I've visited the Elephant Conservation Centre in the video. The mahuts treat the animals with all the dignity due.to such incredible beasts. If you want to see something unnaturally cruel then you should see the disgusting sight of these animals that have to perform in tourist areas. But not there in Lampang.

These elephants live on a reserve. They are most likely rescues from logging businesses and street beggars who use baby elephants to beg. Training them to do things like this from time to time is a way to earn enough enough to continue running the sanctuary. Elephants are intelligent creatures that enjoy new things, and I'm sure they'd much rather be there getting to make noise now and again than being beaten to move fallen trees. Most of the time they are permitted to roam on their own anyway.

it's a shame that these beautiful creatures are subject to such indignity. they're elephants not musicians or playthings for our amusements. makes me think we humans have no hope or will to continue if we can't respect what's around us

I hope you're joking. Being a horse owner I know that certain animals get intense satisfaction from doing things for humans espescially if rewarded. These elephants don't think the way we do. They don't sit there and pine for the fjords. Instinct would make them run off into the wild if allowed but that doesnt mean they don't enjoy doing simple tasks. That is,espescially since they have a high intelligence.

Anyway i too have mixed feelings about alot of these animal vids.. for example.. you can get a cat to let you dress them, but is it because they like it? or because they fear your.. or fear not being fed etc..
