  • I am thinking of trying ham radio. You have me sold! Keep them coming.

  • Great videos, Peter! I have built a couple of mag loops myself - mostly for condo operations (my current one hangs inside from the ceiling when I want to operate). I'm a big fan of the mag-loop; glad to see your experiments with a ped-mobile loop, and the scenery is cool too. Come to Colorado and bring your loop to the Rockies - you'd have a blast! - NØDET

  • That's the first time I ever saw someone logging in sand. hihi

I'm going to have to try one of these loops. I operate portable QRP a lot myself. 73 de Al, W2GZN

  • Very cool, Randy

  • Wonderful videos. Subscribed and watching them all.

  • Look like you were having a lot of fun Peter, loved the explanation of the loop.

    Well done!

  • Hello Peter,

Great video! I like the spoon oscillator and how you compared it to the loop.

Now to collect the stuff I need to build one!

  • I have look on various sites about mag loop antennas, but do not understand how to make the feed loop exactly, this is hard for me to wrap my mind around.

  • A thoroughly entertaining video Peter...I look forward to each new video you upload. Well done on the loop antennas too - amazingly simple and effective.

  • I see that your loop is not a perfect circle, but more square-ish. Does that have any influence on the resonant frequency of the 'loop'?

  • @flexairz It probably does but it really doesn't matter - the variable capacitor takes care of it.

In theory the circular loop would be slighly more efficient than a square loop as it covers a bigger area per metre of cord. But in practice the variations are small and the biggest efficiency gains are obtained by improving the conductivity of the loop and reducing resistive losses in connections to the variable capacitor.

  • Peter, I think your video's are getting more entertaining! .. great explanation.

  • @melbourneradio Thanks Grant! Sunday was also the first time I used the sand as a log to remember callsigns etc. And turned out to be a good blackboard as well.
