  • "Thats no even a piano"

  • 1:50 to 3:02 I bet you that was the sound from in the name of god

  • @bleh151 It's from Home :)

  • Do all of those sounds come in a standard version of the oasys. Or do u have to be JR and programme them into it

  • i like that he hums along

  • How much does that thing cost. And can i get those sounds already programmed in to it

  • @MRA7XDRUMMeRDudE93 The sounds would have been made by Jordan. And I'm not sure on the cost of the OASYS as korg discontinued production of it. Or they had last I heard. Anyway they have a new synth out called the Kronos. Which has most, if not all, the sounds of the OASYS and more. It's about $4000 so yeah. Korg aren't cheap.

  • @prototypep4 thats damn cheap cuz where i live it cost around 6125$

  • i am aware that lots of these music snippets are from actual DT songs, but

i wonder if he improvises some of this stuff (i.e. the sitar part) on camera

  • @TheBigO1998

Sitar part is also from DT :)

  • @TorSkywalker It's also quite similar to a song from his solo work. Across the Sky off of Listen.

  • MAGIC HAND !

    AWESOME .

  • what version of korg is that?

  • @ciccirocco It's an 88 key Korg Oasys

  • He just makes me want to go to the top, he is amazing

  • is it a song at 3:11 with the basic piano sounds and can anyone tell me the name?

  • @TorSkywalker About to Crash - Six Degress Of Inner Turbulence Enjoy =]

  • @gordoairbus Thank you so much! (:

  • Question, please! Does anyone know if is it possible to change sounds like that WITHOUT those gaps? I can hear small interruptions in the sound. I'm frightened... if OASYS and JR can't manage that, I think no one can.

  • i think every korg keyboard have trouble when changing presets, sound going to mute.... not like roland, sound going to fade...... it's clearly see on this video...

  • @okiirawansudiarto You are wrong. The OASYS doest even fade on instrument/program/combo change, it plays the sound out like the key was released. However, you might run into polyphony issues if you have lots of 10+ instrument combos using lots of effects. You are usually "limited" to 182 tone polyphony, depending of which instruments are used.

  • I am starting to think Jordan Rudess is too good for DT....

  • what an absolute musical genius

  • what is the name of the song in the 5:57?

  • @piolorock

That's "Overture" from Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

  • what iis the name of the song in the 5:57 ??

  • The keyboard should be fucking louder in DT...the guitar covers a part of what Jordan does...is too many details,we only catch it all when Jordan teaches or show keyboards like on this video

"Just turn down the volume,John, just a little bit..."

  • That clav riff from The Dark Eternal Night is exquisite!

  • The music that starts at 05:56 ... what can I say.. this is so fucking* EPIC!!! :D Jordan, I cannot thank you enough for this! Long live JR and DT!! =)

  • @niniaty DT doestn live at all without MP

  • Although I do think he IS the best keyboardist out there, the choice of music he plays I just can't stand. But man is he amazing!

  • @Reketh why? what do you mean by his "choice" of music that you can't stand?...I'm just curious.

  • @nikiwonoto I think Reketh means that he doesn't like Dream Theater.

  • I don't fucking get it. Do you work for Korg? Do you work for Kurzweil?

You can own what you think is best and you can support Jordan when he chooses his favorite board.

  • There is something special about having the same "board" as a legend.

You Kurzweil fans that can't stand THE MAN is now playing a KORG need to realize that life goes on. Rudess has always used KORG - most of the sounds he used came from a Karma that sat right behind him - played through the Kurzweil controller. So when KORG created a board that surpassed the Kurzweil, from a controller perspective well, it was time to move on. Time to move on and quit hatin'.

  • @ejsanch Keep in mind that Jordan also use keyboards from other brands as well. He just prefers the OASYS(now Kronos) to play live cause it can do what he needs in DT live. If you see his last LTE live, he uses a Roland Fantom G8.

  • @mr4y Well, I'm well aware he uses other boards - heck, my comment mentions he used a Karma controlled by a Kurzweil.

Time moves on, so one day another keyboard will come out that is better, has more expressiveness, functionality. The point of my post was to proudly wave the OASYS banner while it was his primary board. Keep in mind that post was 1 year ago, so that he plays something else between then and now is not a surprise.

  • THE PIG ROCKS!!!

  • I don't know what the difference is between other synthesizern or masterkeyboards :D i get almost the same sound with cheapier instruments, i only need a little bit more time...

  • @snake018joe Well, workstations are for people who are extremely serious about music production, and the sound quality on the workstations are much better than cheaper ones.

  • I'm willing to say you just about have to be this good to get what you want out of this product. I would also say it's worth the money to the folks who can actually play it like this. But I know I'm not one who could do this.

  • Have my children!

  • Rudess and Myung should not be in the same band because thats like a ninja with a gun.....its just fucking cheating\

  • Comment removed

  • ...sorry, don't get it how this is better than Rudess' old Kurzweil - except for "the joystick that goes to the left and right, but also up and down!".

Hope it paid off financially for him...

  • @dpeg I think a big part of Jordan moving to the Oasys was simply the age of the Kurz technology. VAST is very powerful but the Oasys is even more so with the ability to layer even more and the ease of editiing compaired to the Kurz and the adjustablility of the paramaters of each sound. My 2500XS was a true pain to edit so I moved to the Alesis Fusion HD8. I also think Kurz was having some financial issues that were holding them back from making the next best thing.

  • @BrentMB79 Didn't know about that financial issues thing w/ Kurzweil. What I intended to say is that in that video, I didn't hear anything where I'd go "a K2600XS can't do that!". And w/ the programming experience Rudess (+his tech) obviously had gathered w/ the Kurzes and the sounds already programmed, I simply didn't (and don't) get why the move was necessary.

  • @dpeg

He doesnt pay for any of this, he's endorsed by korg so gets it all free!

  • @booshed63 That's what I was hinting at by "hope it paid off financially for him..."

  • "That's not even a piano!"

Forgot that patch was on that divide, did ya? xD

  • WHAT SONG IS AT 9.14

  • @stevenjw2006 In the Presence of Enemies Pt. 1?

  • @stevenjw2006 In The Presence Of Enemies - Systematic Chaos XD'

  • 5:58-6:44, I could say is just about the most amazing thing I've ever heard. It was so true to the original SDOIT orchestra piece. Truly amazing. must have watched it 5-6 times.

  • Could someone please explain to me how exactly pitch stretch works on Korg synths?

  • 6 people are jealous of his epic godly skills :P

  • Thank you for making a real demo

  • It feels like he's ashamed of that he has named one of the sounds, 'the snorling pig'.. Just look at him turning on the chair and stuttering and everything...

  • aaaah about to crash is beautiful

  • keep clicking 3:39 !! hilarious. after a while it sounds like 'romance'

  • @JoeyJ234 .. Lots of spare time? ;D

  • With Eric Wakeman from Yes, the most talented keyboardist ever!!

  • That's not even a piano!?

  • Jordan Rudess has cool shoes too.

  • @BurzumiyaMusic - Oh yeah.. He's cool everywhere, that old fellow.

  • wich song is he playing...? in 1:13... i dowloaded the "systematic chaos" album but almost all the songs are instrumental and sounds like what he´s playing can somebody tell me wich album is?

  • @MrSrponyboy The Dance Of Eternity from the album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory.

  • dirty nasty pig :-D

    Panic Attack!

  • @majlo1991 Why pig?

  • @steitisch go at 7.30 and you will understand!

  • excelente!!!

  • Fucking love the "Home" solo. Majestic.

  • "The human solo orchestra person."

  • Holy balls! I've just started leaning the dance of eternity, Its so fast and precise, and he makes it look SO EASY!!

  • Maestro Rudess for president!!!

  • Is the tune at 3:13 an actual song?

  • Yes, It's off of "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence". "Solitary Shell" I think. Awesome album!

  • @Bamshu It's the second part of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, "About to Crash"

  • Ah cool. I've got to check that album out. Thanks.

  • It's "About To Crash"

  • @Bamshu About to crash-six degrees of iner turbulance

  • hes raw

  • how much does this korg oasys cost ?

  • @fatjon15 8K

  • every keyboard should have the pig!!!!

  • @logeybear5150 hahahahah I created it on my CASIO! xD

  • @SPARDATheDemon93 How did you make the pig on a Casio! I have a Casio and i love the sound. How did you do that? Thanks!

  • @logeybear5150 Every keyboard player should buy a pig ? xD

    (joke, don't kill me!)

I like instructionals videos of Rudess. Very helpful :)

  • @MaxViti you know, a pig would probably cost less than the oasys did when it was in production lol

  • @logeybear5150 best sound ever! u know if the Korg Karma has it?

  • @PhoebusRose64 i have no idea, but like i said, it should :D

  • @logeybear5150

How did Jordan created that pig sound? Is it a clav? And what effects? Filteres? Love that sound.

  • @lenerjan The oasys is capable of mixing 16 programs (with up 2 instruments each), 12 insert effects, 2 master and 2 total effects, from a library of 3000+ adjustable and self-creatable instruments, most of which have hundreds of settings, all at the same time. Its pretty hard to tell how he made it ;)

  • @logeybear5150 If I recall correctly the pig sound was made on an older Kurzweil keyboard. Ruddess would probably be using the OASYS' capabilities to create insstruments from samples to make it on the O. He might have programmed it from scratch though, in which case I'm very impressed with the similarities from the older sound.

  • does anyone know where can I find the parameter guide to the oasys?

  • what type of pedal is he using and can it work on other korgs too?

  • he's using a damper pedal, but you can use any kind of footswitch. I have a Korg X3 (pretty pretty old, btw) and I use two roland DP-2 in it... You just know how to change polarity of assignable pedal and that's it...

  • It'll be a Boss FS-5U

Works on all keyboards that allow you to assign the pedal control

  • piano .keyboard & syntetizer god!!!

  • jordan could make a casio home keyboard from 1987 sound like the latest and greatest amazing instrument. dont bve surprised when you goto the store and play the same synths and they dont sound nearly as good as they do when he plays them lol

  • Agreed, some guy suckered me into buying an acoustic guitar that way ahaha. =D

  • one of the most gifted well-known pianoplayers on this world, and on keyboards only: well...he has probably the best playing capability, just the best maybe yes:p

  • Dude...Care to donate some of your talent to me? you have enough already...

  • i think Korg should make an Oasys time instrument synth with no audio recorder... instead put an Oasys engine with perhaps.. VST player inside.... OH BABY.... that would be amazing

  • I want more snarling pig!!!

  • dam right i always come back to this vid for that little bit

  • is the pedal has up and down changes??

  • which type of pedal does he use to change sounds with his foot?

  • a Boss Non-latching Footswitch i'm not sure what model but i saw it on both gear tours from Octavarium and Systematic Chaos

  • A basic sustain pedal plugged into the "Control" input of the Synth.

  • Comment removed

  • pig sound!!!!! lol jajajaja

  • I love the part from 2:21 - 3:09, which is the ending Home and from 3:11 - 3:26, from About to Crash

  • he really is just absolutely staggeringly good. out of this world. id trade my own talents to be this good on this instrument. well, maybe lol 50/50 then thats my final offer lol.

  • It seems the Oasys has stationary faders.. BUT, it changes values when flipping to the next sound... So wouldn't motorized faders be a great idea for the next version of the Oasys? ;-)

  • He's the most gifted Dream Theater Musician. @_@

    wanna be like him..

  • he's just the most gifted musician. period.

  • yeah i guess you could say that but as for skill they're all masters at what they do

  • @nukesheart with Mike Portnoy not far behind with Petrucci in 3rd.

  • @nukesheart no such thing as gifted. practice and passion makes virtuoso no some kind of talent from birth

  • @LedKenji666 He's a child prodigy. Read his bio. :D

  • @nukesheart this doesnt mean he is gifted it means he loved playing music and he was practicing the right way. i can suggest you a book if you want and i hope you will read it its called : ''This is your brain on music'' by Daniel J. Levitin

  • that´s not even a piano lol jajajajajaja

  • He's amazing, it's too bad all his little details get lost under the rest of the mix in DT. His solo albums are amazing.

  • what's the name of the first song he plays ?

  • the dance of eternityor the instrumedley

  • dance of eternity, that parts also is used in instrumedley

  • The Dance of Eternity.

  • 4:38 "that's not even a piano" :D

  • its about to crash from SDOIT

  • thanks

  • what song is he playing at 3:13??

  • Liquid tension experiment - Biaxident

  • Biaxident sounds very similar, but it's actually "About to Crash" from Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

  • He is soooo fucking good! It's depressing really lol. Makes me wanna work harder!!

  • How the fuck does he changes the sound so quicky withouth touching at minute 8 almost????

  • Pink-striped pedal (you can see him step on it at 8:20 with his left foot) issues program changes. Check out "Jordan Rudess Keyboard World" video for more detail on his setup.

  • haha 8:20 jordan is singing along!! haha awesome!!

  • he dose that allot there a vid where he explains it in a lesson

  • WOW, What a great Demo.. You play like a master. Over it. I'll have to wait a few tears to get one though., second hand. Well done. LOL .

  • I love kurzweil, more..:)..but oasys is perfect too-..:)

  • Home :D

  • he switches through the sounds he has mapped in the software.

  • what kind of pedal is he talking about

  • the wah-wah pedal :)

  • A switcher

  • Panic Attack for the win.

  • One of the shocking things is that a 7 grand keyboard can't change it's sounds with release(not stoping the previous sound). Big shame for korg.

  • True. It's a common midi limitation in keyboards (the note off message being sent upon patch change), but it can be programmed around in software. The release piece of the envelope wants to carry out the sound but it gets hijacked by the new patch.

  • Actually it can I've never encountered this problem with mine. perhaps jordan has it set up this way for demo purposes or even for personal preferences? :S

  • It happens in combi mode, not program mode.

  • Jordan only plays what he wants to hear. If he wanted sustain on his patches, he would have it.

  • That's a very know problem that happens on all Korg keyboards. When you have a lot of sounds happening(like Jordan does all the time), the sound cuts to give room to new sounds.

  • No. The Oasys does not support patch spillover due to processor limitations. VERY few synths (hard or soft) do.

  • 4:40

  • Panic attack is so cool and i love how he demonstrates it

  • "...make it dark BZZZZZZT - that's not even a piano!"

  • ROTFL AT 4:42

  • el mejor

  • Ah, this key's not assigned, neither is that

    oops :P

  • I love the Piano of About To Crash at 3:12

  • That's not even a piano.

    LOL!!

  • The intro of Instrumedley!! WOW!

  • "It's my job to be the human solo orchestra person"

    Ha! lmao

  • This video is so awesome, especially the part from 7:50 onwards

  • WHAT WAS THAT THING IN THE BEGINING?

  • The Dance of Eternity!

    that was it xD

  • Dance of Eternity

  • The man is a wizard!!!!

  • fron what song is the pig sound?

  • form Panic Attack (Octavarium) and this song rocks !

  • hey dussan007, "Instrumedley" it's just the union of many songs of DT...don't you know that? damn...."MEDLEY"

  • ok if you want

  • damn he's good!

  • basicly this is a computer in form of keyboards

  • Actually, it really is a computer.

    It's a Pentium 4 PC with a piano keyboard :)

  • Its a pentium fucking 10 PC with a piano keyboard :D

  • jajaja!!!!
