75% of Hard Rock Drummers do this... There are very FEW drummers out there that are truly great. The ones that can improvise and play along with anything regardless of the style are the true artists.
yea, i use a power shifter, and i can shuffle my foot back and forth to create a fast double hit against the bass drum...it took me a year to get it up to full capacity...i dont think i have of video of it yet, but ill see what i can do...
Beautiful. The next time somebody posts Joey Jordison doing this as his entire solo and tries to justify his brilliance....I'll refer them here to show a gentleman in a shirt chilling after work and blowing him out the water :-) Fantastic educational vid.
It seems that you think a quadruplet is a group of four sixteenth notes. That's completely wrong, tuplets change the division of time. I've never seen quadruplets but they could be used in 6/8 time. In 4/4 the term is meaningless.
@ 2:49. almost sounded like he was gonna break into a Zep song :D , great vids , always wanted to play drum.......... lil old to start but by god , sure would be fun to learn .... especially since I'm a huge Zep fan ,and more of a Bonzo fan , I know where to come to get thye basics n get started ...... fkn drums are expensive as fk tho if my memory serves me coorectly ... damn
@vansdrumming im already pretty experienced with double bass drum fills, about 3 years, but at around 3:45, can you please please either tab it out or just tell me your technique and/or sticking?
His passion and love for the drumset is evident in his teachings. I particularly like how he demonstrates the riff slowly enough to grasp the feel and then just takes it to the jams for a few dozen seconds or so. Good stuff and most enjoyable to watch. I bought his DVD and have learned a lot from it. If you're into good instructionals for drumset techniques, go ahead and add his to your list of 'must haves'. You won't regret it.
@lillidys well, yeah, but playing at really slow tempos (like 60bpm) with a metronome should help ease out any choppiness in your playing provided you speed it up gradually.
It's funny, you do this at a live show, and the crowd will eat out of your hand, even though it only takes a few months to learn. However, if you try some latin 4 way syncopation, nobody would even think about clapping.
Great lesson, and after seeing this and the Bonham triplets video, I subscribed.
@JustaMSdude yeah all of joey jordison's drum solo are all quads and then everyone is like WOOOOOOOOO! when hes just playing a simple thing over and over again
@JustaMSdude Lmao, that is so true dude. Case and point, "Joey Jordison is a good drummer." or some variant of such, is said on almost every drum video on YouTube.
@JustaMSdude haha yea i guess you gotta adapt to the listeners ears. people just want to watch a crazy-ass double bassing, sweaty drummer go wild and fill their ears with toms and double bass
@JustaMSdude yeh....thats sad how what you say is true, atleast some people are smart on here... and btw getting REALLY good at quads does eventually take skill for uber long sessions/fills etc.
i always though this back and forth shit was gay until i heard it used in the drum fill in Lamb of God's "ruin" its fuckin crazy. except its doubles over triples, not doubles over doubles.
my drum instructor can do this without a double bass. he uses the slider technique. hey pushes the pedal down and slides up his foot and catches the bounce of the pedal. he can go pretty fast but i dont know if he can go crazy like you did at 3:00
Wow dude. I figured you were, like, a band teacher. You very well may be, but I saw the whole double bass quadruplets thing and I was confused. I watched this video.. And Holy. Shit. You are good. How long have you been playing?
