And what you just asked IS a valid question. Another common argument that absolutely should be considered: If we all have rights, do we allow business owners to have "whites only" signs. There is a difference between governments helping the needy, and governments protecting people from themselves. But in fact, fed gov DOES NOT have that right.
@schillerblvd This all comes down to an understanding of rights and the constitution. Understanding the difference between rights and privileges. Rights are determined by the the owner of the property in question, whether its land, your body, or your mind. If you want to know who has a right, determine who's property you are talking about. If it's YOUR property, YOU have the right, and that means that YOU are the highest authority in whatever the issue is.

Why is it such an alien idea that STATES can dictate what the people in THAT PARTICULAR REGION what as far as statutes and rules? If Ron Paul truly wants change, he should focus on the first steps to fixing the system, not trying to fix the system from the top down. Focus on the Electoral system first, fix that, then change is possible, leave it alone, and status quo wins. Put forth legislation to reform or even eliminate the electoral college and have the pres voted by direct ballot, that should be the first step.

@schillerblvd And stupid as that may be, it's believable. He was a full time doctor and involved in politics. I am quite sure that he was quite busy. And it is NOT unreasonable to see a LOGIC, not stupidity, in delegating tasks to hired help. Do you think Oprah writes every word in every article in the magazine and website in her name? Probably not. Though there IS a risk in not reading every single one of them, it is reasonable to be busy enough to conceive that he probably did not.

Furthermore, those sentences ARE susceptible to each subject readers scrutiny, and if someone WANTS to see a racist angle, they will. It isn't like he (the writer of the article) said "I hate niggers". He (the writer) made stereotypical comments and THAT may be a symptom of something less evil than outright racism: Naivety.

@schillerblvd Bottom line, I am giving RP the benefit of doubt for several reasons: 1. NO ONE has stood forward in person WITH FACTUAL PROOF -a recording, a video, etc- of HIM saying things like that. 2. Everyone who knows him personally in private, AND political life agree that's not his character. 3. He IS in politics and therefore it IS conceivable that his political enemies would want to destroy him anyway possible, including character assassination, using mole hills as mountains.

@schillerblvd 4. There ARE videos of him talking 20 years ago saying things that racist just wouldn't say. He was STILL speaking about individual rights for everyone, and even back then was a strong supporter of freeing non-violent drug offenders from prison because of how biased the drug war is to minorities. (Still does in fact - says if elected, they all get pardoned) 5. Recently one of his aids from back then came out and agreed RP is not a racist - homophobic maybe, but not racist.

Now I know that's sort of eff'ed up sounding, but I am looking at him for one reason. I believe above ALL other issues presented in this election, there are two that are absolutely critical to our very survival as a sovereign nation: ending the fed, and saving the constitution. ALL ELSE IS SECONDARY. And he is the only one who isn't institutionalized.

And what you just asked IS a valid question. Another common argument that absolutely should be considered: If we all have rights, do we allow business owners to have "whites only" signs. (along a similar vein). Another valid concern. BUT you have to really KNOW what a "right" is, and I believe people are confused.

1. Most humans, because of their weaknesses, are undeserving of love.
2 Altruism is evil
3. Government should not provide any safety nets for people who find themselves in dire financial straits, even if it was not their fault.

(I say that for clarity as we are now talking more about ideas of government more than whether or not RP is a racist) - So that said, addressing the points you made... Love IS a human idea. So that's just non-sense. 2. Altruism is a beautiful thing - but HOW should it be applied it the question. 3. There is a difference between governments helping the needy, and governments protecting people from themselves. But in fact, fed gov DOES NOT have that right.

@schillerblvd This all comes down to an understanding of rights and the constitution. Understanding the difference between rights and privileges. Rights are determined by the the owner of the property in question, whether its land, your body, or your mind. If you want to know who has a right, determine who's property you are talking about. If it's YOUR property, YOU have the right, and that means that YOU are the highest authority in whatever the issue is.

@schillerblvd The constitution is written NOT to give FEDERAL government permission to limit our rights, but in fact is a contract between states (and us) and the FEDERAL gov in which WE give THEM the PERMISSION to protect our borders, our economy and our freedom IF THEY swear to defend and uphold THE CONTRACT ITSELF. So NO, the FEDERAL gov DOES NOT have the right to limit ANY of our rights in ANY way, for ANY reason, and when they do, they are in technical violation of their oath.

Why is it such an alien idea that STATES can dictate what the people in THAT PARTICULAR REGION what as far as statutes and rules? Keep in mind that we are NOT supposed to be a democracy, we are in fact a republic. They are almost the same except for ONE THING: Democracy is majority wins EVERY issue. Republics allow votes on any issue EXCEPT one that violates someones rights. So people are free to choose WHATEVER laws they see fit for their regions as long as it does not violate someones right.

If you were to take a trip back to America before the New Deal you would find out how bad things were back then (in terms of standard of living, freedom of speech, health care etc.). Totally biased, those letters weren't even signed by anyone, no one claimed them. Additionally, he did not defend them. Don't be a tool, good politicians rarely come along and now that one has it is our chance to get him into office, stop corruption, and give power back to the people. As president he had said he plans on cutting the the presidential and congress paychecks, he does not accept any money from corporations, and his veteran funding is double all the other candidates.

If Ron Paul truly wants change, he should focus on the first steps to fixing the system, not trying to fix the system from the top down. Focus on the Electoral system first, fix that, then change is possible, leave it alone, and status quo wins. Put forth legislation to reform or even eliminate the electoral college and have the pres voted by direct ballot, that should be the first step.
