  • Classic song ever. Ray Stevens did a terrific job with this song almost like Mr. Businessman.

ALDO

  • @Henglebert1 Get over it...and peace be unto you, Bro...

  • Play Misty for me.

  • iwas 19yrs and i was getting ready to go in the navy when this song came out!

  • I WAS RAISED LISTENING TO THIS SONG.BRINGS ALOT OF MEMORIES

  • Here's something none of you seem aware of ... Ray Stevens, played all of the instruments on this song - he is a multi instrumentalist ... and the man can sing as well ....So more credit to Ray .... now that you know ... 1975 was also a great year for music .... as I've already mentioned below ....

  • How the hell can you possibly think this is better than "The Streak".?

  • Is that a theremin at 1:21, or just something that sounds similar?? Can't tell...

  • @oldmanpoodle What's a theremin? Had my eyes closed, singing. Forgot to open, look and listen!

  • @oldmanpoodle Just opened, looked and listened. I do believe that is a steel guitar.

  • I agree totally, completely, 110%! Good to see others with great taste. Yes, indeed, what a voice. I recently wrote to Ray thanking him for this gem. The incredible fiddles remind me of another favorite, "City of New Orleans" by the late great Steve Goodman.

  • @musicollector1975 Haven't heard that song by Steve Goodman. Have to find it. Thanks for the tip.

  • Definitively, categorically, Ray Stevens' best song ever and THE best version of this standard by anyone. No one can even come close to this masterpiece. Thank you for this memory from 1975, when times were good, indeed.

  • Banjos, fiddles, a steel guitar and Ray. Can it honestly get any better than this when he sings a serious song? What a voice!!!!

  • love it.

  • I just love when he sings "a thousand violins begin to play" and all those fiddles kick in. Ray can make a beautiful song like this and still mix in a little comedy.

  • This is the first Misty I ever heard back in 1975. I love it!

  • Has always been my favorite recording on this song. Go Ray!!!!!

  • How I wish we could turn the clock back to the wonderful 70's when I was 20 something & everything was just so much better . Happy days , great memories ..............................

  • What memories this song brings back! It makes me smile!

  • @jpow1956 It reminds me of going to Opryland back in the day. It was such a fun place until the dirty bast%$#ds tore it down and build another mall. Nashville has never been the same.

  • I was 7 that year but I still remember hearing this awesome song...

  • Brilliant track, this brings back many good times had at the fun fair in the 70,s

  • asian american sing misty more please take a look

  • I recall hearing this song coming from a store in Dublin on a sunny summer afternoon in 1975. Great vocal by Ray Stevens over an outstanding production. I was with my fiance and we are now married almost 36 years. Always brings back happy memories whenever I hear it. David C.

  • Love it, just love it!

  • Even country fried, this tune is lovely.

  • Heard this when it was out and I was a kid, I was an adult til I found out that it was Ray's interpretation of a classic, am I wrong to say that Ray's version is best?

  • great tune..can't believe one person dislikes this

  • Marvelous! Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!

  • The best version of this classic.

  • wow ! simply brilliant,,,,,

  • I remember this and January, Down Down, Ms Grace, Come Up And See Me Make Me Smile, Bye Bye Baby,18 With A Bullet, Hold Me Close, Tears On My Pillow, Sing Baby Sing, The Hustle, 10cc's, I'm Not In Love, I Can't Give You Anything But My Love, Whispering Grass, Barbados, Sailing, Stand By Your Man and Bohemian Rhapsody .... A great year for chart music ... and much more .... A time when the Jukebox was King. No mobiles or computers, just music, lager, girls and sun, in 1975, when I was young ...!

  • @telstar1957 Now you're talkin' a great selection of top tunes there, Pete Wingfield...now there's a golden memory for sure. I'm mighty glad you didn't mention the Bay City Rollers or Telly Savalas in that year...lol

A great year it was and 10cc would get my vote as best single for I'm Not In Love, due to a fantastic production.... and I love 'em anyway!

    Thanks for listening.

  • @YCSMusic .... I did mention, Bye Bye Baby ..... and why not ..... it all helped to make a great years music, ....

also I forgot, Give A Little Love .... Ha ! It was a cracking year .... Minnie Riperton's, Loving You and so many more .... Com'on YCS, don't be mean, we enjoyed them all .... it was great .... Hard to believe it's 36 years ago now .... it only feels like yesterday ...!

  • @telstar1957 Fantastic year!! I was 16, and I remember all these hits so well.

  • @telstar1957 Sound words!

  • @telstar1957 Amen to that brother!

  • @telstar1957 Hey, I couldn't have put it better myself, u r so right! Plus Fox, Mud, Glitter Band, Andy Kim too...

  • avevo 16 anni nel '75, da allora l'ho riascoltata pochi mesi fa,è sempre piu' bella ed esaltante.

piace anche ai mie figli di 18 e 12 anni

  • semplicemente stupenda

  • I first heard this song in an episode of Magnum PI where Tom Selleck is forced to sing it at a kareoke.

  • I DO remember that hot summer. As a miltary wife, I had to drive my husband's Boss 302 Mustang across country to the next assignment. No airconditioning in that beast. It was a miserable trip but my mood always improved for a few minutes whenever this song came on the radio. Thanks Ray!!!!!

  • How refreshing to see positive comments for a change !!! xx

  • amazing song!!!

  • I first really heard this song watching an episode of Magnum PI where he has to sing it at a kareoke bar, awesome!

  • Knowing the superb talent that Ray Stevens is, he wouldn't have attempted this unless he tinkered with it and came up with this great arrangement.

  • One of the great stylizations of all time -

  • Legend has it this was knocked off in the studio at the end of a session. Probably the best thing Ray ever did.

  • I love it! Thank you so much for uploading it. It's the ONLY version of Misty I like.

  • I think this song is amazing, and it really is Ray Stevens and his vocal talent that makes it amazing !

Brings back misty memories from 1975, thanks Ray

    Paul T McKenna

  • This song always puts me in a good mood! Makes me smile! : )

  • i love johnny mathis version as well but, this one seems to have more "kick" makes me happier.

  • Quantas saudades, amores, sonhos...

  • great version of this song, what a talented guy Ray is.

  • love that singin banjo!

  • I've always liked Ray Stevens upbeat version of Misty. Living in Chicago in 1975, there were two pop music radio stations, WLS and WCFL. CFL was a true top 40 station at that time, WLS had a shorter play list and was basically a top 25 station. Misty didn't get too high on the charts, the song received some airplay on WCFL but not WLS.

  • Awesome version of a classic jazz standard. I've heard this song loooong time ago, but I didn't know at the time who it was who was singing. This is the first time I've seen Ray Stevens clean shaven, no beard or mustache.

  • Born Harold Ray Ragsdale. Glad to see no dislikes on this 1, so far! God bless you, Steve, for postin' it!

  • Again, the 70s pictures of when he was cleanshaven and a bit longer hair, he looked different.

  • Great version!

  • I Love this Song,,,,, Great!!!

  • THE BEST RENDITION OF ALL! EXCELLENT ARRANGEMENT.

  • Great musicians on this song, nice steel playing by JayDee Maness.

  • i love this song so much

  • I remember Magnum P.I and Tom Selleck sang part of this song in an episode.

  • Ray's version is filled with vocal licks that are so awesome... 1:14, 2:12 and especially 2:30 on...fantastic!!!

  • I have loved this song since I was a kid so one day I meets a Misty and so I married her and she had my baby boy a couple of years ago. I am a happy man :-)

  • Wasn't he known for parodies? I remember the name from The Streak and remembered this charting on AT40 and peaking in the top 20 during 1975, but I have always wondered whether this was a faithful interpretation of this song or a put-on. I like Johnny Mathis' version, FWIW.

  • This is the best version of this song. Takes me back to my teeny-bopper years, what a buzz.

  • 1976 Grammy Award

    Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)

    Ray Stevens (arranger) for "Misty"

    Too Cool!

  • Ray Stevens' remake of the song "Misty". Better than the original in my opinion!

  • Suns shining, stick this on the stereo, get in the car and I challenge you to be in a bad mood

  • Thanks, love Ray Stevens... just pure quality music

  • Takes me back to my high school days and those great 45's I used to listen to. Thanks!

  • Takes me back to my high school days and those great 45's I used to listen to. Thanks!

  • thanks for posting, im 15 again............

  • Misty by Ray Stevens in my prior comment meant to say "Upbeated Version" not "Updated Version" in comparison to original by "Johnny Matis".. has some spunk to to the Ray Stevens version...love it!! Sorry for the mix up Dogote82!

  • needs more cowbell :)

  • Love the updated version of Misty!

  • @Germaine1946 who does the updated version?

  • Oh my helly those were good 'ol days, 35 years ago. Golfin, hunting, bassin. Now its food gummin, wheel chair racin, and lookin for my glasses. For a few seconds, I was young again. Thanks, Ray.

  • I love this record, always have done..

  • Just great, takes me straight back to a happy carefree 1975 summer. Can't recall what I was doin' a week ago but sure remember that hot hot summer!

  • @FIREBLADEONE - Same for me, Fireblade. What a great summer '75 was. In fact, each summer in the 70's was great. It has turned out to be my favorite decade, though not that the others were bad. I was in my 20's in the 70's - full of youth and energy, strong body, making money for the first time in my life. I've sung this song a thousand times in my various cars.

  • @mudhens4ever Yep just one of those tunes, hear those first notes and the sun comes out again.

  • @FIREBLADEONE 'Can't recall what I was doin' a week ago but sure remember that hot hot summer!'

A big 'A' to that my friend, unforgettable summer in the UK the following year.

  • @FindoGask100 ...correct '76 was a real scorcher but sadly unlike a superb'75. I spent all of '76 as a 'guest' in a Spinal Injuries Unit after a m/cycle spill. By way of small compensation and when time allowed, pretty nurses would often push beds outside into the sunshine 'til we could bear the heat no longer! Just a chapter in life but I'm glad I witnessed that special 70's era.... Memories particularly good one's in some part define who we are right? Let 'Misty' play on, great every summer!

  • pleasant memory from the year I left home......and started this journey

  • I had forgotten this song, now I have heard it I love it,so thanks

  • out of all the songs he sings, this song is his best one. I can't stop listening to this song

  • It's one of those songs you can listen to whilst driving down the freeway with the top down, gotta love it

  • Needs more cowbell

  • Oh maaaan I have fond memories of this great record! Thanks so much

  • @cglives Thank you for sharing this info, and for your kindness too.

    RM63

  • The beginning of this song freaked me out as a kid...just the music bit in the first few seconds...it reminded me of some peg-legged hunchback chasing me down the garden path. I have grown to love this song and have sung it hundreds of times...mostly in the shower....

  • Mark Casstevens did a great job on banjo. For a long time i thought Bobby Thompson played banjo on this. Thompson usually played banjo with Ray Stevens, but was unavailable at the time of this recording. Mark told us he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

  • Awesome.

  • This was big around May '75 in Chattanooga, the date of my high school graduation.

  • @chg657 Good stuff. Always delighted to hear about graduations and music of that time. Good posting. We didn't really have graduations here in Australia, just a kick in the backside and out into the big wide world fella....I envy you guys sometimes :)

  • GREAT STUFF!!!!!

  • Abostultey suppperrrrrrr!!!

  • It's a strange thing; I don't like Errol Garner OR country western music. But Ray Stevens combined them and worked a little magic with this song. I remember my mom bringing home the single (THIRTY-FIVE years ago!!) and practically having to tie me down to get me to listen to it. I've loved this song ever since!! RIP, Ray.

  • @rocketman63 Oh my word am I a DOPE. I just received some indignant messages telling me that Ray's not only still with us, but still performing live music! I don't know who I could have confused him with....Please accept my apologies, Ray Stevens fans (and Ray!!). Everything else I posted is from the heart and holds true.

  • Marvelous..that's all I can say.

  • One of those cases where the cover is better than the original.

  • Great version, just shows how great a voice Ray has.

  • i like this version..when i was young,i thought this was the original..

  • YAH!!! I remember dancing around the living room when my Mom played this record. This song still makes me smile!

  • Top tune Thanks for posting it!

  • Love this song, his best by a mile...

    Yeeeeehaaaaw

  • I agree completely. The best version of the song by far.

  • I believe that this is the best version of Misty. Ray Steven brought it to another dimension.

  • I wish I could give this 10 stars!

  • What a FABULOUS version by Ray! I'm in steel guitar heaven!!! Thanks to belovia50 for sharing and to YCSMusic for posting!

  • Great song and very happy memories! (Much better than the 1960 Johnny Mathis version too!)

  • Great song...great singer.

  • why the fuck does this song make me so happy? ok ,not counting the couple bottles of wine, its a deadly tune. stumbled into a line dancing bar a few years ago. this deadly tune was playin and the rest is history.

  • YOU ARE NC..

  • great montage of pics and graphics to a great song, thanks!

  • Great Version, I bought this on a 45 when it came out.

  • An amazing and clever version of this classic. Thanks Ray!

  • just D I V I N E !!!

    Steve

  • @YCSMusic absolutely superb!! thanks for posting!!!

  • @YCSMusic Do you know where I can find "Piedmont Park" by Ray? I saw it on YouTube once but haven't seen it since.

  • @Idolheaded It's unknown here so I really don't know, it's not on Ray's YT channel (raystevensmusic) but he's a regular on here so why not drop him a message and see if he can upload it.

  • Love the video 5*****

  • One of his best thanks steve.

  • Thanks Stuart
