  • I love watching these kinda hits. But then again, I am also the guy who was kicked out of his hockey league because I enjoy injuring other players, fuck man I swung my stick at some guys head like an ax.

  • The New Matt Cooke, since the Penguins drafted him...

  • Did the guy get a injury?

  • Geiler Check Tom... Wir leiden mit dir... 20 Spiele sind echt etwas zu hart!!! Viele Grüsse aus deiner Heimatstadt Landshut!!!

    ...Mfg Chris

  • to all the people that are ripping into this guy for a "dirty" hit i'd like to hear what he should have done, he didnt jump, he coasts from the other side of the goaline, and he tucked his elbows in, was he just supposed to give Murphy a free pass?

  • @321400913ufa wow....

  • ok.. first off, I'm not saying that I like this hit, but it really irritates me to see people not knowing what the rules are.. yes, this hit was a charge due to the lack of coast leading up to the hit.. however, the top 2 comments are wrong about everything else.. not Interference- since the player makes a deliberate attempt at playing the puck, he is free game to recieve a body check.. not Elbowing- if the arms are tight to the body and no elbow is extended, it's not elbowing.. continued->

  • -> continued:

the player did not leave his feet prior to contact (pause at 0:18 of this vid to see).. and probably the most common misconception this year is that lots of people think that any hit to the head in pro hockey is illegal.. that is not true.. BLINDSIDE headshots were banned by the NHL this year (I'm not sure what the junior rules are with headshots) but head-on collisions that include contact to the head are not considered illegal hits (otherwise, taller players couldn't hit)

  • whoever thinks the 20 game suspensions are unnecessary are obviously not in tune with the rulebook.

  • Not bad.

  • christ he got steve downied!!!

  • He would not have done this to Tyler J. Brown !!!

  • talent???? who,,, From Tomas, just a low class cheap shot!!! this is not hockey..wheres the "talent"???

  • 20 games .. fuckin joke is this hockey or badminton? This seems like a clean hit to me.. Keep you're head up kids.. You learn this in atome.

  • That was the Panzerfaust!

  • the refs hand was up before he hit him

  • @Miramichier2 there was a penality being called from someone being hooked

  • @Mertius1 ah ok

  • I think the punishment wasnt enough, he clearly intendid in to take murphy out of the game. He should have been suspended for the season. No mercy

  • Kuhnhackl isn't a dirty player. Bad hit. Illegal. Suspension needed.

  • Checks like this ruin people's lives from the after effects. Anyone who says this is "clean" or "just a part of the game", is straight fucked in the head, and dilusional about what the great sport of hockey is really about.

  • german tanks, rolling again.

  • What a gay foul... :-D

  • creamed like a dish of fresh peaches. i love hockeyy!!!!!

  • meh fuck it 15-20 years ago this woulda been laugphed at

  • I was hoping the Flames would draft this guy but the Carolina scooped him up. Hope he is okay.

  • This was a clean hit. I don't know why he got suspended, boarding to say the most. He was just finishing a check, what's he going to do? slow down so he doesnt injure the guy?

Injuries are all a part of the game, its a contact sport, you can't suspend a guy for checking someone.

  • @immasecksee . I totally agree. All these do gooders are going to ruin the game anylizing every big hit. Its supose to be a rough sport people. If u dont like it dont watch and dont play. But most of all if u dont like how rough the sport is dont get your kids into the game of hockey. Its a sport for warriors. Skills alone should not get you into the NHL. If you cant fight or hit or take a hit dont play hockey. Go play baseball. Stop trying 2 change the game of hockey. LEAVE IT ALONE PUSSY'S!

  • @MrMurphdog17 hell yeah. fucking pussys on this website think they know every thing about sports

  • down and it results in hits like this. I do not want to see Murphy get hurt and I hear he is skating again, so he is fine. But checking should be allowed again at nine, we should never had been like the Americans and changed it. Teach the kids to put there heads up, take a f*n hit and play the game like it should be played. Also, there is no respect today for players and that is another reason you are seeing more head checks. Cut the homer refs in minor hockey and the shit would stop

  • Plus, it used to be shown by coaches that they are to turn prior to getting hit, then they would kick and yell like they have been shot. Next thing you know kids are getting penalties or kicked out of games and the kid that cried wolf is on ten seconds later. It is those kids and coaches that have ruined the game of hockey. If those kids would have gotten kicked out for faking, then those kids wouldn't do it anymore. Its now that these kids know they cannot get hit, so they put there head

  • what are hockey players to stand around like the Tampa Bay - Philly game, ya that was a great game. Hitting is part of hockey and it used to be taught in Canada at the age of nine that you are to keep your head up. But now checking is allowed at 11 and it takes a couple of years for it to be properly understood on how to make a hit. Now that means they are bigger and stronger still not hitting properly so the elbows come out or the knees come out.

  • Kuhnhackl is just doing what his 'heroes' have been doing to each other for years - and they get rewarded with millions of dollars a year for doing so - so really folks is anything ever going to change? adolescent punks on skates trying to injure each other : So much for hockey - it is dead.

  • thats so unlike Keunhakl! i know from Windsor

  • good , fuck that rangers

  • I'm not trying to spin this on Murphy and say it was his fault, but almost anybody coming around to make that hit would have destroyed him just because of how low he was to the ice. But it was not elbowing; there are players who like to hit by keeping their hands tucked close to their chest, and then extend them once they make contact. It can be safe, but when done like this, it's brutal. Hit to the head; no doubt, but not by elbowing.

  • Future steve downie

  • luked144 - charging yes, thats about it. He left his feet after the hit. Finally, a clean hit, minus the fact it was charging, but his elbows don't come up and he hits him like a freight train. Not like watching these kids go to make a hit and the elbow is leading, and all they get is two minutes. This kid has never done anything vicious but gets as many games as when Zac Kassien hit when he did jump at somebody. I do not want to see anyone get hurt but kids need to keep their heads up.

  • Keep your head up. We learn that when we're 15.

  • @hem307 when your 15? you learn that when u first lace em up

  • nice hit lets get more like this lol.. not the cleanest hit but it was good to see...

  • @hiphopviolators r u kidding me he left his feet, jumped in the air he didnt even have the puck wtf r u taking about dont you know anything about hockey, also an elbow in the face. of couse he got suspended for 20 games i would of gave for games.

  • Anybody who says that's a legal and clean hit, you don't have have a fucking clue what you're talking about and you're not a true hockey fan. ANY hockey fan who knows basic rules knows that this was a charge, he led with his shoulder and elbow and he came in at full impact. I am amazed Murphy was even able to skate off on his own power. That is the exact kind of play we need out of hockey. There is NOTHING clean about the hit, to the people trying to spin this around on Murphy that is just sad!

  • FFS,,,Keep your fucken head up,,,Thats hockey,,,,it was a clean hit...Does anyone remember that hit on that bell kid from Wendle Clark?...Same shit just keep your god damb head up....

  • hands moving at 30 mph shooting a hard rubber disc around at over 100mph. Its not scrabble. People will get hurt unfortunetly. I enjoy big hits. These guys get paid a lot of money for this. There are far more dangerous jobs that are much worse paid - Police officer, fireman etc..

    Sorry for ranting.

  • FFS,,,Keep your fucken head up,,,Thats hockey,,,,it was a clean hit....

  • That defo deserved a suspension dont get me wrong. He didnt have the puck he charged him and he jumped a little bit it looks like. All that being said I think hockey is going in the wrong direction with all this head shot buisness. I dont like seeing people getting hurt but hitting is a part of the game. Can you imagine if they took hitting to the head out of boxing? The players know its a dagerous sport and they choose to play it. Its eleven 200lb guys with blades on their feet, sticks in their

  • that was a good hit

  • the guy who got hit should've got the 20 games so he can spend time learning how to keep his head up.

should've been a 2 minute penalty at most.

  • bullshit call.

  • Clean hit, bullshit suspension. hockey is being fucked up with this bullshit.

  • I really hope Kuhnhackl learns from this,he is awesome player but hits like these are not needed,

  • Wow. There are so many reasons that hit was illegal. 20 games is pretty understandable. Charging - player was still striding as he came in to hit him (big no). Interference - player missed the puck entirely therefore making this hit illegal without the other infractions. Elbowing - clear elbow to the jaw. Not to mention he left his feet to hit him which is also a big no and not necessary considering the size difference and speed differential. Clearly a hit with an intent to injure.

  • @luked144 no way... maybe a charging cause his crossover stride during the final turn, but the guy missing the puck is still open to a hit as he's 'played' the puck. The checker tucked his arms into his own stomach, but the guy he was hitting was ducked down low so took the arms to the face. The guy left his feet because of the force and because his center of gravity was higher, not a jump. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP.

  • @luked144

I somewhat disagree with you, the player stop moving his legs at the goal line which was a good meter and a half from the hit. It was an elbow penalty, I am not going to deny that, his elbow did hit the face. But the circumstance didn't help. Murphy being crouched and Kuhnhackl being almost upright. Khunhackl also never extended his elbows out he kept them tucked in. If you watch the close up he only left the ground after the hit was given which means it was his momentum

  • @luked144

that launched him straight up and seeing how Murphy was crouched he could only go up. Do I think it was an intent to injure, NO. Do I think he should have got a few games, YES (maybe 5). So all in all a crappy call by the OHL to give 20 games... how many will Ryan Rupert get for his clear intent to injure slash Friday Nov. 11? I hop the rest of the season plus more games next year if Khunhackls hit was a 20 game suspension.

  • @luked144 still striding as he went to hit him isnt bad the kid was trying to finish his hit but he never seen murphy miss the puck he was skatin at full stride and the net blocked his view of the puck, an elbow to the jaw was because murphy was so low and tryin to stop and get the puck, he never left his feet to hit him, the force of him running into murphy lifted him off his feet, clearly not an intent to injure clearly a player tryin to get his team going with a big hit, not intent to injure

  • @Hcorehockey dude when you take a run at someone with that speed, your obviously trying to fuck someone up. dont try to deny it.

  • @Hcorehockey Your an idiot. Just because Murphy was low doesn't excuse the fact that he elbowed him in the jaw. It's still an elbow.

  • @luked144 and 20 games is rediculas

  • @ ppghflyguy. Have you ever heard of charging or checking to the head. Both could be called here, but checking to the head or neck is a new rule asnd thats what happened. Look at Sidney Crosby and see what can happen if you get checked near the head? It could cost a career. 20 games games lok much, but what could have happenend to the career of player who got hit? These checks should be banned and plasyers who don't care should be punished hard so they will never do this again.

  • Thats alot of.....horsepower!?

  • gfgb

  • and i thought shanahan was being ridiculous with his suspensions, this is absolutely absurd, it was a great hard hit where he appeared he left his a feet a bit before contact and there was some incidental contact with the head since murphy is smaller and had his head down, but 20 GAMES for this? no suspension if it was me but since there is so much talk about head shots, just to fit in with shanahan and other leagues i would hav suspended him a couple games, wake up and realize its hockey

  • im playin hockey and this is not a foul haha

  • @MisterKitKit

you're playing hockey and calling a foul? get the fuck out of here. could also be called for charging, elbowing, and a possible unsportsmanlike for jumping into his hit at that speed could easily be considered intent to injure.

  • *The half in the bag version

  • God damn this commentator sounds just like Mr. Plinkett

  • its just cause hes the star d man in the ohl, thats all it is, and the fact that Tomas is german and not canadian, lot of factors at work here

  • I Think 5 would have been good, would have got the message across without being completely ridiculous.

  • take the 0 off of the 20 then maybe you have the right amount of games suspended

  • yeah this is a charge but 20 games is over the top

  • hockeys gettng really stupid now with all these suspensions

  • Hockey is becoming soft!

  • that guy just got shitted on

  • Wtf?! 20 games for this? It's a good fucking check, keep your head up, kid.

  • watched this game live at the bar... Man i didnt know what happened

  • Glad he's okay

  • Boom!

  • Clean hit

  • @pghflyguy Charging all the way dude

  • @pghflyguy He left his feet, took more than three strides (charge) and it was a head shot, which they are trying to get rid of, so yes he deserves 20 games

  • @balvanca ...it is charging but just cuz he left his feet (should still get suspended for that) . it doesnt matter how many strides you take .he couldve taken 30 from the opposite end of the rink. as long as you glide before making contact and dont take strides directly into the other player. and as far as the head contact.how the hell are you supposed to avoid someone's head when its at your waist because he was staring at the puck ? he put himself in a bad position. 20 games is absurd

  • @pghflyguy im sorry but are you fucking retarded? its called a headshot. they're illegal, especially in the minor leagues. i wouldnt be surprised if that guy never walked again

  • @pinhead739 . yes, I'm clearly retarded for knowing the rules of the game and disagreeing with the direction the league is going in to try to take the violence away from hockey. Hockey is a raw physical game, if this hit happened 10 years ago no one would have anything to say except to tell Murphy to learn how to play with his head up. but instead theyre trying to protect him for making the biggest mistake you can as a hockey player.

  • @pghflyguy dude this is a sport where you can get beat the shit out of each other, something you could go to jail for months if you did on the street, and only get 5 minutes to sit in a box. if you honestly think they're taking the violence out of hockey just because the league had enough of their stars retiring at 30 due to head injuries, yeah, you're pretty retarded.

  • @pinhead739 I understand trying to protect players by disallowing malicious and intentional hits to the head. But I don't think they should put a physical player at fault for a clean hit just because the person on the other end put himself in a bad position, cuz in the long run players will eventually get used to playing with their head down all time just because they know that no that theyre not allowed to get. I don't know, I guess I'm just an old school hockey player at heart.

  • @pghflyguy Correct all the way, if the dipshit didn't have his head up his ass this is just a big hit

  • @pghflyguy Gotta disagree here. Dude is taking strides just before the hit. An obvious charge imo.

  • @pghflyguy ARE U A FUCKING IDIOT! HE LEFT HIS FEET WHICH YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO, AND ELBOWED HIM RIGHT TO THE HEAD! HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVES, Murphy had his back to the play and was in a vunerable position, there's absolutely no way he could've protected himself, he will most likely miss the world juniors now and this is almost an indentical hit on Ben Fanelli(also from Kitchener) from 2009, he fractured his skull and missed two seasons, he's only just recovered.

  • @tmlcrosbyfan i wish my caps lock would work so i could yell through the screen too.

  • @pghflyguy Murphy is one of the top defensive prospects, and this could seriously derail or threaten his career, it took two years for Fanelli to recover, and Murphy is a much highly-touted prospect than Fanelli. Go watch the Liambas-Fanelli hit again and tell me if you stlill think this only deserves two games, Liambas was suspended for the rest of the OHL season when he did, effectively ending his junior career, so why would this be two games when an eerily similiar hit two seasons ago wasn't?

  • @tmlcrosbyfan Completely different hits.

  • @tmlcrosbyfan whether he is an elite prospect or not should not determine how bad of a hit it was, this hit was barely illegal, it was a real hard hit where he caught murphy with his head down at speed, it was not an elbow to the head cus the guys arm was at his side and murphy is smaller and had his head down, could his elbow hav made contact w/ his head? yes but his arm was at his side and it wasnt his intention, he left his feet a bit but not much, he only flew over cus murphy went under him

  • Comment removed

  • @pghflyguy He left his feet and hit the guy in the head. I know it's kind of like the Torres hit where Seabrook was looking at the floor and wondering if he should pick up some chicken after the game, but the fact that he left his feet to deliver the hit and that it resulted in a headshot, 2 games is probably a bit much. I was thinking more 6-8, but this isn't the NHL. The CHL has been cracking down on things like this for years now, so it's not that much of a surprise.

  • @NoQuarter57 agreed, thank you for responding with a logical response that wasn't fueled by blind emotion and ignorance. you sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

  • @pghflyguy you can see him taking up the elbow...

  • @pghflyguy its 20 games because they are sending a message. and because he left his feet and it was a headshot. plus the guy was hurt so yah

  • what will this show us? germans r garbage at hockey

  • @aquabulll is that why germany reaches the half-final at 2010? :D :D

  • @supp0rter9 its called semi-finals, and that was the peak of your hockey franchise

  • @praisekallio may be. so?

  • Kruppstahl

  • Matt Cooke is the Lady Byng winner compared to this.

  • close call for a great looking prospect thank god he is ok

  • Congrats to the OHL for standing up and giving Kuhnhackl a well deserved suspension! Hope other leagues will follow this road

  • This check is way to dirty. 20 games is a hard descision, but see what could have happened to Murphy ( compared to the check Crosby had to take and still isn't able to play again ) I think it's the right descision!

  • disgusting hit

  • i think he left his feet a little guise

  • looks like raffi torres hit on seabrook.

  • @skatevid2 no its doesnt u fukin idoit

  • @MrBreakdancer18 actually it does, this hit is much dirtier though.

  • @MrBreakdancer18 the irony of the english language huh?

  • isnt 20 games a bit too much though?

  • @stepbak91 ohl isn't fucking around this year, heavy suspensions all around

  • @stepbak91 I think 20 is about right...he went way overboard on this hit.

  • Absolute bullshit play by Kuhnhackl

  • Practically the same as Steve Downie's hit a couple of years ago, and the suspension is the same.

  • This is what needs to start happening in the NHL ....

  • Absoleutly terrible omg

  • 20 games? WOW! The OHL isn't messing around here.

  • @LowellDevil dave branch needs to be fired

  • @bauer444 I don't know who that is, I don't follow junior hockey in Canada all that much, but ok.

  • Great Decision... I just dont understand why players need to destroy their opponents -.-

  • 20 games is too harsh. 5 to 10 at the most. Not trying to over defend it, but as said below he caught a bad break.

  • @RedWingFan1340 teach them what not to do young that way when they get to the nhl they dont do it. 20 games good decision.

  • Caught a bad break by Murphy missing the puck BUT he was coming in way too hot to begin with.

  • makes me sick
