  • Try to get your spotter to let it down with you so you dont hurt yourself while bouncing it off your chest. Also with help down I think you might be stuck 2-6 inches off your chest seeing as all your doing is bouncing in off your chest to get you out of that initial weak spot for you.

    I agree 100% as a trainer I advised all my clients from doing this technique used in the video due to high chance of injuries. The weight used here is very high and impressive but your shoulders and rib gage will be paying the price in the long run. Ask yourself is it worth it?? Reguardless nice efforts and do your best to stay safe and fit. Good job

  • That was a lot of weight. Your vid is impressive but most of the tension occured during your negatives and you also bounced the bar off of your chest. Try counting to two on the way down and 2 on the way up, and not bouncing the bar. Your bench will be more impressive.

  • Just keep training and your bench press will continue to increase. I bench press 100lbs my freshman year, but bench press 225 by my senior year. I only compete in bench press and curl competitions. So, I don't have a big squat or deadlift. I do both lifts in training, but don't plan to compete in it anytime soon.

  • i cant bounce that much off my chest because my chest is almost bone.... but when you get more muscle its easier when you bounce off chest. I mean its still a very very good bench press. In my weight comps they make you pause for 1 second and then push up

  • I do pause my other max effort lifts. I just don't like to pause regular bench press because it feels uncomfortable on my joints. Again, it's just a training video. I have been competing for 15 years. So, I have a lot practice pausing in competition. I do have a competition video of me pausing 491 on my site. Good luck with your training!

  • I use to max 465, but with my diet and lack off sleep, school and work, I don't lift these days. i miss it and definitely will go back after i graduate. Albeit, I want to be in better shape than before. Without the bulk, I'm not sure I'll be able to get that strength back, It'll be a lot tougher to make it in the 500s. PS I hate weaklings who don't work hard and think we take steroids to get that kind of strength, it's part genetics (I'm naturally big) and love for hitting the weights.

  • does anyone know if I get big muscules and after couple of years i stop training and stop drinking protein shakes and creatine won't my muscules become small or smaller again?

  • you will get weaker and gain fat i know that much

  • if your'e using creatine then yes because all it does for u is give u water weight, but either way if u stop for a year chances are that ur gonna get smaller

  • truthfully if you keep a good diet, you shouldnt loose that much. you only gain fat if you dont have a healthy lifestyle anyway. and your body willtry to get to where it naturally sits anyway. some people are have more fat on them than others

  • No you don't need to worry about losing your gains. ( you will only lose your gains if you are taking NO or Anabolic Steroids.) with Creatine there is water retention within the muscles but if you take kre alkalyn ( creatine buffered at higher PH levels.) there's no water retention so you won't have to worry about losing your newly obtained size.

  • I'm impressed! I've been stuck at a bench of 245 for about 6 months and I train my ass off. I know that you can't tell me exactly what to do to get out of my slump but do you have any suggestions? Do you think that a wide/narrow grip matters at all? I'm some where in the middle and I notice that most power lifters use a wide grip. Some advice would be well appreciated. Good lifting brotha..

  • YESS!!!! haveing a wide or narrow gap matters alot it changes the muscles being used.

  • wide grip works out your chests. and close grip works out tricepts. my bench has went up 45lbs so far since i changed from close to wide. try it it should work. but you do need to work both every once and a while.

  • That guy can say whatever he wants about your training, but when it all comes down to it, he should look at your 474 RAW with a pause. There's no questioning that lift and it's almost as heavy as your 495 training video. Keep up the good lifting man, I gotta catch up to you!

  • Wow, you are one strong dude. I noticed that you have an educated spotter using the alternated grip during the spot. So often I see poor technique from the spotter and at those loads, you can't be fooling around on the back end. Good lifting, stay up.

  • Strong lift! Kudos on busting out 495, but the lift isn't legal. You have good control fo the weight until you are about 3 inches from your chest, then you allow the weight to accelerate, hit your chest, and bounce back up. Take your time, get your pause, and then explode up. You'll wind up benching even heavier!
