Why did the 2 stroke stop production? People say the strokers drink more fuel but I would say that is only so far as you press on the pedal. We had s V24 at our generator company about 10 years ago to build into a 60Hz generator set. It was 2X V12 back to back. It ramped up so fast it smoked the fan belt so we had to put a soft start govenor on it. Would they be putting common rail injection on them now to clean the act up a bit?
@rushymoto EMD still makes 2-strokes! There's also a new start-up making modern opposed-piston engines called Achates Power, google them. They are good at publishing papers and uploading technical videos, too. Two-strokes are also still the only kind of power plant used on board large ships such as container carriers, car carriers, tankers and bulk cargo ships. The world's largest engine, producing over 100,000 hp, is a two-stroke 14-cylinder diesel of Swiss design (Wärtsilä-Sulzer).
