quite clear that the book's version of ozy is better, make captain america (the marvel bloke should have been called captain usa to my taste) blow up new york to get the reds frighten by upcoming aliens, i bet it's the time constraint of 6 screening a day that cost him the 20 extra minutes where the missing bits were lost :
ozy is the romantic genius, the us of a and ussr are going at it, bit more doc, hollis mason's murder and a view of sir alan's us of a ... in the near future
I came out of the cinema quite pleased overall.I really loved how Rorschach was portrayed as I was with most of the other characters.A lot of the scenes were directly storyboarded from the book which was so good.I would have liked to see Night Owl 1 get bludgeoned, just me I guess. Also I thought the music Hallelujah for the love scene was comedic, should have been Billie Holliday's "You're my thrill"Lots of niggles and quibbles but overall a worthwhile experience.
Yeah. I had no idea what the watchmen was. Never really read comics as a kid. So I guess I can wait for it to come to dvd and rent it. I'll tell you if I liked it or not.
I haven't read the comic yet but I enjoyed it a lot. I found it gave me a lot to think about and the whole thing moved very quickly so it didn't feel so long. I really really liked the start when they showed us the progression through time with the Watchmen. Some of the images shown were very strong and just stuck in my mind (Hippies/armary).
I totally agree with you about the ending! There isn't much back story to the giant squid so Zack could of squeezed it in. He could of shortened the sex scenes a little to make room for more important details but oh well. I'm just glad that Zack got the last two minutes of the movie spot on with Rorschach's journal. Speaking of which, Zack should of included the one on one talk with Adrian and Dr. M because he hints at the end of the novel that "Things never end", instead of Laurie saying it.
i liked the movie over all but the black freighter and scenes at the news stand being taken out dont allow you to understand the publics view aboout the happenings during the story and also Dr. Manhattans big blue penis took center screen why couldn't silk spectres boobs? but all in all this is one of the best movies of all time
I'm gonna start off by saying that i had never heard of watchmen before this so my opinion of the movie is completely unbiased.
First off, i think it could have done with a LITTLE LESS blue wang. As interesting as it is to have a naked blue guy floatin all over the place, the whole blue-wang-in-every-damn-shot thing gets kind of annoying.
But the important part: the action.
EPIC! I have never seen a more mindblowingly gorey and violent movie, ever.
I agree wholeheartedly with your opinions on the film, I didn't find myself missing the squid too much but I felt that Veidt was not as well written as he could have been, not sure if he was cast correctly either.
haha .. I respect your views for the most part. I think Zack thought it would a giant squid would be hard for the audience to take with all the other stuff. Remember your a fanboy but for the rest he knew it would be 'wtf???'. Hopefully he'll come out with the 'real' version on one of the dvds!
I think most of us are glad that just for once someone in Hollywood did a decent enough rendition of a book/novel - almost panel for panel.
