Back when I was 5 or 6 i saw this video and got terrible nightmares from those worms on his face at 4:29. But I kept wathcing this because i liked the song. And i havent seen this since.
I remember back in 2003 VH1 did a program called worst US #1s and they picked this along with Kool and the Gang's celebration as with a few other weird choices. Fucking pricks, so what's better than this then? all that Hip hop shite that goes to #1 all the time in the States?
hey, we may only have lady gag-ah to listen to, but it''s not as bad as....oh wait, yeah it is. Crap. Music today is like this video where you're in a gray and zombie like existence, and then like in the video where he has flashbacks of spiders and scorpions, replace that with a leering image of lady gag-ah yell-singing on you as she's wearing a meat gown and her oh so feminine bulge is jumping out at you. Modern music=winning!
Rendition. Prolong Detention. a little MK ultra.. OBAMA should have been in this video haha.. GREAT SONG.... THAT'S RIGHT OBAMA WAS BARRY SEROTOS then!!!!!
80's yeahh good music.. i agree when music WAS really music . im 22 and a love 80's. today music is made to made.. beacause is cool.. to get some money.. and because its cool to have fans, today music has no meaning.. there s no soul.. sorry my english :P kiss Portugal
@Rita4693 Rita, bear in mind, that in the 80s much music considered brilliant today was seen as sounding rather crap, like New Romantics, Italo Disco and most pop music in general.
My friend was so fucking surprised when I played this, she thought because i'm black I wouldn't know anything about this type of music, OH HOW SHE WAS WRONG ----- I KNOW GOOD MUSIC WHEN I HEAR IT!!!!
@DrOCkABlEs I get that response from people all the time. I get a kick out of those times when they automatically assume that I like hip hop..and discover that they are wrong. That usually happens during awkward times, like getting into a cab and watching the cabbie immediately switch the music from Led Zeppelin to 50 Cent. :)
The level of musicianship on this song is just incredible. All the subtle parts in the arrangement. The only music you can find like this is by the old masters that made it originally. These young bands don't have the skills or the chops to make a record like this today.
People aren't allowed to make music like this anymore. It seems like so much music made after 1990 is garbage. But at least now we've got Lady Gaga ... *sigh
@jabezscratch lady gaga - the same garbage, but in the the precious wrapping. But, you absolutely right about allow or not in the music! You got the concept!!
haha that is too funny.. Dude the best part is how many people have tried to rip off beats etc.. They know this song is a legend. Seriously who doesn't know this song.
Be yourself... you've got to want to succeed. Good words. Video is kinda weird though. I totally relate to and appreciate the comments about music of the 80's. It is so much better than the stuff we have now. In ten years, maybe it will come back as retro?
When I first saw this video, I verbally expressed how disappointed I was that they didn't make a video that told a story. Then, when it changed into a concept video, right after I expressed my disappointment, the friend I was watching this with looked at me as if to say, "How did you know?"
@aphillynative I don't know what the B-side track was, because I purchased the album it came from, "90125", so named because that was the catalog number of that particular album. Also, the 45rpm single of this song was a little shorter than the album track, as was often the case in those days. AM radio stations usually didn't want songs over about three-and-a-half minutes, but FM radio would usually play the album length tracks.
Great song and all but wtf is going on in this video? Was the first half with the band playing like an outtake, when they realized that Yes were a bunch of goofy looking dudes with bad hair, and they should instead make some dramatic commentary on corporate culture?
@Technosphile The joke is that the song is worthy of a concept video which tells a story, but this long version of it begins as merely footage of the band playing the song.
This video has to win an award as the most damn random video in the world! I loved all the random crap just happening in this video.. LOL.. great music, miss the 80's. :)
