They don't make him look human anymore bc we know he's not human. Like in MK1 we saw him and we're like "Oh yeah. His name is Reptile and he wears green. That makes sense." Then MK2 comes out and we see that fatality where he eats his opponents head. "Whoa he really IS some type of reptilian humanoid." Plus he's more of an individual with scales and all that stuff.

It's not that his older look was bad, I just found that it's design didn't stand out among all the other ninjas (Sub-Zero, Scorpion, etc.)

But with his new design (MK9 version) is able to stand out enough for him to seem like his own character, but not to different like the version at 0:36.

Don't get me wrong, both versions are badass, I just think this new one fits him more.
