The problem is when the rest of society has to pay for these people's bad parenting. I'm tired of all these "ban McDonalds" movements that blame the fast food corps for making their kids fat. If you don't want your kid to get fat, don't let him eat at McDonalds every day! It's simple, why should I have my right to enjoy a Big Mac taken away because you are too stupid to raise your kid?
"The Thing" from John Carpenter was SOMEHOW mistaken for a friendly alien movie like "E.T The Extraterrestial" that was released a week ago in 1982. Its seems that they forgot that John Carpenter made "Halloween", you know, a HORROR MOVIE
personally it depends on maturity if your kid is very immature do not let your kid see R rated movies or comics that are for mature readers if your kid is very mature I think him or her can handle some rougher stuff
@OneOfTheDudes No I ment most california parents are irresponsible and let their kids do whatever they want. But I'm just stereotyping californians, its fun.
@spidermansidekick1 Yeah, I know. I just get a little touchy about the California stereotypes because I can't mention that I'm from Southern California without telling me how vapid and irresponsible we all are.
seriously, you dont have to know anything about it to know that its not for kids when all you have to do is just look at the damn ratings. also, they stay with their kids at the movie. unbelievable! they would know in the first scene that this is marketed strictly to adults. but i guess even after a brutal murder in the first scene, super hero rape, shooting a pregnant woman, and a softcore porn scene, theyre still waiting for it to be subtle and friendly. unbelievable. great review btw.
a friend of my mom was going to take her kid to see Watchmen, and since I,being the big comic book nerd I am, had read Watchmen(I have the graphic novel),I told her,"just because its superheroes, doesn't mean Watchmen is for kids because its not targeted towards them at all. Its a very mature and adult story."
seriously, there were so many parents taking their kisd to that film, thinking it was gonna be like the Spider-man film,or something.
im 13 and ive watched watchmen, blade, matrix, pulp fiction etc with my parents not caring. and you know why they dont care? cause they know i accept reality and wont do stupid crap like go out on a killing spree or become a superhero.
I completely agree with this. Children are being exposed to such awful things. Last year at a preschool in my town, one of the teachers played saw 2 for all of the five year olds. Its pretty bad.
i think most of the problem for somethings like why parents are getting upset at Watchman and other problems in animated or comic book related materials is that they assume it's for kids which is completely random considering that early comics centered around WW2 as well as early cartoons making fun or light of Hitler or whatever. We've become a society that's overly sensitive at times. If something offensive comes up tell your kids why it's offensive. But i guess most parents are too busy.
Can't these people just check the movie schedules on the walls? 9 out of 10 times, the signs have the movie rating on the side somewhere. Or the ticket stubs, they always have the rating printed right there. How the hell can they 'unknowingly' go to a R rated movie??
bad parenting for what i´ve seen, is parents who don´t pay attention to their children, but then, they wanna kill directors who make R-rated movies watched by their children saying they "don´t think in our little one". but that´s their fault for letting them watch it in the first place. good parents, do not make fuss about this stuff, because they are concient of the maturity of their children and know if they can or can´t go watch movies like this.
for me, taking your son or daughter to see a movie like watchmen is ok only if they are mature enough. what i mean is that, if you know the content of a movie is not apropriate for your children, hten you shouldn´t go watch it in the first place. for me it´s not so much about the age, but about how mature you are. making fuss about movies like this when you already know it´s gonna be violent and stuff is just stupid, for me.
@DEADPOOLJOKER exactly! hell,I watched films like the Terminator films(1&2),Predator,etc. with my mom, when I was still in elementary school, and I didn't turn into some psycho murderer from watching it.
Actually my mom said that to me when I was 5 or 6. She told me what I saw in the movies and played in the games was fake. And I shouldn't imitate what they do or say.
when me and my dad went to see this i was 13 and whenever a adult scene came up he'd look at me and laugh and he just said in the sex scene you wont need a health class now
I swear, people think that when you see a costumed superhero or something out of a comic book, they think it's going to be something for kids. It's not the case at all here. I went to go see Punisher War Zone this past December and noticed some people walking out of that one. A lot of people that Frank Castle is no family friendly. There's nothing family friendly about blasting some criminal in the head. I read Watchmen before seeing the movie and knew what to expect.
If someone is old enough to have a 13 or 14 year old daughter, she shouldn't be so guffawed at the fact that there's a blue penis on the screen. So many people freaked with that, and for what? Even PG-13 movies have topless women in them now, but a blue penis sets America on a course to kill Zack Snyder?
man, i can't stand these self-righteous diaper-sniffers and soccer moms who get offended and spoil movies, video games, and what have you just because they were airheaded in the first place. they need to be more selective beforehand, and stop being so overprotective. a swear word is not going to warp your child- besides, as you said, it could be a good education opportunity.
you're absolutely right. it just boils down to laziness and bad parenting.
It really is sad, when I went to see this movie, there were parents sitting in the seats with little 5-12 year old's running down the aisles. All I really did was shake my head and marvel at the ridiculousness of it.
Why the heck would any parent take their wee little youngsters to Watchmen anyway? Did they ever read the comic? The comic is extremely dark, bloody, and brutal. Although it is well written and practically academic in terms of story and art it is definitely not a kids comic. I remember when I heard for the first time that I realized the movie was coming out, I was thinking myself "Man, they better not dumb it down to PG-13, otherwise I'm not seeing it."
I've heard stories from Anon on the Cartoons and Comics board of 4chan. Lots of reports of parents bringing their children into the movie. Most left after the death of Eddie Blake, though one father stayed there telling his son to close his eyes for 50% of the movie. Bad stuff.
I hate parents who think that their kids are all other people's responsibilities and not their own.
That mom you talked about who took her daughter to see Watchmen, isn't the OPENING SCENE enough to make you realize your daughter probably shouldn't be watching it?
If you go on Amazon and look at the 1 star review for League of Extraordinary gentlemen vol. 1, there's a reviewer whose only reason to give it a 1 star is because he gave it to his kid.
I remember back when I first got a job as a movie usher. Jason Goes to Hell opened up that weekend and I was surprised how many parents were bringing their kids into the theater.
Oh yeah! My favorite memory goes back to a couple that brought their two daughters (I think they were 8 and 6.) to see James and the Giant Peach. Well, they came to the wrong theater, so they choose one of the films we were playing. They bought tickets to Fear with Mark Walberg.
When they came to me to rip their tickets, I told them that James and the Giant Peach was playing at a theater across the street. They thankfully turned around catch the next showing.
Agree with your opinions. We cant complain if the movie is not good for kids, becoz it has been rated "R", so its wise to use a little discretion. Ideally parents should not allow their kids anywhere near, but we still get parents harping about such issues. They dont understand the "R" status.
This always gets on my nevers. When TV and the media is blamed for stupididy of the parents and they blame the TV and movie studios. That women you talked about is an absolute moron
i hate it when parents and the media try to portray video games as bad when it has the rating and everything in it like you said and i find it funny how people try to connect video games to columbine, its the parents fault, its "bad parenting"
Thanks for not mentioning me XD. Also, I agree with not taking little kids to go see Watchmen. I see three year olds in the Spider-Man movies all the time. Little kids love Spider-Man, there needs to be something for children to enjoy of him. That's where I come in
Wow...taking a little kid to see an R-rated movie? Damn...I mean, I'm 18 and I had to look away at the more graphic violent scenes. I totally agree with you here.
