tensile test to concrete ?!?! are you sure ... i a m a student (civil dep.) and we dnt use tensile test on concrete, concrete isnt supposed to have high (or calculated) tensile strength, thats why we use steel :)
for concrete, as i said compression test is used ... the specimen in the American code is a cylinder (i dnt remember but i think its a 10 cm dia.) while the british code use cubes with side length 15 cm ...
the compressive strength of concrete vary ... sometimes it is 220 - 250 - 260 (not very good concrete) , 350 - 400 (good) , 450 - .... (thats the best) .. the codes states the min. strength :) .. in most codes not less than 250 (all the units are in kg/cm^2) .. sorry for my English :)

oh that's what this is called. i seen engineers do like a 10 cm diameter piece of concrete. and they had to make it as strong as possible.
how much weight did that withstand?
