@NoeckiBoecki I have a few videos on choosing the right foundation for your skin type. It won't give you the exact answer you're looking for but it will put you on the right track (there's really no way for me to tell you what will work with your body).
@MahouShoujo16 Ready for a REALLY opinionated answer? "Non-comedogenic" doesn't really exist or mean much of anything. As far as I'm concerned it's an advertizing term that's not based in science and it's certainly not regulated by the FDA. To find out whether or not a product will "block" YOUR pores, you're going to have to try it out for yourself. To answer your question though, no these are not listed as non-comodegenic :) Hope that helps! LOL
Very informative. Thank you! I've been using the Studio fix fluid for a couple of years now and always wondered what the others were like in comparison. Subbied :)
Wow, I can't believe you took the time to explain all that but I loved it and super informative.
I have tried the sculpt, mineralize skin finish and studio fix powder and ouabe to say I don't like the mineralize skin finish, but the other two I like a lot. Next I want to try studio fix fluid foundation especially after hearing you like i t:-)
Thanks for the hard work and the excellent review!
Such a great video! Thank you so much :) mac cosmetics are so expensive in denmark, so i really want to have a good feeling about the procucts before i purchase them, so this helped a whole lot! Thank you :)
This is definitely one of the best make up videos I've ever seen on YouTube simply because it was so informative and so much effort was put into it. Thanks a lot!
So I take it you don't love Studio Tech? ;) Since I already own it, what do you find is the best way to apply it? I found the sponge to be too much (and unsanitary, quite frankly)...so I used a little Fix+ with a brush to buff it into the skin. Seems to work pretty well.
@lmak2006 In general I can't stand cream-to-powder finish foundations. Something about it feels very 1990's. I expect this was in Jane Mancini's makeup bag at all times. LOL! Lots of people who like it work with mixing mediums (Fix+ for example). It's a lovely product... you just have to like cream-to-powder finishes :)
Pleeeease reply to this?<3 I am sorry, but Im not pation enough to watch through the whole video, but I feel like something is 'wrong' with me kind of. I have tried sooo many different foundations, but whenever I use a foundation and go to school, then I come home.. I have like these little 'spots' or its very uneven, and I also use primer.. NOTHING works for me.. Ive never tried mac's foundations, so I was wondering.. what do you reccomend for me? Subscribed!
@mangosuit1 I have an intro to MAC foundations that's shorter and two Foundation 101 videos that are shorter as well... check those out and see if they help you. Otherwise there's nothing I could say that isn't said in this video. Best of luck!
Iv been liking for a new foundation from mac for awhile and really wanted to invest in the right one for my skin so this was very helpful thank you :)!
I have a question, my face is very2 oily on t-zone area, slightly dry but oily on the cheek..
I experienced sliding and faded away foundation on the nose and cheek. Because i wear glasses.. My glasses make the foundation slide away (plastic glasses and oily make a great combo for sliding off my makeup)..

The titanium dioxide isn't actually an issue with modern digital photography - and just about every foundation contain titanium dioxde, as it's the main white opacifying pigment used (whiter than eg. Zinc oxide). Just a quick comment, love your videos! :)
Pleaseeee~~ could you recommend me a foundation that would have a dewy finish and medium coverage for combination skin? I am new to foundation and i wanna look as i would have naturally fine skin (for a party)? THANKS ^^
@Fleischlolli You shouldn't be disappointed, that's how it comes. If you watched my detailed review and demo of Studio Fix Fluid you would have seen me say "This does not come with a pump..." in the first 15 seconds :)
This is so helpful. I have an interview at my counter in less than two hours. this is what i needed so badly. <3 Your videos are fantastic. And you yourself are a lifesaver.
Dusty Hi. I have a request and think you are one of the few ppl who would be capable of doing this justice in terms of knowledge. Could you do a video about SPF in makeup and flash photography?. I have heard of famous ppl using MUFE HD powder and being photgraphed (assumedly by pros) and showing flash bounce back. I use a Nikon D5000, Im not a pro but have been asked to do photos for a friends wedding. Obviosuly I will suggest she doesnt use SPF. This cld help a lot of ppl. Thank you x
@girlintrouble2 I've talked about it here and there in videos and on a few blog posts on the blog. You aren't supposed to use SPF products with flash photography but I've found that it isn't 100% true, all the time. It's a safe place to jump from though. I think I even mention it somewhere in this video?? LOL! It's hard to remember everything you end up talking about!
@dustyohunter You commented that Pro photographers would not have this problem, that its also most likely to occur with home photography gear and that it doesnt happen 100% of the time. I wonder if it depends on the level of SPF, maybe SPF15 is ok but maybe SPF30 isnt? Having done a 2 semester photography course and never having touched on SPF and not having an actual photo with the problem demonstrated I wonder if the SPF thing is a bit overstated, Maybe I would adjust the flash level down...
@girlintrouble2 It's worth a shot. I know Studio Fix Fluid has that SPF in it but it photographs fine. Titanium Dioxide is a common SPF and that WILL reflect light. Only way to know is to test it I suppose :)
Your great!!!! Now I know why I hate MAC studio Fix Fluid, it that darn silicone!!!! If i get hot and sweat, this stuff will start sliding down my face and I never understood why!!! Since I use and love the pro long wear concealer due to the fact I have a blemish, I guess the pro long wear foundation would do fine on me. I just hope it does not smear like that tech and fix fluid! Thank you for this review!
This is the BEST foundation review, overview, guide, etc. I have ever seen! Thanks for the hard work you put into this. It's so helpful because MAC foundations can be a little intimidating.
This is exactly what I was looking for when I typed 'MAC foundations 101' into google. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you spent to make this comprehensive, well edited video. It goes above my expectations of what I thought it would be. I also love the mix professionalism and personaity. I'm sick of seeing reviews that are rambley and talk about things like the youtuber's cat or some such nonesence. After watching 2 minutes of the video I had to subscribe. Thanks again.
@dustyohunter I use Mac face and body which concealer is best used with this I'm worried if I get a really matte Mac concealer I will end up with matte splotches all over my face, please help!? Oh and amazing video, your officially my favorite guru :)
Thank you! You helped me make up my mind. Unfortunately, watching on iPad, I couldn't see the detailed review links & they are not listed below. Never mind.. The info that I wanted was covered in this vid. Much appreciation
@norycejas If you have really oily skin it can oxidize and turn darker than it actually is when you first put it on. I don't have trouble with it but I don't have oily skin - Jay tested it also and he HAS oily skin but it didn't change color at all. If you find that it changes on you, just start with a color that's lighter than you'd normally use - It should deepen to match your own skintone that way.
This is a great help. I was looking for something like this to try a new MAC foundation. I wish I'd seen this video before I bought the stick "foundation" from MAC. I ended up giving it away.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO SO INFORMATIVE!!!
Definitely with you on the tinted moisturiser + powder thing. I started doing that almost every day about a year ago, and it feels so amazing, it's quick, clean, light, but still covers up my dark freckles perfectly. I've gotten compliments on my skin ever since because it doesn't look like makeup.
Does anyone know if MAC's NW toned foundations is a little bit darker than the NC ones? I know that W stands for warm and C for cool, but seriously my foundation is NW15, that means the lightest shade, and it's too dark for me, what should i do? Does anybody know if MAC sells something you could mix it with so it gets lighter or another brand or so?
@BennyJennyJ1 Watch it again or better yet, click on the detailed reviews where I go in depth about each of these foundations AND apply it so you can see :) I talk about finish, consistancy, coverage, etc.
Ok so i just started working at mac in in the UK and i have not yet sent on basic training! You have just basically taught me what i need to know on our foundation range and saved my life! lol. The most informative and awesome channel i have ever visited! Thank you soo much for helping me start and organize my kit and everything else! U have no idea!!!! Love u!!!
I usually don't wear MAC foundation. But during a trip to the US a couple of months ago, I got sucked in to the whole "OMG I cant believe how cheap MAC is in America" & went a bit mental at the MAC store (I blame the fact that I had just got off the plane after travelling for 15 hours)....anyway, I loved your review, it further cemented my reason for purchasing ProLongWear ...thanks for the tip on the no powder, will try tomorrow.
PS still trying to work out what I do with FixPlus.
@MsGoddessintraining SHH! don't tell anyone i said this ;) but i think that people who like fix+ are mental. it's actually a toner. mac won't tell you it is, but seriously, that's all it is. nothing more. it won't make your makeup stay on any longer. it KIND of "sets" your makeup so that it looks more like your own skin, but so do a ton of other products with better results because the application is more precise. it DOES hydrate your skin but... so do most other toners.
@dustyohunter what do you recommend in place of Fix+? I haven't tried any other 'setting sprays', but I like the way the Fix+ does kind of make my powder 'melt into' my foundation. If there's something out there that does the same/similar sort of thing, only better, I *need* to know what it is! Thanks! :D
@denverbeerchick Depends on what you want it to do... Any kind of misty water spray will bring "glow" back to your skin the way that Fix+ does (that's all it's doing is getting your face wet). Personally I favor using Strobe Liquid on my hands, pressed into the skin - Gives you more control and brings that natural glow back. If you want your makeup to last you should look at setting sprays. Ben Nye actually makes a nice one, it helps to really "lock" your makeup down.
@victoriaindigo hi five for asking me to do things that i'm already in the middle of! :) lol! i test each foundation for a full week so round-ups like this take some time but i AM working on the chanel version of this :) thanks!
Thank you for the well thought out review, I have stayed away form MAC foundations because there seemed to be too many and i could never find a MAC artist who had enough knowledge to explain the differences... sad.. I like the fact that you gave the objective description and then had the link to the personal review, I got so caught up and watched the whole thing in one sitting.. Thanks again!!
i was wondering if you can do a video on what to use to apply before make up or foundation ... i know there's a lot out there but which ones r the best ones plz and thank you..
but great videos .. u help me find the right products
@cushi815melt that video is actually in the works! it will take some time as i've been researching and testing various primers (i've gone through over a dozen so far), taking notes, etc. but expect to see it! :) thanks!!
@zeineb93 I can't really say what will look best, because I can't really see what it looks like on you, but if you are yellow, but it makes you too yellow, switch over to NW. or an NC foundation and NW powder for a more neutral coloring. As for powders, you can use anything, as long as you prep your dry skin the right way (a good moisturizer and maybe even primer). I recommend Studio Careblend (a new one), Mineralize Skinfinish, and Studio fix powder(kind of drying, but fix+ can help with that.)
With the Pro longwear foundation, do you not even need to set it if you have very oily skin?? I have it and have been using a powder and you're right when you say that it spoils it, but if I don't powder I get very shiny very quickly
wow, thanks for taking the time to do this review. it is very informative and helpful :) i added this to my favorite so i can view this anytime i want. best review on all foundations ever :) now i know which ones to get.
@dustyohunter great video! Thanks for all the hard work, on behalf of the makeup-illiterate I thank you lol I was looking into tinted moisturizers and was thinking I really don't want/need anything full coverage. But like you said I don't want to buy a $30 tinted moisturizer when I could buy a foundation & just add moisturizer! So my questions are 1)would face & body be the best foundation to mix with a moisturizer because of it's watery-ness (lol) and should I be worried about what adding moi
@Beautyholicc I'm a makeup artist :) Check my website for more info - Address is all over my channel page, the info section in each video, as well as the end of every video - dustinhunter(dot)com
@RunAmok86 I haven't tried the LM one so I can't compare the two :( I have one of her Primers though - And while it's nice, it's scented - Blech! I don't like scenting things sitting on my face! lol
Hi! This video and the linked ones helped me sooo much, thank you so much for making them all!
I know you're more of a MAC person, but do you think you'd be able to do a review on the Makeup Forever HD foundation? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
@cococarinamo i'll give you a quick opinion on it :) i REALLY wanted to hate it when i tried it lol! because i have enough foundations, i don't need anymore. but i quite liked it. it reminds me a little of studio fix fluid (just not as "smoothing"). i know plenty of people who don't like it - but i thought it was good. it made my skin look really pretty, had a nice finish, and the color range is really great as well.
this video is AMAZING :O its well organised,so informative and your a super nice person :) i now love all your videos...thank you so much :) sooo helpfull :D
this was awesome!!!! I'm only 17 so i haven't been using foundations very long. i bought the satin finish one and i hated it :( i wish i would have known it was going to look so glittery half way through my day . but thanks for this video!!! its really helpful!
Thank you! 4 answering in a second..so.. you´r right, I´m going to try them both and decide! it´s good that I can get samples of each one at my local MAC store! yei!!!
THANKS!! YEAH it was helpful, informative and all! so I´m going to dance in a stage and the people, local newspaper take me photos, I have normal to dry skin, no acne, only open pores and red in the normal parts haha and Iam 31yrs, so wich foundation its better for me? Studio fix fluid, or face & body or Pro longer, or wich one haha NEED UR HELP!!!! PLEASE :)
@hasita79 AH! lol! I can't answer that! You really need to try all three to see which one suits you best - I will say if you're having photos taken, Face & Body - While it's pretty - would be out. Since you're going to be giving yourself a workout Studio Fix Fluid MIGHT not stay put. Pro Longwear looks good in photos AND lasts so that would be my best guess - But at least try out SFF and Pro Longwear for yourself to make sure :)
unbelievable! very informative and not boring! I am searching for the right foundation and i would like it to be a foundation from mac, what is in your opinion the most suitable foundation for mature skin if you had to choose a mac foundation? thanks! greetings from the Netherlands!
@monobeserk I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks! :) "Mature" skin doesn't give enough info though - Is your skin dry, oily, sensitive? Check out the Intro to MAC Foundations video on here for a list of questions to ask yourself when choosing the right foundation - It's a good place to start :)
@dustyohunter Thanks for your reply! I have combination skin (dry cheeks and my T-zone is shiny) and i am 41 years old so not really mature yet! I always preferred more matte foundations maybe that is old fashioned i don't know..but i just can't get used to glowy, dewy..but if you are getting older maybe i have to! I will check your list of questions of the intro!
would u recommend a powder foundation for dry skin? im 15 and have been looking at MSF natural cause it's mineral and does not damage my skin, but i have pretty dry skin so sometimes powder dries out my skin and i dont want that
this doesnt feel like 20mins really. its definitely not boring like other videos past 10 mins! thank you very much for this video, very informative. :)
I tried studio fix fluid and my god was i was soo oily after a few hours. I normally have normal/oily skin so I would have to disagree that this foundation is good for oily skin.
I miss Hyper real foundation!!! I have a bottle and am holding onto it for dear life!! Do you think Mineralized Satinfinish is the best replacement? Thx!
@MsREZ10 PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU YELL AT IT TOO MUCH!!!! haha ;P the pumps don't come with foundations, you have to buy them seperately. they aren't as cheap as i would like them to be but they are REALLY good quality - they lock in place AND come with a nice guard (just in case they happen to come un-locked for some reason. you can get them in stores, counters or on-line :)
This video helped me SO much. I realized I was about to buy the totally wrong foundation. After this video, I definitely found the one perfect for me! You're seriously the most knowledgable person I've found on here so far :) Thank you <3
That was so amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that massive review!
As a side note tough, I think a "bang for your buck" sorta section (just like you did for the concealers) would have been great. I always feel I have to choose between expensive foundation that matches me or afforable and blah..
@loloyohoho like i said in the video - the right foundation is going to vary from person to person. i don't like to give recommendations like that because what i like, you might not. but if you want an answer: face and body :) every day. all day. on every person.
Wow...I think you answered all my questions, brought attention to questions I would have had, Made me laugh, get me to figure out what products I like the best and feel more comfortable about the products......geesus....can you do a color match for me to??? ;P
how did you get so knowledgeable on these products? i wanna be like you and know what you know...oh wait, now i already do! haha! i really love watching your videos!!! <3
@erin724 thank you! i have always learned by asking questions. if you want to know something, find someone who knows how to do it and start talking to them :) it wasn't until i was in my early 20's that i started to learn music. just because i decided i wanted to :) "call the destination and ask for directions" is my personal mantra. it means if you want to know something, find someone who knows it and ask them.
Thank you so much! When I walk into MAC I kinda get overwhelmed by all of the foundations. I have very oily skin, acne scaring, acne, rosacea, and I'm very pale. All drugstore foundations are too orange on my face. A lot of foundations get really cakey fast due to my large pores. I use powder and blotting papers but I'm never happy with how my skin looks. Most of the full coverage foundations I have cover, but they don't last all day and my redness still shows. What do you recommend? Thanks!!!!!
@BrunetteEmily11 a green-toned primer, skin corrector and/or foundation will help cover redness. however if you have rosacea, many drugstore and even department store foundations can make the problem much worse. using a more natural mineral foundation is the best way to go.
What is the best foundation to work on skin that is dry after showering and getting oily over the day? :)

i noticed that over time the face and body foundation goes darker from when you first buy it but it still is a great foundation

This is the BEST foundation review, overview, guide, etc. I have ever seen! Thanks for the hard work you put into this. It's so helpful because MAC foundations can be a little intimidating.
annamariebeauty 7 months ago
This is exactly what I was looking for when I typed 'MAC foundations 101' into google. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you spent to make this comprehensive, well edited video. It goes above my expectations of what I thought it would be. I also love the mix professionalism and personaity. I'm sick of seeing reviews that are rambley and talk about things like the youtuber's cat or some such nonesence. After watching 2 minutes of the video I had to subscribe. Thanks again.

I keep hearing studio fix fluid oxidizes on the skin and makes it look orange ish after a few hours, is it true?
norycejas 8 months ago in playlist Makeup and Tutorials Pt 2

Charlottemae64 8 months ago
Does anyone know if MAC's NW toned foundations is a little bit darker than the NC ones? I know that W stands for warm and C for cool, but seriously my foundation is NW15, that means the lightest shade, and it's too dark for me, what should i do? Does anybody know if MAC sells something you could mix it with so it gets lighter or another brand or so?

I usually don't wear MAC foundation. But during a trip to the US a couple of months ago, I got sucked in to the whole "OMG I cant believe how cheap MAC is in America" & went a bit mental at the MAC store (I blame the fact that I had just got off the plane after travelling for 15 hours)....anyway, I loved your review, it further cemented my reason for purchasing ProLongWear ...thanks for the tip on the no powder, will try tomorrow.
PS still trying to work out what I do with FixPlus.
MsGoddessintraining 10 months ago
@MsGoddessintraining SHH! don't tell anyone i said this ;) but i think that people who like fix+ are mental. it's actually a toner. mac won't tell you it is, but seriously, that's all it is. nothing more. it won't make your makeup stay on any longer. it KIND of "sets" your makeup so that it looks more like your own skin, but so do a ton of other products with better results because the application is more precise. it DOES hydrate your skin but... so do most other toners.
dustyohunter 10 months ago
@dustyohunter what do you recommend in place of Fix+? I haven't tried any other 'setting sprays', but I like the way the Fix+ does kind of make my powder 'melt into' my foundation. If there's something out there that does the same/similar sort of thing, only better, I *need* to know what it is! Thanks! :D
denverbeerchick 9 months ago
@denverbeerchick Depends on what you want it to do... Any kind of misty water spray will bring "glow" back to your skin the way that Fix+ does (that's all it's doing is getting your face wet). Personally I favor using Strobe Liquid on my hands, pressed into the skin - Gives you more control and brings that natural glow back. If you want your makeup to last you should look at setting sprays. Ben Nye actually makes a nice one, it helps to really "lock" your makeup down.
dustyohunter 9 months ago
@dustyohunter Perfect! Thanks soooo much! I'm going to check out the Ben Nye setting spray now!

zeineb93 1 year ago
@zeineb93 Try an NW powder all over and down your neck to neutralize and match it :)
k3vinb3rkowitz 1 year ago
@k3vinb3rkowitz Should I use the same shade for the powder? I don't want to look orange either :-p And what powder do you advice for dry skin?
zeineb93 1 year ago
@zeineb93 I can't really say what will look best, because I can't really see what it looks like on you, but if you are yellow, but it makes you too yellow, switch over to NW. or an NC foundation and NW powder for a more neutral coloring. As for powders, you can use anything, as long as you prep your dry skin the right way (a good moisturizer and maybe even primer). I recommend Studio Careblend (a new one), Mineralize Skinfinish, and Studio fix powder(kind of drying, but fix+ can help with that.)
k3vinb3rkowitz 1 year ago
With the Pro longwear foundation, do you not even need to set it if you have very oily skin?? I have it and have been using a powder and you're right when you say that it spoils it, but if I don't powder I get very shiny very quickly

How do you think the MAC tinted moisturizer compares to the one from Laura Mercier? I'm acne-prone so I like that LM has an oil-free option.
RunAmok86 1 year ago
@RunAmok86 I haven't tried the LM one so I can't compare the two :( I have one of her Primers though - And while it's nice, it's scented - Blech! I don't like scenting things sitting on my face! lol

cococarinamo 1 year ago
@cococarinamo i'll give you a quick opinion on it :) i REALLY wanted to hate it when i tried it lol! because i have enough foundations, i don't need anymore. but i quite liked it. it reminds me a little of studio fix fluid (just not as "smoothing"). i know plenty of people who don't like it - but i thought it was good. it made my skin look really pretty, had a nice finish, and the color range is really great as well.

PLEASE :)
hasita79 1 year ago
@hasita79 AH! lol! I can't answer that! You really need to try all three to see which one suits you best - I will say if you're having photos taken, Face & Body - While it's pretty - would be out. Since you're going to be giving yourself a workout Studio Fix Fluid MIGHT not stay put. Pro Longwear looks good in photos AND lasts so that would be my best guess - But at least try out SFF and Pro Longwear for yourself to make sure :)

unbelievable! very informative and not boring! I am searching for the right foundation and i would like it to be a foundation from mac, what is in your opinion the most suitable foundation for mature skin if you had to choose a mac foundation? thanks! greetings from the Netherlands!
monobeserk 1 year ago
@monobeserk I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks! :) "Mature" skin doesn't give enough info though - Is your skin dry, oily, sensitive? Check out the Intro to MAC Foundations video on here for a list of questions to ask yourself when choosing the right foundation - It's a good place to start :)
dustyohunter 1 year ago

@loloyohoho like i said in the video - the right foundation is going to vary from person to person. i don't like to give recommendations like that because what i like, you might not. but if you want an answer: face and body :) every day. all day. on every person.

Thanks!!!!!
BrunetteEmily11 1 year ago
@BrunetteEmily11 a green-toned primer, skin corrector and/or foundation will help cover redness. however if you have rosacea, many drugstore and even department store foundations can make the problem much worse. using a more natural mineral foundation is the best way to go.
