Wow man that dojo is like the All Stars of Judo: Shinohara, Yamashita, Yoshida, Inoue....just incredible. Just think how much you could gain there. Probably more in one month than most Judoka gain in an entire year.
Damn, take a look at the size of that dojo ! Yoshida, Inoue and Yamashita under the same roof too. It would be like winning the lottery to even get a workout there.
He is the bravest if not the toughest MMA fighter out there so much bravery from a non striker to take the noble art of judo to the ring and own, or take ppl alll the way im tellin you man jus liek bas said do not underestimate yoshida
@khaledonia Hmmm brave sure, but you made it sound as if judo is half-assed art not capable of holding its own in the ring. In reality it goes something like this - he takes high-end judo and WIPES the floor with most fighters out there - that's not bravery that's pwnage.
@khaledonia How is he the bravest? Is he good? NO FUCKING SHIT HE'S GOOD, is he the best? I don't think so. Is he he the 'bravest', I don't know but I wouldn't make such a claim.
No. The white get signifies purity, they would wear a pure white gi under their armor. It was a thing they did to show there willingness to die a pure warriors death.
The kimono is ancient, the keikogi is 100-150 years old. At the time one of the attractions of Judo was it's modern, western style uniform because it had trousers rather than a hakama.
Kimono or armour, that's what they'd be wearing if they actually got into a fight. It was only after the meji restoration (1868) that someone (Kano) decided it was a good idea to create dedicated training clothes (keikogi), interestingly the original judogi didn't have sleeves, th jacket being modeled on firemen's uniforms. When sleeves were introduced they orginally stopped before the elbow, only when students complained of mat burn were they extended to their present length.
@wpagan2006 kendo is the art of sword fighting in ancient japan they trained in full armor.they did not train in judo they trained in aikido judo comes from aikido.just as jiu jitsu comes from ninpo(ninjutsu)
every time i see videos of non japanese training in japanese dojos i always see the non japanese wearing blue gis instead of white. and the japanese where white but not blue, is there a reason for this or just coincidence???
Well, there is no rule who wears blue or white, blue or white gi came from matches, with 1 wearing blue and 1 wearing white its easier for the referees to see who does what. Thats all. However, japanese judoka's usually ONLY wear white EXEPT in matches if they have to. And we westerners wear blue cuz its looks cool ;)
Hey, guys. Do you think the Gi makes you perform worse in MMA competition?? I mean, look at how sweaty and dehydrated Yoshida looks in that Gi. He looked even more over-heated against Wanderlei. I love the Gi, but I wonder if it does more harm than good
Hmm...that's interesting. You can argue that, but also there is evidence that it wears out your opponent: Cro Cop looked like a slob against Yoshida. Though stamina never was his strength.
I think it depends on the organization. If an organization doesn't allow the Sleeve chokes, then there's little use to the gi. However, you just can't deny that the gi is cool as hell. For entertainment purposes, the gi is great. It gives people the sense like a Hollywood fighting movie has become reality and that's why I love it. Have you guys seen the old UFC fight Goodridge Vs. Herrera. Not only did the crucifix look cool, but the fact that he had a Gi on made it look even cooler

@AudienceKiller66 Obviously you dont know your stuff... seeing as how in 1904 Mitsuyo Maeda who was a "JUDOKA" traveled around the world taking challenges from other styles. @AudienceKiller66 every resource on bjj agrees that it was judo that carlos learned,it may have been influenced by the mixed style matches and training maeda did before landing in brazil but it was still larely judo.At the time judo was still called jj even in japan, the live sparring minus atemi differentiated it from jj.

The white GI represents pureness in death . The samurai would wear a white gi under there armor to signify there readiness for death.
Blue is so u can see who's doing what in a match lol
SudoJudo1 3 years ago

No. The white get signifies purity, they would wear a pure white gi under their armor. It was a thing they did to show there willingness to die a pure warriors death.
SudoJudo1 3 years ago 2
The gi is about 100 years old, was never worn by samurai and is white because it avoids the expense of buying dye.
The samurai, depending on how rich he was, would wear an armour robe under his armour.
ketsan 3 years ago
you may be right about the dye and the armor robe, but the gi is older than 100 years, that much i do know.

The kimono only 100 years old? No, they used a white kimono, also known as a Gi

Lol what are you talking about?
Go watch a judo match. One where they go to the ground and somebody gets choked out or put in an arm bar.
Or better yet. Do a Seoi-nage to someone on concrete with full force.
What are you talking about no finishing?
Judo = throws + submissions
Educate yourself. Jiu-Jitsu and Judo are one and the same.
