sorry,but if hes runnin 180mph,I think its safe to say thats not stock.Im sure its built to hold 6500rpms.pretty sure stock LS1s can take 6500 occasionally,hell Ive had my old worthless slow outdated iron LT1 (sarcasm anyone?) to 6000 stock,so i really dont think 6500 is too bad for a modded LS1.Now would I hold an all aluminum motor to redline for 20 seconds straight? HELL NO,but its this guys car and im sure he knows what its capable of.

i blew my right rear tire out when i was seeing how fast my 94 LT1 trans am would go. it blew when i was doing about 120 or so. after i changed it i was able to peg the speedometer for about a minute or so.

LS engines are 6 bolt mains with several forged internals...theyre 6000 rpm engines easily. sorry.

@chevykicksass505 the ls1 bottom end will hold to 7000 rpm. the valve springs wont. thats why you swap in ls2 heads. theyre rated at 6500 rpm, and theyre 3.9" bore, so they fit.

A stock LS1 will turn 6200, before valves start to float. Getting an additional 300 rpm is just a set of LS6 springs away. LS motors love to rev, 6500 rpm is not difficult.

But Ya, the LS1 is a Tough Engine! ;^)

if this car was stock it probably would of blew up a lot earlier...

when you upgrade with a cam+rockers+larger valve springs, cars can easily hold higher rpm's. for example my car stock, grand prix gtp, red lines at 5800 rpm, but if i get a XP cam+ the supporting mods (105 valve springs+retainers, hydro lifters and a stronger timing chain) the shift points should be raised to 6400 rpm's (also some tuning will be needed).

The needle can be calibrated to a 200 MPH speedometer. That is a Granatelli gauge cluster. Granatelli Motor Sports does the calibrating for you.
