  • Will This work on the palm pixi

  • damn this looks super fucking hard

  • no step 5?

  • I'm on the fence about the pre, but things like this really turn me off to this. I'm not super big into computers and not sure if I can do all this. I mena what is this putty thing? does it just come up when you plug in to a computer? once you have root access do you have to keep going back and manually adding code? I'v researched alot of app's and code and all seem a bit complicated for an average person.

  • if u mean to get the phone this is basically a hack

    and completely unnecessary

  • also note this is a fresh palm pre, not rooted reset with webos doctor

  • i get to click ok in putty and it closes, when i chose to never close on exit ( window) it says closed by remote host, network error connection refused.

i am using vista 64 with your downloads any help?

  • Where/ what is the USR file?

  • ok I found the usr Folder... is that what you mean by file?

  • You have a good taste in music! Evanescence and Hollywood Undead!

  • what is the song that plays first

  • Black Dihlia by Hollywood Undead

  • I'm just going to forego using sftp and access image files using ssh.

Where did you find the palm image at startup/shutdown? I think you changing that to the monster logo is the coolest image change.

  • hehe...I found it. Sorry.

  • When you try to login to your pre using WinSCP there is a window that talks about some key. Your options are to Update, Add and a few other things. I'm pretty sure you only get these options the first time you try it because the options in your video are different.

  • Oh yea sorry, yea just hit add and it wont ask you again

  • I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I did everything exactly how you did on the video, but I can't log into my pre using WinSCP. It keeps saying that my phone is closing the connection and asks me if the host is an SFTP server. I've flashed the phone 4 times and followed the instructions exactly how they are in the documentation and exactly how you have it in your video 2 times each, and it still doesn't work. Dunno what to do. lol

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

  • Your on a 64bit OS only thing i can think of is maybe winSCP or PuTTY has a 64 version

  • I'm on a 32bit OS. I dunno :(. I'll keep trying different things. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

  • Idk what your doin wrong but these are the exact steps i did and mine works just fine you must be missing a step or a command isn't taking

  • Yeah. I dunno. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

  • Should I not update my key when using WinSCP, but just click add?

  • what do you mean update your key?

  • There is a difference in the text that you posted for step 2 than the one you show in the video. The second red text in the one we have is the 5th text in the video.

  • I know its different i filmed the video then noticed that i copied stuff that wasn't commands so i edited the text. Just follow the video as to which document to open and then go down the line copy and paste all the red commands

  • When you said copy the text in order did you mean with the video or in order in the txt from top to bottom?

  • I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but what should be the host name?

  • U know man sorry I got it I got confused

  • I'm having trouble installing novacom.

  • what OS are you running and is it 32 or 64 bit?

  • 64 bit

  • It looks like it installs my Pre's drivers alright but then it asks me about a novacom linux

  • Ok the problem is that driver is for 32 bit i'll upload the 64bit driver when i get home tonight

  • cool thanks

  • 64 bit Novacom has been uploaded its in the description

  • How do you get into that "find" bar?

  • You mean at the very begining when you type in the cheat code?

  • Yes

  • Just start typing the cheat code while nothing is open on the phone

  • gotcha thanks

  • dam i did everything and when i login to winnscp i get "Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?"

  • Yea that is the 4th step i believe. Did you reboot your Pre? Also make sure you select "just Charge" when you connect your Pre to your comp

  • ok i think i found the problem. when im editing the myusername ALL=NOPASSWD: /opt/libexec/sftp-server i press esc wq and i dont think it saves. it tells me 'q' is not implemented in the bottom left corner in a grey box

  • Ok once you've added in the 2 lines you press "esc" then type ":wq" you need to have the : b4 the wq

  • i am having a similar problem to scorpio209 when i try to log into Winscp i get error code 127 which is fixed by open ssh. does this mean i didnt install the open ssh correctly? it was also asking me about host running a SFTP server

  • Ok try redoing from Step3 and continue from there on make sure all the commands take

  • alright i redid step three but at step 7 when i enter my password it says permision denied please try again

  • you shouldn't be entering your password on Step3 #7 but you can try putting "sudo" b4 the command and see if that will help. If not take a screenshot and email it to me

  • I'm getting an SFTP error too.

Connection has been unexpectedly closed. Server sent command exit status 1.

Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?

So, I tried to redo step 4, but I get an error saying that root is not in the sudoers file.

Should I reflash and start all over?

  • First make sure you have the right settings when trying to connect, your IP the port and the port number.

After you have created your own user on your phone you no longer use the root user. Use your username and if you need permission to do something put "sudo" at the beginning of the command

  • If I put sudo at the beginning of a command, I get this error: root is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

  • Are you still trying to run commands as "root" or are you under the username you made?

  • I'm not entirely sure how to tell the difference. I just followed your instructions, and when WinSCP wouldn't boot, I tried to redo step 4 verbatim to what is there.

  • When you first open PuTTY do you login with your username? Try redoing Step2, Sudo, and Step3

  • holy shit thanks :D

do you have to do all that every time you wanna change someting?

  • lol np :)

No this only needs to be done once.
