How far I can trace my family roots is hardly relevant here. In the end we all have our ancestors in Africa.

But as you ask, I can say back to 1220 AD with 100% certainty. One branch is likely come from the Møre Jarl, which again decends from Ynglinga clan. Their story is chapter one in Kringla Heimsins by Snorri.

If your point is to state that the icelanders came from all of the countries Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland and England, I will not argue against that. You icelanders are a mix of heritage.

The irish munk Dicuil tells about irish monks visiting Iceland in 795. However, remains of norse style longhouses from the 7th C. have been found in Herjolvsdal on Heimaney. This makes the Landnámabok and the sagas incomplete.

Well thats my point. I am tired of norwegians saying that we are vikings from Norway when we are much more than that. It is relevant becaus we are talking about icelanders which is a young nation. How we mixed in the beginning has made us to the people we are to day. Not norwegian, swedish or danish.

In year 1200, almost all people living in Iceland was Norwegians, never read about danes or swedes in the iceland sagas. Norwegian and Icelandic is more related then swedish and danish aswell. Same goes for faeroes.

If Iceland got populated with danes and swedes after 1200 i dunno, but before that it was mostly Norwegians, it was first populated by Norwegians who fled from Harald Hårfagre(Skallagrim family to name one).
