun on your hip or in your brief case if you need it? Great gun tho
Finally pull the gun out at 5mins and 20 secs.. So you spent a majority of the 9:21 seconds being long winded and fumbling around with whistles and space blankets. In the future- How about you pull out the gun, run through the specs, features, operation, your viewpoint on the gun-use the last 2 mins to talk about bears and blankets- you're killin me, edit the deadwood.
@Closeoutracer That's what everybody does for some reason. Nut n' Fancy reviews knives and he spends most of the time talking about the sheaths. I'm like who gives a crap about the sheath? I didn't mind this one though since I actually wanted to know what came in this kit.
I guarantee you'll never use this thing in your life. Your fat, lazy american ass will never be in an emergency situation. when the hell do you think you'll find yourself being hunted by a predatory animal. i know you wish to be in that situation, but it'll never happen. get a grip on reality, douchebag.
@trailrunner733t Can anybody say stereotype?I'm a predatory animal and he would be wise to shoot me with this if I came at him.Of course that's only if I'm feeling like my life is in danger. Why would anybody want to be in a life or death situation, huh? Why the hostility, did a smooth talking american fuck your old lady or something?Douchebag, yep that is what happened I can tell by your choice of words.
they dont sell these guns in 6 inch..... sorry for being an accuracy cop. but you need to get your facts straight. im sorry to say you bought a gun that is only good for one purpose. shooting a bear at very close range in a last ditch effort to save your life. its no good for the range because after 5 shots you will not want to reload and shoot it again. if you bought the 460 you could have loaded 45 colt in it to get practice. which i totally recommend you do even at $2 bucks a shot
@cammike10 they sell in 6.5 inch only in 500 magnum... my bad i was thinking of the 460. the 460 is a 5 inch and the 500 is 6.5 inch. for some reason i was thinking of 460
i dont know what planet you are from...but the 30/30 does not have hardly any recoil. actually its one of the most recoiless cartriges i have ever come across. THATS WHY ITS SO POPULAR. my friends 7 year old can shoot my marlin 336 very nicely. with factory ammo 150 grn federal. you made a statement at 2:28 regarding the kick of a 30/30. this is my response. i personally think these bear kits in 460 and 500 are marketing hype and crazyness. you are much better of buying a 4or 5 inch barrel gun
@teclec .... i guess if you are that recoil sensitive... you should hang with 22's , my 30-30 has very little recoil about 10 lbs. you are just talking out your ass. just to make statements sure all rifles have recoil. a 22 long rifle has about 3 oz of felt recoil. or 1/5 of one pound. a 30-30 has 10 lbs of felt recoil. which is gentle. I shoot big powerful guns.i think you are just a sissy if you actually think a 30-30 has kick. it is perhaps the most manageable 30 cal other than a 30 carbine.
@teclec you are ass to say that i don't think about my statements . it is obvious you are an novice shooter. and it shows by your gun purchases and gun knowledge. you buy a 2 inch 500 magnum. and you telling us the recoil of a 30-30 is heavy. you are a schmuck. a complete moron. do you even realize that the likeliness of a bear attack is so small.only 2-3 people each year die from bears in us. unless you are in Alaska you dont need a 500. buddy you got hosed by clever marketing LOL.
@LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 this guy in the vid is just making a cartridge size comparison, this is not my video, i dont think a 30-30 has alot of kick either, but you know damn well what this guy was trying to say. I get so sick of fuckers and there "if its drown its down" or "you buy the beer ill kill the deer" attitude... i guess in my drunken state your comment set me off, and for that i apologize.
@teclec apology accepted,we all have our own views and sometimes we get on youtube and have words with others when views are crossed. this gun has ridiculous recoil at 2inches. i have a 2 inch 44 magnum revolver and when i put full power 44 cartridges in it my hand is sore the next day after 20 rounds. i can only imagine how bad the recoil is with this gun.
That "Survival Kit" designation is an excuse, just sayin. Ill take my old Mountain Gun Model 29 any day,but it still looks like a good collector's kit.definitly unique for a "Survival Kit"
Holy crap how much was this kit? Your gonna need ear protectors and you better be pretty strong because when you shoot that the barrel will go through your head XD
Nice gun but wouldn't you be a lot better using a 6+" barrel? With 2" S&W says you should never use the bigger rounds (700 gr) with it and the lower MV makes for a weaker less accurate gun. Also if a bear is coming at you and thats in the box, your dead. Load it carry it, forget the other crap in the box. Including that $20 knife you like so much.
It's a 2 3/4 barrel to be exact and although it seems rather frightening if you have a strong wrist and are used to firing heavy weapons, it's not that bad. I can group rounds in 6 inches at 25 yards with this gun. I have also fired 500 grain ammo, but that is expensive so I stick to the lighter stuff.....try it ....you'll like it...
I love that gun and the kit is interesting, better than a simple plastic box and a single brush, the bear has everything to lose, guess who purchase the insurance kit live in ALASKA .
I think the .454 is more practical. You can shoot .45 Long Colts out of them when you're not loading the big rounds for bear country. I guess if I ever had a bear to charge me, I'd prefer the .500. A rifle would be better yet. Now experts from the Fish and Game Foundation are advocating pepper spray. They say it almost always deters Grizzly attacks, and you can deploy it in a wide, sweeping radius so u don't have to worry about marksmanship. To each his own.
@stepheng1483 You delusional, neo-nazis revisionist scum. Stop lying out of your thick skull. In the UK, we have NEVER had the right to bear arms as ordinary citizens like the Americans have in the states. The only citizens who hold legal guns in the UK are Gun shooting clubs, Farmers and perhaps, Gun collectors and the old bill. The only folks who have guns in the UK, apart from the listed groups above are CRIMINAL types. So stop spreading false information, you muppet.
@stepheng1483 If you like America's Gun culture, why don't you move to the USA then? Oh, I forgot, there's 40 million Black Americans & possibly millions of Biracial Americans in the USA and that is not your idea of white paradise on earth, is it?
Exactly. That gun is good for only one thing = the last shot he takes to decide whether he dies or kills the bear that is right in front of him. Plinking will NOT be happening!
one thing i would like to correct you on about the revolver. when u said they have 4 and 6 inch barrels, from what I know they don't do a barrel measure it is the length of the entire gun, there is 4inch 6 inch and 8 inch, what you have there is the 4 inch. I am saying this in no means of being disrespectful. just thought you might like to know :)

that thing is sweet, however the only gun that i would feel completly comfortable with stoping a 1500 pound bear would be a 22 mag. loaded to a tee
bowmaddnneess 8 months ago
I guarantee you'll never use this thing in your life. Your fat, lazy american ass will never be in an emergency situation. when the hell do you think you'll find yourself being hunted by a predatory animal. i know you wish to be in that situation, but it'll never happen. get a grip on reality, douchebag.
trailrunner733t 8 months ago

LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
@LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 they do sell this in 6 inc.
cammike10 8 months ago
@cammike10 they sell in 6.5 inch only in 500 magnum... my bad i was thinking of the 460. the 460 is a 5 inch and the 500 is 6.5 inch. for some reason i was thinking of 460
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
@LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 i stand corrected its 6.5 inch in the 500 mag
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
i dont know what planet you are from...but the 30/30 does not have hardly any recoil. actually its one of the most recoiless cartriges i have ever come across.
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
@LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 My 30-30 has recoil... quit being a tough guy and actually think about your statement, a fucking 22 has a recoil...
teclec 8 months ago
@teclec .... i guess if you are that recoil sensitive... you should hang with 22's , my 30-30 has very little recoil about 10 lbs. you are just talking out your ass. just to make statements sure all rifles have recoil. a 22 long rifle has about 3 oz of felt recoil. or 1/5 of one pound. a 30-30 has 10 lbs of felt recoil. which is gentle. I shoot big powerful guns.i think you are just a sissy if you actually think a 30-30 has kick. it is perhaps the most manageable 30 cal other than a 30 carbine.
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
@teclec you are ass to say that i don't think about my statements . it is obvious you are an novice shooter. and it shows by your gun purchases and gun knowledge. you buy a 2 inch 500 magnum. and you telling us the recoil of a 30-30 is heavy. you are a schmuck. a complete moron. do you even realize that the likeliness of a bear attack is so small.only 2-3 people each year die from bears in us. unless you are in Alaska you dont need a 500. buddy you got hosed by clever marketing LOL.
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
@LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 this guy in the vid is just making a cartridge size comparison, this is not my video, i dont think a 30-30 has alot of kick either, but you know damn well what this guy was trying to say. I get so sick of fuckers and there "if its drown its down" or "you buy the beer ill kill the deer" attitude... i guess in my drunken state your comment set me off, and for that i apologize.
teclec 8 months ago
@teclec apology accepted,we all have our own views and sometimes we get on youtube and have words with others when views are crossed. this gun has ridiculous recoil at 2inches. i have a 2 inch 44 magnum revolver and when i put full power 44 cartridges in it my hand is sore the next day after 20 rounds. i can only imagine how bad the recoil is with this gun.
LUVMAGNUMGUNS2 8 months ago
or you can just use bear mace...much more effective

Flint- no need, just shoot the gun into a pile of dense brush.
Signal Mirror- no need, just shoot the gun in the air.
Whistle- no need, once again, just shoot the gun in the air.
Shit, looks like all you need is the S&W 500 Mag

ebbtuber 10 months ago
Nice gun but wouldn't you be a lot better using a 6+" barrel? With 2" S&W says you should never use the bigger rounds (700 gr) with it and the lower MV makes for a weaker less accurate gun. Also if a bear is coming at you and thats in the box, your dead. Load it carry it, forget the other crap in the box. Including that $20 knife you like so much.
Still a sweet toy though.

.30-.30's have a lot of kick? news to me, it's one of the lightest deer cartridges there is
naby777 10 months ago
It's a 2 3/4 barrel to be exact and although it seems rather frightening if you have a strong wrist and are used to firing heavy weapons, it's not that bad. I can group rounds in 6 inches at 25 yards with this gun. I have also fired 500 grain ammo, but that is expensive so I stick to the lighter stuff.....try it ....you'll like it...
jt8man 10 months ago
I would imagine that round would easily go through a bullet proof vest and probably out the other side

Americans, don't let them take your guns away like they already have here, from Britain.
stepheng1483 1 year ago
@stepheng1483 You delusional, neo-nazis revisionist scum. Stop lying out of your thick skull. In the UK, we have NEVER had the right to bear arms as ordinary citizens like the Americans have in the states. The only citizens who hold legal guns in the UK are Gun shooting clubs, Farmers and perhaps, Gun collectors and the old bill. The only folks who have guns in the UK, apart from the listed groups above are CRIMINAL types. So stop spreading false information, you muppet.
H1MLA 1 year ago
@stepheng1483 If you like America's Gun culture, why don't you move to the USA then? Oh, I forgot, there's 40 million Black Americans & possibly millions of Biracial Americans in the USA and that is not your idea of white paradise on earth, is it?

one thing i would like to correct you on about the revolver. when u said they have 4 and 6 inch barrels, from what I know they don't do a barrel measure it is the length of the entire gun, there is 4inch 6 inch and 8 inch, what you have there is the 4 inch. I am saying this in no means of being disrespectful. just thought you might like to know :)
